      he PS ViTA has great battery life compared to the switch, the specs for its time are amazing and still hold up for some games today. I like how you can play VITA, PSP, PS1 and mini games. You also can connect to PS3 or PS4 and use your console streaming.

      The Switch is basically what the Vita SHOULD have been. They used a C type for charging so you can buy those anywhere and Micro SD cards that you can also buy anywhere. That alone is worth the price of purchase so you didn't have to spend extra on things that ONLY they can make

      Nintendo has always defined the handheld market and unfortunately pricing matters. There was no competitor to the GBA so we all had one, the PSP existed but cost $100 more than the DS back in 2005), the Vita was also $250 but Nintendo slashed the 3DS to $210 and threw Mario Kart in as a bundle (everyone had MK anyway). Sony have never had strong 1st party franchises like Nintendo, there's a reason why there's virtually no bad Mario or Zelda game. The Switch has outstanding sales because like the GBA there's no competition. Nintendo doubled down with the Lite to cut prices even further to appeal to kids and people who wanted to play their flagship games but owned another console.
      People hate Nintendo like they hate Apple which is fine, but all that indicates to me is their a strong business with secure long term growth. You don't have to like it, but they know their place in the market - gaming. Sony is a diverse tech production company and Microsoft is all about software, their gaming divisions are just a small part of the company. Nintendo is just gaming. Sony won't bother making another portable when they're pulling 350w out of the PS5 and Microsoft have never bothered at all...

      If already the PsP is on 4. Place of all handhelds, a new sony handheld could easy beat at least the Switch since the Switch isnt FAR ahead of the psp in terms of sales

      as you said, if they learn from mistakes, I think sony doesn't learn from his mistakes! I've got a psp, and I enjoyed, but the only games I really injoyed were wipeout pure and ghost in the shell. When GT arrived to the psp my use of the psp was marginal (I was working at that moment, and not used a lot) Vita neded use of sdcards (not his propietary expensive system like psp) and good games from the beginning... (well, a good support, I've got the feeling that vita was losing support every day from the first day, I've never had a vita, but in my country the vita TV never arrived, which I think was a fail)

    The Vita was seriously ahead of its time. It's 10 years old and still holds up aesthetically and technically. Not only that, but the actual user experience was and still is impressive. Proper online functionality like voice chat and messages. It was done perfectly and emulates the home console experience. The Switch on the other hand is so BARE BONES in comparison it's frustrating. Slow online store and they only just added Bluetooth despite the Vita having it at launch!

    I still play my Vita. So trust me on this, go for physical copy as much as you can. Because of the difficulty with the storage Sony created for this handheld, it really made things difficult. It really has a lot of potential. I recommend using your storage for PSP and PSOne games. I think rear trigger buttons would have been better than a rear touchpad as well. Now, as for Vita games, I say play Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush is a must, Odin Sphere, Muramasa, Dragon Crown, and God Eater. You'll definitely have some fun there.

And at this point, I'm sure devs aren't getting rich off of the Vita so the whole "support the devs" is a moot point. There is a good reason why the game cartridges are becoming expensive. I've been buying systems since the 80s (yes, I'm old) and I can assure you the cost of the Vita Memory Cards was a barrier of entry into the ecosystem and definitely hindered its success (among other things). After a long day of work and life in general, sometimes I just want to play in my bed on a hand held versus booting up my computer or going to the living room to play with my big bulky home console. But on Vita (with same router, everything just same) it works perfect, to input lag, no bitrate issues, no frame drops. To keep in mind Vita and PS4 only can use 2.4ghz Wi Fi which is damn slow but with Vita - no issues at all. What kills me more is that according to what I saw about ps portal - it also struggles with ps5 just the same as ps4 remote play for me :D

    I was late to the game for the Vita as well (bought it about 4 years ago) but I absolutely love it. There are a lot of great games on the system. Two must have games are Persona 4 Golden (if you like RPGs) and you definitely have to buy Gravity Rush. Not sure about pricing nowadays but they were very popular games at the time so they shouldn’t be to badly priced considering the number of copies available.

