The three types of birth control I named that are suitable for people on testosterone are:
    1) Mirena IUD
    2) Nexplanon Implant
    3) Depo Provera Shot
There is also a progesterone-only birth control pill, but my doctors didn't recommend this for me. Also the copper non-hormonal IUD is an effective form of birth control, but won't stop bleeding (so this is an option to consider if you just want the pregnancy prevention effects).

The thing that makes me most dysphoric around ‘shark week’ as I call it, is when: the packaging is obviously targeted towards women (e.g. it’s pink, has flowers and butterflies on it, says something like ‘designed by women, for women’, etc). Also, the fact that I can’t really wear boxers with a pad on makes me HELLA uncomfortable, there’s something about regular women’s underwear, I can’t even look at myself in them 😂
Anyway, this video really helped with all that, will definitely be checking out your recommendations, thankyou man :)

I haven't tried this myself, but I heard from someone who was also most dysphoric about the marketing that he got incontinence pads for men! Like this: smile.amazon.com/dp/B072JC8RQT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_E6XPJB50HAXSTAQ8Y3A3
Again, can't vouch for it myself bc I've never tried it. But might be worth a shot!

You could try wearing women's boxers, or wear your usual boxers over top of your women's underwear. That's what I tend to do. It's a bit uncomfortable if you wear tight boxers, but it might help with the dysphoric feeling. Also incontinence pads for men are definitely a thing! You can buy them in the supermarket as well and they're basically like those thick pads without wings. You could also try a cup! I haven't tried those myself, but apparently you can keep them in for up to like 12 hours a day so you don't have to worry about changing your pad/tampon in the man's toilet if you use that, etc. And this might not directly help with your dysphoria, but definitely just remember that clothing isn't gendered, and neither are periods. Men have periods and men can wear any underwear they like / that fits comfortably. Wearing comfortable "period underwear" doesn't make you any less of a man, bestie, remember that!

Tomboyx has "shark week" underwear! Very masculine and great. Other brands like thinx also have underwears that are in a brief style or "boyshorts" but not inherently masculine.
Edited for less dysphoric inducing language

I like menstrual discs for those scared of menstrual cups and their suction. They are made of silicone and just as reusable as menstrual cups. I personally use nixit (which I like because it comes with a small bag that you can place it in and take with you) but there are other brands as well.

When I went on T and my period stopped 4 months later I was so euphoric for the next 3 years, I had a couple spots of blood sometimes but never more then that. I was being a happy dude thinking I had left that old version of me behind, and then it happened, and it was heavy, I was on the street blood running down my legs begging any woman that passed me for a tampon, I fell hard that day, Its like Id been too happy and I had to pay for it.

As a guy who is 4’11 and has terrible height dysphoria (mainly just due to society seeing it as a “female only” thing to be short. I myself don’t actually mind it) I loved the part where you talked about it in the middle of the video.

PSA: Hollister boxer briefs are the BEST (that I've found) for people who want mens underwear that dont have a massive pouch. They're close fitting and I can even use them with pads if I ever have to (I have the implant so I almost never need to but when I do bleed pads work). The pouch is ... almost nonexistant, honestly. There's probably room to pack but I don't pack as transmasc/NB. At $15-20 a pair they're quite reasonable and they last a long time lol. The regular shorter ones roll up on me but the longer stay put. I highly recommend trying them if any of y'all find big pouches or low crotches to be uncomfortable - or if you just need a tight fitting pair to wear when bleeding.
Also I my thighs are a bit bigger in proportion to my waist and a lot of mens boxers are too tight on the thigh but loose on the waist and these fit just right for me. I think they would fit just as well for someone with a different physique too.

