The scene of Daniel being interviewed by the news channel anchorman personally destroyed me because it reminded me a lot of the many interviews Anne Rice did between the 90’s and the late 00’s where the interviewer condescendingly talked about her passion for writing supernatural/preternatural characters, questioned the philosophical views she weaved into her novels, mocked her eccentricities and sometimes just took direct digs at her person. Being an Anne Rice fan, that scene hit the hardest.
For some reason, it reminded me of that interview with Matt Lauer and Will Ferrell's Dr. Marshall in The Land of the Lost. "Matt Lauer Can S--k It, by Dr. Rick Marshall."
I wasn't a fan when Anne was alive, giving these interviews (i was too young), but when I saw that scene I was instantly reminded of her. I may not have been there before, but knowing how many people talk about her, even now, and bash her for all this exact reasons... that scene is meant to emmulate that very real experience of Anne's life as an author. I have no doubts about it.
I cried my eyes out when Lestate and Louis fell into each other's arms. I love this series. I love the actors. Brilliant work and a terrific interpretation of the books. Respect and thanks to everyone who worked on the series. At first I had big doubts, and yes, also because the setting was changed a bit. But all those doubts turned to ashes and now I only feel love.
@JadyLester It was just beautiful. The whole scenery, the setting and the moment. And by Amel, I'm longing to see Akasha. Pls I need not just need Season 3. Gimme Season 4 too.
So Armand settled for Louis since he didn’t have his coven anymore after saying he wanted him more than anything in the world and Louis only stayed with Armand out of spite for 77 years. WTF is wrong with these Vampires 😭🤣
Well, Armand has so much PTSD he forgot his childhood and how to paint. I assume he is very messed up from his abusive past. And he is a gremlin anyway.
I was of the thinking that the magnolia tree was Armand's, as he made a mention of taking a cutting when he supposedly left the coven for Louis. So it being missing from Louis' meditation spot is kind of just a visualization of how Armand is no longer a part of his life and currently manipulating his thoughts. Louis now surrounds himself with the things Armand would have rather he forget.
Armand/Rashid also mentions in season 1 that the interior designer forced Louis to have the tree in there to keep him connected to nature, and I've always speculated that the interior designer was Armand all along, and he was the one who insisted on the tree.
@@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 So did I, at first. I see pink petals, I think cherry blossoms. Imagine my embarrassment when I got an eyeful of the magnolia tree in my backyard and literally went "oh yeah..." out loud. 😅
Oh, I must say that I immediately thought of you the second Daniel pointed out the thing about Louis saying Lestat spoke to him telepathically back in season one. I would say I'm going to miss the reviews, but that implies I'm not going to go back and rewatch them as I already do. I love your videos, and it's not like you blink out of existence when the season ends.❤
@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 Once a transformation is complete, a maker can no longer hear their fledgling's thoughts, and the fledgling can not hear their maker's. However, there seems to be a link or cord between them, where they can feel each other and their emotions-as Lestat said in season 1 and Madeleine and Louis talked about in episode 6.
if there was no torture/coercion involved in getting lestat to participate in the trial, i’m imagining it means he went there knowing his options were save louis or save claudia since that power seems to take a lot out of him, and he chose louis. (which i don’t know that it was really a hard decision, at least at the time.) and that choice is something he’s going to have to live with forever. it’s something he very clearly feels guilty about, even if at the same time he doesn’t regret saving louis. like it’s definitely an interesting choice and idk how i feel about it.
If he really wanted to save Louis and Claudia both - he could reveal himself to Louis and plot against the coven. But he was ok with Claudia death. At least untill he actually saw the process. He is that chaotic.
Maven: Hands down the premiere vampire film/TV show reactor on the internet. Many imitators, but no equals.Happy for a third season primarily to see the Maven do her reactor thing.
a couple of things i don't get that weren't explained: why does the paris coven ever accept claudia when it's clear she's a child from the beginning? they suddenly care when it's convenient for the plot, but they initially welcome her with open arms, and she stays with the coven for years. if it was armand's intention for the paris coven to kill louis, why does he then enter a relationship with louis that lasts up until the present day? i really enjoy this show, and i enjoyed this season (i was literally screeching and bouncing on my bed during the last louis and lestat scene), but i do feel the motivations for the characters were quite muddy at points. i shouldn't be having a hard time understanding why characters are doing things, or feeling like a character is behaving inconsistently, not to mention vampire powers that come and go, as needed. the explanation of "this isn't really how it happened" doesn't resolve this issue for me. anyway, you probably won't see this, but thanks, maven, for your super informative and interesting recaps! can't wait until season 3.
49:08 Yes! This has been bothering me since yesterday! “We have something special prepared for you.” I need to know what the heck they were planning before everything fell apart!
