I always dread having to service the parking brake on my XC90 right before the MOT for adjustment. Usually roughing up the surface is enough but last year I ended up adding a little amount of weld into the static side to cause the shoes to sit nearer to the inside of the disk, which achieved the same effect as adding these adjusters but probably took at least twice as long to get it right. I think this video will get a lot of views!
XC90 is even worse for this problem, I’ve had 2 that only managed 17% efficiency on MOT. My friend did exactly what you did, welded a blob on and grinded it back until it was just right. I felt I had to do it the “proper” way, especially for a video. I hope it does do well, I was surprised not to see it covered on TH-cam already.
I take my car to the same garage, they passed it last year no problem the handbrake was fine. Now as I have an AUTO I NEVER use the thing - however this year they failed it (clearly touting for work). I picked him up on this as i had checked and adjusted it and parked it on a handy hill we have near our house. Its a 60 degree hill and IT HELD. I also tried to DRIVE the car with the handbrake on - NOTHING. So I politely asked him how on earth he reckons it doesnt hold??? BE AWARE garages will do this to get THEM to do this work and charge you a fortune. Needless to say - I wentto another and it passed! HMMMM - nuff said🤬🤬🤬 need I say more? Sadly these days so many YEEE HAAAA cowboy set ups - so be careful - GREAT VIDEO THANKS.
What i do on my 850 is with the handbrake adjuster slackened right off i pull the handbrake lever up 3 clicks and then adjust the handbrake shoes untill they just lock, Release the handbrake lever, Ensure the disc is turning free and not binding and then any excess handbrake lever travel (If any!) Can be tweaked by adjusting the handbrake cable 👌
I've got the same setup BUT it hasn't helped make my handbrake work, new pads, discs, shoes etc. My cables have clearly gone baggy and I'm dreading tackling that on my 2002/3 XC70. Luckily it's Auto (Geartronic) so don't hugely need the handbrake.
My friend says that only the genuine Volvo shoes are good enough to make the handbrake work well. I’m not sure, I haven’t tried but may do next time. Mine is already useless again.
Just a quick one about the wheels, how did you get the wheels to fit, im struggling to find wheels with a 65.1mm centre bore, most of the newer style or ones that will fit are all 63.5mm or so? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Mark, I believe it works on all P2 models but definitely the v70 and S60. I don’t have a part number but this is the exact kit I ordered: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295082121676?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_FE0-59GQ7W&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=-S3G5EF8QBK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I have been told it is although I had no idea when I bought it. It was described as “mint condition” but had seemingly been used as an ashtray all its life, it’s taken years for the smell to leave but still in summer it isn’t great!

It had been done on TH-cam already :)
Thank you for a really helpful clip! This saved me alot of money👍👍👍
Glad to help! 👍
Nice easy video to follow thanks for taking your time to make it.
Thanks DG 👍

Original volvo shoes is the cure!.
No messing

Great tip, thank you! That sounds like it could be more effective than the way I did, I’ll try it if I ever have to do another one 👍
Is there a video tutorial on this somewhere please?
I will try that today , thanks for the tip @scotty6346 👌👌
@@henrikloiske8572 Your welcome mate 👍
I fitted some to my V70 years ago. Think I moved the spring to stop it fowling the adjuster.
Yes that spring looked to have a mind of it's own, I think if it was rotated 180 degrees it might have given a little more clearance.
As far as I know the adjuster is supposed to contact the spring, maybe it holds it in position? It’s the same on BMWs and Mercedes.
@@johnbower It is supposed to be like that according to Volvo
What's the caliper bolts recommended torque ?
Hey,
Is that method suitable for P2 S60 models (mine is from 2009)?

I had to have the centres bored. I’ve only ever seen 1 other Volvo with these wheels on and I’ve had them on for the last 8 years.
Excellent video. Does this handbrake upgrade work on the S60 (2006 model). If so, what is the part number, thanks.

Thanks for the link, I’ll be ordering a kit as my son’s s60 handbrake is atrocious 😂
I believe the part # to be 10253021
Ooh is that an Inscription interior?
I have been told it is although I had no idea when I bought it. It was described as “mint condition” but had seemingly been used as an ashtray all its life, it’s taken years for the smell to leave but still in summer it isn’t great!
Need one of those curvy tow hitches. Where to even source one?
It’s a “swan neck” type, there are plenty around on eBay etc. 👍
Good 👍👍
Have you got the part number for the adjusters? Cheers
I’m not sure of the part number but here’s a link to the exact kit I bought: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295082121676?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_FE0-59GQ7W&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=-S3G5EF8QBK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

The trick is only use oem shoes
I’ve heard this too, the shoes I fitted last have been alright this time though. Can’t recall the brand.
How did the insurance claim go ?