    I'm going to recommend Tearaway. It's a really fun game from the Little Big Planet developers and uses the Vita tech really well without it feeling forced in. I can't stand when it feels like the manufacturer forced the developers to utilize all of a systems capabilities. There were a lot of games that had potential on the Wii and DS that have that feel also. So many misteps with motion control and touchscreens.

    This system is also great for homebrew, and you can buy an adapter that lets you use a micro SD card in the game card slot. It becomes a great emulation device. It also has PSP hardware built into it, so it runs PSP games natively. But, because the cpu/gpu are stronger than PSP, it runs PSP games better than an actual PSP.

    Vita was amazing hardware for the time, & still holds up pretty well. Shame about the proprietary everything & the pricing at the time. Nice that it runs the psp library. Also runs psx, though using the back touch screen in place of the missing l2/r2 buttons hurts the psx experience. Pretty easy to install custom firmware if you want to emulate retro games as well, which really helps round out the game library. You can also install a regular microsd card via an adapter that way, though it occupies the game card slot so that's only really worth it if you're going digital rather than collecting physical game cartridges. Last I checked the vita store was still up though, so it's certainly an option.

    Recently I have bought my first vita as well and although it wasnt cheap (I wanted unused vita in perfect condition) I dont regret my purchase. Maybe graphics fidelity isnt exactly on pair with PS3 (graphics looks more like PS2.5) but on such small OLED screen everything looks just jaw droping anyway and I'm still blown away playing games like killzone or uncharted. Aiming on such small analog sticks isnt as precise as I would like, but you can also aim with gyroscope as well and that helps a lot.
    Too shame there werent more AAA games like that on vita, but I still have like 50 interesting games to play. Also I have moded my vita, so it can run some classic PC ports like GTA trilogy) and emulators (custom made retoarch with CRT shaders make these retro games looks amazing on OLED, IMO even better than on real CRT).
    I hope sony will make another portable console, maybe one that could play PS4 games. Being able to play PS4 games everywhere I go (without streaming) would be so awesome.
    You can stream and capture Vita gameplays on PC (there are mamy guides about that on YT), but in order to play vita games on TV without lag and compression artifacts you need "vita PS TV" unfortunately. I wish sony would build vita with tv out (instead of totally unnecesary cameras or back touch panel).

      Nintendo have already went way past greed if you think Sony is greedy, the switch still 300 dollars with no price cut, the switch OLED is 350 dollars and offers a OLED screen, a ethernet port, a better kickstand, and slightly better battery life. They release remasters to their games that release 60 dollars and have no changes to them at all. What's the changes in twilight princess HD? They even lock fast travel under a amiibo. Literally all companies are out to make money that's the priority, even with Sony and Nintendo being "greedy" they still delivery games for fanbases. Microsoft can't even do that, at the series x launch no exclusives at all. They release halo infinite which is flopping, and Forza which is just another Forza game in 2021. But 2022 nothing is releasing exclusive, they buy all these studios yet they can't pump out games like Nintendo and Sony.

    Got a Vita in 2012 and have owned many over the years. Still have a white Slim and it’s amazing. Getting Trophies 🏆 on the go is a big deal for me personally. The Vita was so ahead of its time.

    Purchased the psvita day one with the oled screen. Was completely blown away. Don't know how any true gamer could miss that release. The vita was so far ahead of its time. This was Sony's STEAM DECK. They put it out there at a far cheaper price than they should have sold it for. The oled screen alone was priced at what system sold for.

    10 years ago, I go the brand new psvita. I had it preordered and was so excited to play. That summer, I took a vacation to Europe I’m pretty sure that somewhere in Heathrow Airport, I got pick pocketed and my vita was gone. I really loved the console.