@@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 That’s what I was thinking, that maybe they were going to offer it to him again-but then he’d already said how bleakly he viewed the idea of outliving his loved ones, so I couldn’t see him saying yes. I hope whenever season 3 drops that we find out exactly what happened between him and Armand, both in the past (I have to believe they have a past) and in the present after Louis walked out.
@@phantasmbunnyDaniel does not seem too unhappy about being immortal. I think he rejected the idea out of spite. He was really pissed off by the fact that he is old and ill in episode 1.
Now we know why Lestat was so out of it when he was standing before they revealed the sun. He saved Louis. I knew he had to have done something, he was wobbling that whole time!
Finale made cry. I truly Adore the cast and the show ❤Also thank you very much for these long but interesting videos. I really appreciate a true fan talking about the book and the show at the same time.
I like to think Louis lingered for a few nights in New Orleans to visit with Lestat. Hunting, seeing how things have changed, reminiscing about the past before heading back to Dubai. They may not be together but they deeply love each other and have come to terms with their past and with Claudia's ghost. Also, love the nod to Lestat's upcoming music career. "Im going on tour" 😮
My theory about why Armand never even try to intervine with the trial or the coven is that it was not really a retcon on his powers but a change in his motivation. Now if Armand actually wrote the play then it’s save to assume he wrote all the emo bits about the transcendence vampire loneliness. Perhaps we are not meant to understand that as something all vampires experience but something Armand fears. Basically he’s afraid of abandonment and being alone more than anything else. He probably really does love Louis… however he fears his heart will always belong to Lestat and he KNOWS Lestat is alive. So from his perspective is just a matter of time before Louis abandons him, and when that happens is going to be the most painful heartbreak yet… however the coven… well they’ve been loyal so far and he can keep them in check… is not love like with Louis but it is safer. So what happens when the coven wants to deal with Louis and Claudia? Well now he has to pick, and he’s peaking safety So he performs the trial in the most theatrical way possible to gain the coven’s trust… even if it hurts him to do so Then the bit about doing all the chores for the coven can still be true, he could absolutely kill them all with just a thought… but then he will be alone again and he betrayed Louis for nothing. And Santiago probably put that much together. However on day the guilt is simply too much and he frees Louis and once he’s out… he ACTUALLY picks him. Who cares that is all base on a lie? He can keep on the lie forever if it means he will be loved. And when the cracks of that lie start to form?.. well with his memory manipulation abilities they are easy enough to patch up
I think you are right. But instead of guilt, I believe that Armand was betrayed by Santiago. They made a deal to kill Claudia and Louis in the most treatical way possible, so Armand can lead the coven again. But after all the years beggin to him to put the vampires in the first place, Santiago is over with Armand and greedy with the power he had experienced. The coven beat Armand, and throw him from the top of the stairs. Now he is humilliated and anger, he is planning to get revenge of the coven, so he frees Louis, who Lestat have saved, and let him wandering in Paris. Knowing the hatred between Santiago and Louis, once he get in the lead of the coven again and kicked Santiago out, Louis maybe have killed him. All of that without Armand bothering to make the dirt job.
@@ruthmellodasilva348 I think that’s a really good train of thought. With guilt he probably would have acted sooner But finally realizing that he had done all that and the Coven had deserted him anyway? I can definitely see that.
I just wanted to thank you for your very insightful, entertaining, informative and engaging reviews of this show. After every episode, yours was the opinion I wanted to hear the most and you’ve never disappointed. Bravo to your wonderful work!
I am completely and absolutely convinced that devil minion is still happening. The whole “Armand turnt me out of spite” is a lie that’s so transparently nonsensical. I think Daniel IS going to interview Lestat for next season BUT this time Daniel isn’t going to be the one trying to uncover the truths within the lies. After all is not like Lestat to lie to Daniel or to repress the hard truths like Louis… so where is the tension in the interview going to come from? Well I think Lestat will immediately be able to tell Daniel is lying about Armand and will interview him right back. Thus we’ll get flashbacks to Daniel and Armand having their smaller devil minion arc… possibly in the 70s too???
Hope you are right. But I think that ark might be in 2020s. Some time have passed between interview and publishing of the book. So maybe Armand stalked Daniel for some time? Louis said "don't hurt him". He did not say "don't hunt him and scare him". So i imagine this might happen. And end with Armand turning Daniel. I really did not feel any anger or hatred from Daniel towards Armand. He seems cool.
