    • @natural7ly694

      Agreed! In my opinion, it's beyond that. Even when I do find videos on high porosity hair, I NEVER see true 4C high porosity. It's usually a looser or silkier type of hair.
      To this day I have not found 4C high porosity, fine hair on TH-cam. Not to mention low density along with it all.
      Maybe no one does it because our type may not "look" as nice as those with other types? I don't know, but I sure could use some help. I know that I can't change the characteristics (fine, low density, 4C). That's OK. I would just like to see some good hair care tips for keeping it healthy and avoiding breakage.
      Fine, combined with high porosity increases chances of breakage tremendously. It's difficult to achieve length when it's so fragile.
      I know that moisture is the key, along with good protein balance, but retaining that moisture?....The struggle is real!

    So I’m trying to be better about taking care of my hair. I was such a lazy natural. Especially being in the military. It was so easy to just throw it in a bun and keep it that way for days (no moisturizing, no washing) just adding more gel and hair spray to keep it slick. And that was mainly because of the detangling, I dreaded it. My hair is so fine and it seemed like it was always matted, I had fairy knots, it was a mess. Now I’m on a healthy hair journey and I’m figuring out what to do with my hair. Now I pre-poo and I finger detangle because I can better feel the knots and get them out as opposed to dragging a comb through and pulling them out. Then i shampoo (I be having hella build up) condition, more finger detangling, curl activator, oil, and then gel for my wash n gos...my hair seems to be thriving with this because it doesn’t get as tangled since it’s more defined. I’m going to try the ACV rinse

    Thanks for the video! I believe I have low porosity hair, but it may have changed since I haven’t checked it in a while. You are right about the protein/moisture balance if you heat style your hair. For years I thought my hair was protein sensitive so I always used moisturizing products. Now, instead of using a moisturizing con one week, and a protein another week, I found a good conditioner that does both. This way my hair isn’t too mushy or too hard. You may want to find one in this category. Thanks for sharing!

    My roots (new growth) seems to be low porosity but the rest is high porosity. The ends have color on it and I also have been wearing it straight for the last couple months. My ends dry fast but my roots will be damped for hours maybe even days. I’m focusing on the high porosity part though since it is the part I have the most trouble with. It’s limp & gets tangled.

    How accurate is the water cup test? A lot of people say it’s inaccurate.

    • @SimplySubrena
      @SimplySubrena  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my case it was very accurate. Since I've changed my hair regimen based on my porosity the health and thickness has taken off

    • @Lee-wb8mt
      @Lee-wb8mt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Awesome! I am glad you were able to determine your porosity that way.
      After doing research I discovered its there are two many variables in place rendering the “strand test” inaccurate.
      I was so frustrated, because I was not seeing results. I did the strand test which lead me to believe I had low porosity hair, however, I have I determined that I have high porosity by finding out the moisture absorption rate; finding out how quickly water penetrated my clean, dry hair in the shower.
      I don’t dye my hair or use heat on my hair, but my hair is high porosity as per the dictionary definition: the state or quality of being porous e.g. moisture absorption). And since following high porosity hair care tips and using moisture and protein rich products my hair is flourishing. Your hair is beautiful !

    • @Bbyc104

    • @tianna215
      @tianna215 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe that's low porosity. Cause when you have high porosity hair then it will dry like very fast. It will absorb moisture in no time. And low porosity takes a long time too dry. That's actually what she is saying. ☺ but maybe you have medium porosity that's an option too.