Definitely not trying to discourage anyone from using birth control to stop bleeding as it’s something that a lot of people find really effective, but I also want to mention that a small number of people do not have that experience and I was one of them. I had the implant for a while which stopped monthly bleeding, but caused near constant spotting that still hasn’t entirely gone away over a year after having it removed. For me, that’s worse- i’d really rather just get it all over with in a couple of days and know when it’s coming so I can prepare, but now it can happen at any time randomly. My docs can’t figure out how to fix it. So i just want people to be aware when they’re making the decision whether or not to try BC for bleeding, that there is some chance that it can make the problem worse and not better. No one warned me that there was a chance of this happening, and I wouldn’t have taken the chance if I had known.
I really appreciated this video and your transparency. It’s really helpful as a person who is super dysphoric about bleeding yet has to do it all the time lol

ETA: I’m a cis woman so this may not help.
I’m sure you already thought of this but I wanted to comment in case you hadn’t. I do continuous birth control pills but every few months (6-8 weeks) I take about five days off so my body gets rid of any blood or tissue. If I don’t do this it’s constant gross old blood spotting!

    • @saggguy7
      @saggguy7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@YourPartnerInCrime i’ve tried various forms of bc since then and unfortunately nothing helps the constant spotting. not even taking the placebo pill/taking out the ring/etc. monthly as directed - the implanon just thouroughly wrecked my hormones for some reason. the next step is to wing it by getting monthly injections of luprolide, which is a drug made to suppress menstruation in people with endometriosis. But it can have horrendous side effects, and we don’t really have any research on how it works in people who are on T. so i’m crossing my fingers that it goes okay!

I started testosterone about 3 days ago, the period talk was something that was always uncomfortable for me but you handled it really well, I personally use a cup and I think the fact I don't have to worry about it all day is the reason it makes me less dysphoric, have you ever tried using one? what's your opinion on them?

I sooo wish cups worked for my anatomy bc I totally agree not having to think about them seems ideal dysphoria-wise! I might try again bc if I have bleeding beyond spotting in the future, but when I tried them in high school it seemed like internally I was angled such that I couldn't get a good seal.

Birth control is certaintly not my friend. I was on a combined pill before I ever questioned my gender identity and being on it is what made me realise I had (and maybe somewhat caused) dysphoria (my chest went up 2 bra sizes). It's so crazy. Nothing in me would ever want to go on a pill or hormonal birth control again tbh even if I liked the lack of bleeding and better skin it gave me.

I heard some people sew a strip of fabric into their boxers so they can stick a pad to it.
Also adopted "Tom" (time of month) from some other commenter. Even something you can write in your calender for tracking and it just looks like you met up with your mate Tom ^^
My IUD doesn't stop bleeding completely, but it's WAY less (no T). Using a cup works really well cause it's large enough that I only need to empty it twice a day, so don't need to think about it all the time.
Also if you're 100% sure you don't want to carry a baby, hystorectomy or ablation is an option. Both have significant risks, and ablation might also not last forever if you're still young, so definitely do a lot of research and consult doctors.

I currently use a menstrual cup, which is great bc I only have to think about it when I change it. But I'm not looking forward to the possibility that T doesn't stop me bleeding but does cause vaginal atrophy so I can't use it any more. Gonna have to try a few things next time to see what I like

As a fellow transman, I had my period return in 2021 and that is where I discovered cloth pads. They come in a wide variety of designs and styles and types. They worked out so well in terms of odor control, bleeding capacity and comfort. In case you want to save the environment, cloth pads do that too. Easy to wash and take care of, cloth pads can absorb so much blood and are breathable. I hope this helps anyone who needs it.

I just started microdosing like, 2 weeks ago, and my nexplanon implant expired this month and I haven't replaced it yet (so i havent had them both at once) BUT. I had my implant for 3 years (thats the implant working lifespan, i started bleeding again after 3 years down to the month) and after the first few months my bleeding completely stopped. Sometimes I would have back pain that normally is related to bleeding but I really only ever got spotting like a few times a year. For some reason I thought nexplanon was estrogen but now that I know it's not I'm totally getting it replaced.