I mean.... vampires are complex people, it could have been both spite and other things, all at once(it could technically even have been because of spite because they had more history together than Daniel remembered and even though Daniel doesn't remember it Daniel still turned on / betrayed Armand by ruining everything Armand had going with Louis); [similarly ]there could be mixed feelings present, including some bitterness or resentment present, even if there is no absolute all-out hate because ultimately Daniel doesn't really mind being a vampire in the end even if how it happened was a bit of a prick move. But I also do wonder exactly how much time elapsed or not, both between when Louis left and when Daniel was turned as well as between when Daniel was turned and/or when Daniel first published the IWTV book and when Daniel did that tv interview appearance thing at the end. They could play it like there is or has already been more that happened than we know, or they could maybe say Daniel/Armand is something that will happen later on now after he's already been made a vampire, or they might be skipping it completely. It's anyone's guess, for now.
no gonna lie the twists at the end with Armand had me going "no f*cking way" with a big smile on my face, and the exchange in New Orleans had me close to tears when they were finally honest and direct with each other. Lestat's breakdown about Claudia's death hit me hard. Excellent acting
Oh i adore you! I just jumped on the IWTV youtube train recently and you are the first true reader of the books, who is both knowledgeable and animated i have found after watching so many others! Thank you for making these videos! ❤
I am hoping Daniel and Louis become better friends and I was happy that Louis and Lestat that reunited and talked about Claudia but I’m hoping Claudia comes back as a ghost or as a dream because I do wanna her to find peace i’m also happy that they’re gonna have season three so the story continue 😊
When he says “I have the blood of Akasha in me.” He then seems to turn to Louis and say, He doesn’t know who that is”… to me implying that Armand doesn’t know, which makes him lesser than.
@@MavenoftheEventide Sam Reid mentioned that originally in season 1, while they were up in the sky, Lestat told Louis who he'd drunk from. (Autumn Brown's talk with Sam Reid, around the 39 minute mark). So I guess Louis knows about Akasha but they overlooked we didn't get to see that. Another thing to add to the season 3 fix-it list.
They cut that part out of the episode because they decided they didn't want Louis to know about her after all. So this way he can find out through Lestat's book/interview and songs in Season 3 instead.
I love your breakdowns of the episodes of interview with the vampire. ❤ I am going to miss these videos since season is over. Already excited for season 3! I have loved the first 2 seasons and now I am finally reading the vampire chronicles books. 📚 ☺️
Omgeee I hate that I found this channel at the end of the season! You are hilarious and very entertaining! I enjoyed the review as much as I hv enjoyed this series! I am totally a new Subscriber! Thank you! ❤
Maven, you are DA GOAT. I don't think I truly appreciated you in S1 but it is as clear as day now how much you care about these characters. Your breadth of knowledge about the Anne Rice universe is both expansive and impressive and as someone who ADORED S1 but has had a lot of issues with the character/narrative inconsistencies in S2, your videos have been a lifeline.
I’m a little bit peeved that they gave one of Lestat’s character beats to Louis. If all the vampires are upset with Louis for revealing them to the world, what are they going to be upset with Lestat about when he’s a rock star? Or will that even matter, since Sam is apparently Deadmau5? Also, “I own the night” was such a strange choice when “Come to me” was RIGHT THERE.
Thank you for these incredible recaps, I have loved dissecting all the details as I read the books for the first time and then eagerly coming to your reviews to see even more background on what the average viewer missed! 1:18:45 maaaaaaybe Lestat is not in Dubai because he is currently on his world tour? Louis the rockstar boyfriend is taking some time at home before he visits Lestat on the road? If we don't get a backstage post rock performance steamy Loustat scene in S3, I will riot! 😭
maven thank you so much for these videos, i love them so much!!! you pick up on every small detail, im sure that even if i read the books, i wouldnt have the same perception! thank you for anne ricing the house down boots. i am consumed by these vampires now :)
As always, another great review. My biggest fear for The Vampire Lestat is they will mess up the music. For all it's faults the 2002' film Queen of the Dammed had a fantastic soundtrack. That was also 22 years ago, so the musical style has changed, what kind of musician would they make Lestat now?
@@jacknapier8181 an obscure alternative is J.D. Fortune. He competed to become the replacement singer for INXS on Rock Star: INXS in 2005. J.D. had that energy and range. His rendition of Creep by Radiohead really stood out.
@@Elinye I like Hozier. I don't know if their style is too singular. That is why I like the variety that was brought to the vocals with all the contributors with the QotD artists. It's too bad Chris Cornell is no longer with us. Also, David Bowie is another epic start with a crazy sort of range of styles, but maybe too glam for our boy Lestat.
I kinda of view Daniel only asking one clarifying question about inconsistency as mostly a way to call into question what was real. Maybe we’re supposed to be left confused and questioning what was true to set up for Lestat’s season?
Ah, my nights are empty now that the show and these recaps are over (for now yaaay). I must say, Sam Reid did such an amazing job portraying the first time we see the real Lestat in subtly different ways, one of which being he feels more...real. Less of this towering figure like he is in Armand and Louis' recollections and more complex, even slightly softer (obviously the passage of time is part of that as well), especially with Louis. The reconciliation between them is one of my favorite scenes in the show (the part where he cries that Louis hurt himself hit especially hard).