    I always struggled with vita it was 250$ usd at the time and could never justify it over buying a ps3 👀 ended up getting one for 80$ in 2019 and have enjoyed it so much.
    Vita failed because the memory cards were
    $59 $69 and 79$ plus the games it was expensive to get into.

    I think one of my favorite PS Vita functions is the remote play. I love connecting it wirelessly to my PS4 and having the ability to actually play my PS4 games on it in another room, very similar to playing the Switch in handheld mode. :)

    • @stephnicole3078
      @stephnicole3078 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s exactly what I’m looking to buy one for! I’m still amazed that remote play exists and that it works so well. I’m glad to hear it’s as great on the Vita as I had hoped. My question now is, will remote play continue to be supported if the online store goes down? What if Sony stops supporting the console all together? Obviously there certainly other options to play games on the Vita without Sony involved but it’d be nice to have the store to reliably play these games since emulation seems to always be iffy with PS2 games especially. I hope Sony realizes the value in keeping their store up for now, I’m sensing that Vita is getting a second life and they’d likely make some good money from new Vita owners. The way I see it, unless the Steam Deck is just as amazing as it sounds, without the Vita our only way to reliably play many of these PS1 and PS2 games portably is one of the handheld emulation consoles. I’m hopeful at least that the Ayn Odin Pro might fill the spot though if Sony won’t.

    hear me out, that power brick was an EXCELLENT addition to the system. You can easily just take the cable and plug it in to your computer instead of buying another propietary cable for data transfer. They could have easily charged an extra 20$ for the cable if they wanted to seperate it.

    Sony broke my heart with how they treated the Vita. I was a hard core PlayStation fanboy. This and their closure of Japan Studio are the reasons why I bought an Xbox Series S instead of a PS5.

    • @CrazyWerewolf444
      @CrazyWerewolf444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is very close to my choice in buying an Xbox. It strangely started with the Xbox One X which I upgraded to each new iteration before the Series X. And it was mostly due to the lack of care and support from SONY especially when they began to disregard and screw the PS Vita over through its final years. Once they hammered the final nail on the Vita’s coffin I knew I was no longer a SONY fanboy (and I used to be a hardcore SONY fanboy). Not saying I am a fanboy of Microsoft or Nintendo as I am more open to each company’s pros and cons. I still LOVE my Vita (have both OLED and LCD models) plus the PSTV and I will never let them go. They are open sourced (nicest way of saying it) and I am more hooked on my Vita than my Switch OLED (which I also love). Heck I still used my NEW 2DS XL. Hands down the Vita is everything SONY had going for an amazing handheld and an amazing future, but they sadly thought it was a waste of their time. Still am happy seeing others checking the Vita out. It is a device that was and still is ahead of its time.

    I blame the vita’s failure on the special memory required to store downloaded games. Way too expensive. Sony should have x continued with this. Could you imagine where it would have advance to today. PS4 graphics in your hands. The steam deck would have nothing compared to what Sony could have done. I luv my vita’s. And someday hope to hack it and get a sad card cartridge for one of mine.

    “Sony really tried with this system”
    I feel the opposite. Felt like they marketed it as a console companion instead of a console itself. When Nintendo was releasing bangers for the 3DS Sony was porting console games to the vita. That with the proprietary memory pretty much sized up the vita’s coffin. Still one of my favorite handhelds ever

      Sony really tried with the launch and the first 6-8months of the consoles life. Then when it didnt sell like they'd hoped, they gave up on it instead of doubling down and pushing it like Nintendo did with the 3DS.
      Sony has a problem of having a huge ego and no hubris. They expected it to sell because they made it and it was a superior product to the 3DS. But they werent willing to stand behind it and incentivize gamers to jump to the platform.

Have you SEEN that Home Screen, the Welcome Park and all of them different apps pre-installed? They all have something different. That’s just the Home Screen by the way.