Armand could be petty and spiteful in the books. I think his plan was to destroy two more of Lestat's fledgelings in the theatre that Lestat built and Lestat has to watch and participate. It is him getting back at Lestat for rejecting him.
Yaaaaasss! My Dark Queen!! Omg!! Daniel is an immortal!! An the Brat Prince said AKASHA!!! HE YESS! We are getting the concert an the Twins!!! Hopefully!!😂😂😂
I want the sliced out diary pages!!! Not the gross ones that Louis took out so Claudia wasn't exploited but the ones Armand cut out!! He says in the beginning of the season he'll have Rashid get them and we never get them!!!!!!! GIVE THEM TO ME!
I was waiting for your review and I am so happy it came early. In regards to the ending with Louis being back in Dubai and appearing to be seperated from Lestat. I am hoping that Louis making money off artists instead of becoming a photographer in Paris, was not just telling us how he is independently wealthy in present day. But also foreshadows him possibly financing Lestat's tour or being his business manager. That way they can still be in contact without immediately jumping back into a relationship.
The music that we heard when Louis was pouring the gasoline sounded like it was in a 70s movie. I softly gasped twice when it was learned that Lestat saved Louis.
I really do love this adaption that has been created and Elisa's breakdowns. I wanted to know what Elisa and the community think about the pitfall created by not having Lestat be super weakened by his injuries at the trial? What I mean is, in the books, Lestat was pretty much powerless to stop the theater coven from destroying Cladia or Louis. He was still so weakened from being both drained of blood and almost being burnt to a cinder. It makes sense that he is incapable of interceding with the coven on other of Claudia's or Louis' behalf as he does not have the power to do so. The issue that now arises is he is seemingly at full strength during the trial as evidenced by his telling Louis and Armand to take a hike when Louis threatens to kill him, basically telling them both he is not willing to be destroyed and not in the mood for any altercation, meaning, I will not hold back killing either or both of you if your provoke me. At this point, Lestat has Magnus' blood, Marius and Akasha's. I get it that Armand beat Lestat when they first met because Lestat was a brand-new vampire and had no idea how to use his powers, but now he is significantly more powerful than either of them, was certainly much more powerful than Louis as was shown in both episode 1/5 and 2/7. My question is this, couldn't Lestat just have destroyed the entire theater coven? He was rehearsing the play with them and knew what they wanted to do, so couldn't he have made up his mind to destroy them to prevent Claudia's death? It didn't seem like he was down for it. I get teasing them with the prospect of destruction for the harm caused them. I suppose Claudia had it coming as she really wanted Lestat dead but Louis prevented her from torching Lestat. These changes seemingly subtle, have some real downstream effects on the charter motivations.
Any plans of possibly doing reviews of the Mayfair Witches series? I know its a bit off brand, but I'm insatiable, and would want more of your insights and humor 😊
After watching these two seasons, I've been on a vampire kick and found something quite funny. The actor who plays Daniel also played a similar role in the third Blade movie! There is a scene where he is being interviewed on his thoughts on Blade. Within the movie, Blade has just been outed for hunting people in the media. It's a great Easter egg, seeing this actor play in two great vampire franchises as a similar-cast character.
Sooooooooo... When you return from vacation, what's the chance of a re-visit of the 90's Interview With the Vampire movie in this same book comparison fashion? Maybe even a head to head comparison between the the movie and the series just for giggles? Please? 🥺
This finale was SO GOOD! The Armand Director reveal and especially the final Louis and Lestat scene in thd present day were amazing and great pay off!! Can't wait to see Lestat tell his story in Season 3!! I love that this series is going so much further into each vampire's back story.
I think the magnolia tree being removed is a way for him to disconnect from Armand. Armand likely planted that tree from the cutting he took with him in Paris.
13:18 - Given the trial (which he directed) already told us that Lestat slept for '100 years' I think Armand is being... dramatic, at best, about worrying for Louis' starvation. I think he has an entire narrative he's trying to put across about how he had to endure listening to him suffer, and listen to him dying - so he could elaborate on his own helplessness probably? 30:00 - I think the insinuation is just simply that they 'sleep like the dead' - like they postpone the death sleep idea until they're actually falling asleep and then it kicks in. Until they're burning to death I suppose. Fight or flight is still a concept for the undead. lol. Which is...wonky, but I get it. 42:10 - The pure derision and sardonic dramatique in his voice anytime Lestat says anything about 'the great laws' makes it very clear, to me at least, that he's mocking Armand and this is not his reason at all.
So where were the vampire actors when the fire hit? It was dark outside but they weren’t in their coffins, right? Weren’t they onstage with Armand? I was very confused by this.
@@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 The fire Louis sets? He waits until after curfew where most are in their coffins, ergo why he told Armand not to be there at curfew (which I presume is an hour or two before sunrise). The few who aren't or who get up to try to fight him he takes out with the machete or, like with Celeste and Estelle, he sabotaged their bikes so they couldn't make a get away without exploding.
I personally interpreted the scene where Daniel's eye color changes as a nod to the show's focus on storytelling and the truth. It's obvious during the news segment that he's different, but it's not until the glasses are removed that for us the audience that layer of truth is stripped away. He's a vampire. He has been this whole chunk of the story. So I didn't take it as a literal power, but more as the show telling us to go back again. Recontextualize the scene. And then the color to extra beat people over the head as to who the 'maker' he refers to is.
We know there had to be some time between hurricane with Lestat - and interview with Deniel. Danny had to write and publish the book. But Louis is apologising like they talk for the first time since Daniel became a vampire. So I think Armand made him just recently. I think he stalked Daniel for a year or so, and only then made him a vampire. Also, Daniel does not seem unhappy about being immortal. I think the only true resentment he feels is "You're an asshole - why didn't you make me immortal while i was young?"
can someone explain why it is armand was perfectly willing to let louis die? wasn't the point of the trial for armand to separate claudia from louis so that armand could have him all to himself?
@@jamiedoe6822 thank you for the response! If this is true, Is armand delusional? How could lestat be an option to him if lestat is fully aware of the role armand played in the play?
I hope the 3th season will have as talented supporting cast as this one had. I loved Santiago and the actor in the BTS for this episode was so adorable! And maybe we don't see Lestat because he in on that tour he mantioned? And honestly, I didn't expect they would really make Daniel a vampire. I would love to see (in the next season) Armand trying to order Vampniel to do something. With no psychic powers over him Daniel will rip him a new one just by talking, being cool as a cucumber while Armand has a fit of hysterics right next to him. I loved Old Maniel and I think Old Vampniel has a potential to be a really badass character.
28:26 This was so confusing to me. I did not even know if the vampire coven was “in coffin” or onstage during curfew with Armand. What time was it? So, they can wake up anyway? Why is Louis up? I find this very sloppy writing. Yup, also the masturbating with ashes? What? So unnecessary. I don’t think Rice would approve.
Maven you have been a delight to watch when season 3 premieres hopefully summer/fall 2025 please do a book to screen adaptation analysis of the Vampire Lestat.
1:14:45 One of my criticisms of the show in general in telling, not showing. I would have liked to have seen Armand bite Daniel. I thought Louis made him. Confusing. Having Daniel and Armand have a relationship prior to the TV promotion would be amusing. 1:16:00 I thought they would just call the show “The Vampire Lestat Part One” for season 3. If Daniel is a vampire, he could also interview himself! Or have a vampire reality show! :)
It is an 'interview' after all. Everyone will say 'Show not tell!' and it just stood it's ground firmly against the flow by being what it is - _a telling_ from S1E1 to S2E8. It's what makes it quite unique. It just told and told and told, and then, dissected itself by asking 'would you believe all this telling?'
Omg, I havent noticed about the change of clothing! something about that scne was scratching my brain, it was probably that! It furthers my opinion in that we are just watching all of this in Louis' pov. To me that clothing change means that Louis is omiting things. To us and maybe, bc he's not longer telling his stoy to Daniel, to himself. He's self-editing again. Also! Thank you so, so much for these. I just found you, and I'm going to watch all your previous videos about the VC and the show. As a fan of the books first, your content makes me feel less alone in the hyperfixation lol. Have a nice day!
Favorite season 2 love every episode and now really can't wait for season 3 here comes TVL ❤ lestat is coming out as rock star and Louie and Lestat reunited yes but important when Lestat mentioned Akasha I immediately got chills "shes coming"
Maven. I will miss your wonderful reviews. I always looked forward to them after an episode. Please let us know if you hear about a release date for season #3.
bogosian's take on molloy has forcibly reminded me of anthony bourdain the whole time, but with his transformation at the end, he became almost an exact copy. not saying that's a good or bad thing, necessarily, but i did find it distracting at points.
Glad to have these recaps and even more so that we have a season 3 on the horizon! Are you going to do an overview on Rockstar Lestat as he is in the books? Or have you already?? I'm very curious about how they might contrast for the show.
I did an in depth video on The Vampire Lestat book: th-cam.com/video/cadPQZgw2eM/w-d-xo.html And sever years ago, a vide on the Queen of the Damned movie: th-cam.com/video/XkxvpUiehvQ/w-d-xo.html In both of which, I discuss Rockstar Lestat 😁
First of all, your videos for each episode literally carried me throughout the season! Other than the episode releases themselves I was always the most excited for your own observations haha, genuinely thank you so much!!! That said, we still don't know what's on the missing pages of Claudia's diaries, right? Did I just forget when it was mentioned?
I read somewhere that AR had in an earlier version of TVL, that after the 1973 interview, Daniel went to NOLA but found Lestat instead of Armand. He and a female character convince Lestat to be interviewed, probably after Daniel plays the tapes for him. I could see this as being the springboard of Season 3, with Daniel becoming more like the David Talbot character of the later books, chronicling the lives of other vampires. He could be doing this while Lestat is recording and making music videos with the band, in the background framing story. Getting so excited for season three.
maybe the writers did try to touch on the 'commited to coffin' when Louis was talking about Claudia inability to dream. Maybe lol! actually dreaming proves against the theory
Near the end you mention the removal of the Magnolia tree. I'm sure you are right about the Louisiana connection in terms of what the show's creators were thinking. But that particular tree was not the one that is the state flower of Louisiana. Magnolia grandiflora is the state flower. It is known as the Southern Magnolia, with thick glossy, evergreen leaves and a big white flower. Their plant was one of the deciduous types like Magnolia x soulangeana which bloom before the leaves appear.
In the book, he's supposed to be Lestat's latest fledgling. He keeps making fledglings to try to take care of him, but they all keep leaving him. But that was only what Louis told Daniel. Lestat reveals in TVL that that whole scene never happened and that modern vampire never existed. Louis made it all up.
Great channel big fan i dont understand what happens to the vampires that are banished? do they eventually die? i mean lestat lasted 100 years so what is difference being in the tomb? or do they go crazy and die?
@@MayLovesFountainPens a twist that..... i mean.... was for no reason other than the twist??? If that's true it's lame.... I'm still watching but....... the series has been around forever. They had time to sorta plan it out.
@@jva2722 I mean the thing about Lestat dropping Louis was also because of a twist and because 'it was a cool way to show the Cloud Gift' according to the writer of that episode. Then they had to write around it. They don't plan anything, they just throw things and see if it is sticks, it seems.
I’m amazed at your hard work and thorough evaluation of the books verses the movie. I love the movie but I’m torn as I loved Anne rices series so very much! I can see if you have read the books or the older movies you wouldn’t notice the changes lol! But I love it anyway! Testament to the fine writing based upon a geniuses work! I love your reviews the best!! ❤
Thank goodness season 3 is coming i cant wait to see rockstar lestat.i haven't watched a television show in forever but this got me to watch iwtv! Ive been such a big fan of the books and i like how this keeps me on my toes and get to see characters i love in new but faniliar situations. I honestly think it was so smart aging armand up. Im kinda obsessed with how theyve made him turn molloy. Everyone thinks it was out of pettiness but i think daniel was the only person to ever see armand for he was. There is something about the transformation after the fact armand tortured him back in the 70s.
I have a pet theory but of course it can just be me having devil's minion brain rot. Louis says Daniel was burdened out of spite, but we don't know for sure why Armand did it. I can believe that Louis believes it was out of spite. But I can also believe Armand did it out of some form of desire. Neither he nor Louis seemed all that happy in their relationship. In the 70s when Armand is interrogating young Daniel's memories, every piece of information he brings up- "a splinter of coldness in you; is that what makes you fascinating?" etc. is a trait that Armand shares. I think in future seasons we're going to find out that Armand and younger Daniel had a much more extensive relationship than Daniel can remember and it's possible Louis never knew of it. I also find it strange for Raglan to warn Daniel to worry more about Louis harming him, but it's entirely possible it was less "be afraid of Louis" and more "don't be afraid of Armand, he's probably not going to hurt you." Both of them (Louis and Armand) have their breaking points but even when Armand snaps he's calculated about it. Louis is more reckless when he snaps, like when he attacks Daniel in the past. For all we know, Armand already has some twisted interest in Daniel and the Talamasca might be aware of this. Considering Armand suspects older Daniel still has that same boy they met in SF those years ago inside, and that they might draw him back out? If Armand had nothing left- no coven, no Louis, but he still has a chance at holding onto that Fascinating Boy...? I D K but I can't wait to see where this show goes in the future. I love that awful, pathetic gremlin!!
I’m going to miss these recaps as much as I’m going to miss the show. Can’t wait for season 3!
Same lol I just joined her patreon so I can watch more videos lol
I cried my eyes out when Lestate and Louis fell into each other's arms. I love this series. I love the actors. Brilliant work and a terrific interpretation of the books. Respect and thanks to everyone who worked on the series. At first I had big doubts, and yes, also because the setting was changed a bit. But all those doubts turned to ashes and now I only feel love.
the reconciliation we never got! i loved it so much. And Louis coming into his own.
@JadyLester It was just beautiful. The whole scenery, the setting and the moment.
And by Amel, I'm longing to see Akasha. Pls I need not just need Season 3. Gimme Season 4 too.
Every time they call Armand a gremlin, it feels like a shoutout to you. 😂
Same. Literally every time the word "gremlin" was uttered I had Mavens voice saying "but he's OUR sewer gremlin" in my head.
Perfect Danielesque Synopsis!
It's all so human 😂
It's a telenovela
Eternal damnation might mess with you lol
@@MavenoftheEventideI thought it was a cherry blossom tree.
How does the telepathy work on the show? I am still confused. Masters cannot talk to their fledglings?
It’s really odd with the powers the show gives him that he didn’t try to save Claudia. He didn’t even attempt. :(
No doubt the Gremlin threatened their lives when he called Lestat. Starting to belive he showed up in Paris under complete duress.
The thing is that we don’t know if they made him go though because remember that the story is being told from Louis’s pov not Lestat’s
If he really wanted to save Louis and Claudia both - he could reveal himself to Louis and plot against the coven. But he was ok with Claudia death. At least untill he actually saw the process. He is that chaotic.

Absolutely, I agree. ❤❤❤
a couple of things i don't get that weren't explained:
why does the paris coven ever accept claudia when it's clear she's a child from the beginning? they suddenly care when it's convenient for the plot, but they initially welcome her with open arms, and she stays with the coven for years.
if it was armand's intention for the paris coven to kill louis, why does he then enter a relationship with louis that lasts up until the present day?
i really enjoy this show, and i enjoyed this season (i was literally screeching and bouncing on my bed during the last louis and lestat scene), but i do feel the motivations for the characters were quite muddy at points. i shouldn't be having a hard time understanding why characters are doing things, or feeling like a character is behaving inconsistently, not to mention vampire powers that come and go, as needed. the explanation of "this isn't really how it happened" doesn't resolve this issue for me.
anyway, you probably won't see this, but thanks, maven, for your super informative and interesting recaps! can't wait until season 3.
49:08 Yes! This has been bothering me since yesterday! “We have something special prepared for you.” I need to know what the heck they were planning before everything fell apart!
Wasn’t it vampirism? :)
@@wildmarjoramdieselpunk6396 That’s what I was thinking, that maybe they were going to offer it to him again-but then he’d already said how bleakly he viewed the idea of outliving his loved ones, so I couldn’t see him saying yes. I thought Louis was gonna offer Daniel the Vampire gift again :) That, or I thought they were planning to drink from him?
Think they were going to turn him.

My head cannon is that Lestat is busy getting ready to go on tour so Louis is at the penthouse waiting for Lestat to get home from practice.
Omg I thought so too ,I need lestat to be like "honey I'm home " at the start of season three.
So happy I clicked so fast and so excited love watching your videos.
Well now he has to pick, and he’s peaking safety
So he performs the trial in the most theatrical way possible to gain the coven’s trust… even if it hurts him to do so
Then the bit about doing all the chores for the coven can still be true, he could absolutely kill them all with just a thought… but then he will be alone again and he betrayed Louis for nothing.
Or maybe Armand is lying about all, and living his best live by the time😂. I don't have the clue after all.
@@ruthmellodasilva348 I think that’s a really good train of thought. With guilt he probably would have acted sooner
But finally realizing that he had done all that and the Coven had deserted him anyway?
I can definitely see that.
Armand plotted everything from start to finish.
The scene with Louis and Claudia in this episode almost broke me. Sam and Jacob did SUCH a good job in this season (as they did in the last season).
I just wanted to thank you for your very insightful, entertaining, informative and engaging reviews of this show. After every episode, yours was the opinion I wanted to hear the most and you’ve never disappointed. Bravo to your wonderful work!

🤣🤪🤣

Armand: Maybe I will take up painting now that everyone hates me.
Dream Claudia is a major character in the Tale of the Body Thief book, so I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her when the show gets to that plot!

When he says “I have the blood of Akasha in me.” He then seems to turn to Louis and say, He doesn’t know who that is”… to me implying that Armand doesn’t know, which makes him lesser than.
I think he means that Louis is the one who doesn’t know
@@MavenoftheEventide Sam Reid mentioned that originally in season 1, while they were up in the sky, Lestat told Louis who he'd drunk from.
I love your reviews, they always make me feel even more close and passionate about this universe.
Louis unleashed his inner Blade today. He even looked like the original 70’s version, minus the Afro when he killed those vampires.

Or else Sam is half of Daft Punk. :) At least Louis didn’t say “Turn
Off The Dark”.
Lestat pens his autobiography to accompany his music videos and rock concert. He goes deeper into vampire history including “Those Who Must Be Kept”
TRUE! The "Come to me" line is by far the best line they could have used, sad they didn't!
I felt " I own the night" went hard asf tbh. Hyped me up.

My biggest fear for The Vampire Lestat is they will mess up the music. For all it's faults the 2002' film Queen of the Dammed had a fantastic soundtrack. That was also 22 years ago, so the musical style has changed, what kind of musician would they make Lestat now?
To be honest, I'm kinda hoping he'll be some kind of Adam Lambert wannabe🤞
I’m hoping for a Hozier-type
@@jacknapier8181 an obscure alternative is J.D. Fortune. He competed to become the replacement singer for INXS on Rock Star: INXS in 2005. J.D. had that energy and range. His rendition of Creep by Radiohead really stood out.

@@Elinye Tha'd be cool too! 😃
I kinda of view Daniel only asking one clarifying question about inconsistency as mostly a way to call into question what was real. Maybe we’re supposed to be left confused and questioning what was true to set up for Lestat’s season?
I think so too. I learned to accept we are not getting the objective events
love the commitment to the "machinations" bit
And how he said it A-kAH-SHAh!!!
I was hollering 😂🎉
I want the sliced out diary pages!!! Not the gross ones that Louis took out so Claudia wasn't exploited but the ones Armand cut out!! He says in the beginning of the season he'll have Rashid get them and we never get them!!!!!!! GIVE THEM TO ME!
Brava! So many people loved Armand before this show, myself included but now we will get to see him in his complete evil gremlin self.
If this series taught me anything its ask follow up questions and not just take the surface level. The devil and Armand are in the details.
The gremlin is in the details?
Pleaseee release the Assad and Reid footage. Love your reactions !!!
It seems like the actors on this show are really approachable.
The only reason I want this show to go on is because of your analysis.... Have a great vacation!! Thanx!!!
We have been greenlit for season three and the show runner said even though The Vampire Lestat book doesn’t really have Louis, the show will.
Sooooooooo...
When you return from vacation, what's the chance of a re-visit of the 90's Interview With the Vampire movie in this same book comparison fashion? Maybe even a head to head comparison between the the movie and the series just for giggles?
Please? 🥺
That blue velvet dress looks lovely on you, Maven!
This finale was SO GOOD! The Armand Director reveal and especially the final Louis and Lestat scene in thd present day were amazing and great pay off!!
Can't wait to see Lestat tell his story in Season 3!! I love that this series is going so much further into each vampire's back story.
The New Orleans scene gives me Louis seeking lestat out before the big concert vibes.
I can’t believe this season has come to an end. I couldn’t have watched it without your videos guiding me along the way. Thank you so much. ❤️🖤🩸🧛🏾♀️

Ben Daniels as Santiago was definitely one of this Season's MVPs.
I just seen they renewed for season 3 I’m so happy

Omg, I havent noticed about the change of clothing! something about that scne was scratching my brain, it was probably that! It furthers my opinion in that we are just watching all of this in Louis' pov. To me that clothing change means that Louis is omiting things. "And every bone on my body broke within its thin case of preternatural skin."
Even the little ones? In the ears? Ouch.
bogosian's take on molloy has forcibly reminded me of anthony bourdain the whole time, but with his transformation at the end, he became almost an exact copy. not saying that's a good or bad thing, necessarily, but i did find it distracting at points.
Why would Louis feel so invincible? Unless, he got an infusion of even more powerful blood? From whom though??!!
I love your dress (shirt?) by the way!! I’ve loved your reviews throughout the season!! Can’t wait to hear more from *you
Glad to have these recaps and even more so that we have a season 3 on the horizon! Are you going to do an overview on Rockstar Lestat as he is in the books? Or have you already?? I'm very curious about how they might contrast for the show.
I did an in depth video on The Vampire Lestat book: th-cam.com/video/cadPQZgw2eM/w-d-xo.html
And sever years ago, a vide on the Queen of the Damned movie: th-cam.com/video/XkxvpUiehvQ/w-d-xo.html
In both of which, I discuss Rockstar Lestat 😁
First of all, your videos for each episode literally carried me throughout the season! Other than the episode releases themselves I was always the most excited for your own observations haha, genuinely thank you so much!!! That said, we still don't know what's on the missing pages of Claudia's diaries, right? Did I just forget when it was mentioned?
Armand gave you brain scramblies.
1:03:00 I thought Lestat had a wrapped up keyboard to protect it from the hurricane. Low light problems. :)
maybe the writers did try to touch on the 'commited to coffin' when Louis was talking about Claudia inability to dream. Maybe lol! actually dreaming proves against the theory
The Santiago, Francis, chase vengence part was giving Deadpool.
Okay but in the 1970’s Lestat does think Louis is dead. They just switched sole scenes around
Who was the modem/modern vampire? 4:23
I would love to see you interview the cast
Great channel big fan i dont understand what happens to the vampires that are banished? do they eventually die? i mean lestat lasted 100 years so what is difference being in the tomb? or do they go crazy and die?
Ok, can someone pls explain to me what the possible point of Armand pretending to be Rashid was?
Other than a twist for book readers anyway.....
It was just a twist, honestly.
Did you happen to see the “Show Me More Season 2” one hour extra on IWTV on AMC?
Do we have a iwtv end of season mourning support group coz I need to let all my grief out before season 3
