I fight dysphotia during periods by thinking how manly periods are. Come on, it includes everything promoted by toxic masculinity! Blood, pain and suffering! Just what men like!

Anyone going through this, or are in this situation where they see their period as hell because its not part of who they truly are, or even if they are female and just hate it. My advice get your self on the contraception implant as your period stops ive not had one for over 20 years and you just forget about it for 3 years then get it replaced, the other option is go on the contraception injection but you have to have that regularly but again it does stop your period, just thought id share that option with you 😊

Ok I have a bit of a dysphoria life hack with pads. Basically there are these MENS "incontinence pads" (pee pads but it doesn't directly say that anywhere on the box) that are literally sold at Walmart. Yes they are technically for pee but they work exactly like pads, sticky stuff on the bottom and all, they're super absorbent and they say stuff like "for men's body's" all over the packaging. They are bulkier I've noticed but other than that there's no big functional difference. So this is basically like a bargain version of like getting actual "gender affirming pads" or whatever they're called online. Hope it helps!

Well, to be fair, it is called MENstruation.
There are reusable fabric pads as well. For those who find disposable pads to be uncomfortably wasteful.

Or just flat out uncomfortable. They're SO much softer and comfortable. The less waste is a bonus, although I think the main reason I actually started using them.

funny story: one time when i thought i was cis i was watching one of those ‘100 years of’ videos, and it was about period products, and how women dealt with their periods through the decades.
at one point it mentioned how men get periods too, and i got so fucking confused because i forgot transgender people were a thing and so many questions were racing through my head because i had been thinking about _cisgender_ men and i was like _wait do guys have periods too? since when? is it different than female periods? did i miss something? why did i never learn about this?_
and i spent the next five minutes thinking males had secret periods that the girls weren’t supposed to know about until suddenly i remembered and i nearly yelled “oH *TRANS GUYS”*
at the top of my lungs

As a teenager with gender dysphoria, I feel like the worst parts about getting my period is buying pads, trouble getting pads in my boxers, and going to the bathroom during school. I normally wait until I get home to use the bathroom since it makes me uncomfortable to use the women's bathroom but there's no way to wait to change a pad.

    • @YourLocalNirvanaFan
      @YourLocalNirvanaFan ปีที่แล้ว +2

Personally, I use tampons and I find they work better. They allow you to wear boxers, and the also allow an 'out of sight, out of mind' feeling. Plus they don't open obnoxiously loudly, so you could easily change them in the men's bathroom

Gornad Huckshucx it can be invalidating/dysphoric for trans men. periods are uncomfortable for everyone, but feeling more invalidated for something you can’t control during what is usually a very difficult time, feels awful. I don’t think it’s wrong to be inclusive to everyone.

There's this word I like in Swedish. It's "Livmoderbärare", and that means like "ovary bearers". Meaning everyone who has ovaries. So when talking about periods, instead of saying for instance "All women get their period" instead you say "all ovary bearers get their period" because not all women get their period and some guys get them.

Menstrual cups can be left in for up to 12 hours so if you're able to cope with the insertion idea it does lessen the amount of times you need to change them and think about it. There are some cups out there (it varies from person to person) that are so comfortable you can forget the cup is there :)

My periods used to be extremely irregular for a number of reasons, and would also last around 7-8 days, which was horrible both because of the duration but also because it would just randomly happen unexpectedly. I went to my GP for something unrrelated, but she prescribed me a birth control. It doesn't stop your period from happening. But it made it predictable, which meant that when I near the end of the month's worth of pills, I can start to mentally prepared for my period. It also lasts around 5 days now, which is super nice. So birth control could be something to consider.
As a heads-up, birth control is, similarly to period-products, very gendered and aimed towards females, which can be uncomfortable when you're reading through all the instructions and see "female" a million times. In terms of my overall dysphoria towards my periods though, I'm definitely grateful for starting birth control, and once you've read the instructions once you don't need to read them again.

I'm so happy you mentioned how difficult pads can be in boxers because I've never seen anyone address it before. I've destroyed so many pairs of boxers by bleeding through them due to the placement of my pad being off, and it just moving around in general. Winged pads do work better, although I find I still end up bleeding on to my boxers anyways. An easy way to avoid this is to use tampons or mooncups, however I know for some people those items are horrible for a number of reasons (I'm part of that group). I tend to just wear "womens'" pants and just remind myself that it's an item of clothing, it doesn't have a gender, and that I'm only away from boxers for a week. I know that may not help anyone, but, try to remember that the clothes you're wearing do not define you or your gender at all, and at least it's not a visible item of clothing, anyways.

Thanks, Jamie! You've really helped me accept myself and my body over the years! 3 Tips.
1.This vid of Jamie's applies to spotting, implantation, postpartum and also IUD removal bleeds for non-binary and trans and some intersex people as well. Obviously that area can and does sometimes shed blood for many reasons.
    2. There are cloth washable pads and gender-branded "mens'" incontinent pads as well if you want something more absorbent than a cycle pad. With their own other scent. Or just something to cover you to say to a shop clerk - 'where d'you keep grandpa pads?'
    3. On feeling cleaner - sometimes the dampness can be dysphoric or distracting. For heavy days or cup changes, having a little spray bottle of clean fresh water can help you rinse yourself in the toilet...down there...you just spray it on an angle that goes parallel/past the outside of your crotch. This can be noisy but can be nicer than scratchy or terribly thin toilet paper. Or just use disposable wipes or carry a sealable freezer/glad bag to take your flannel washer home for laundry. After my child was born i had a cleaned 375ml softdrink bottle i used because i did not like the spray sprinkley feeling and it can be refilled at any tap that provides drinkable water.
I would suggest something like a non-see-through lunch bag that you can store and transport your supplies in, these fit inside most satchels and backpacks and are a nice not obvious, spillproof option.

As someone who is very active and really hates my cycle slowing me down I highly recommend a menstural cup! It's a game changer. If blood makes you woozy it can be kinda tough because you have to dump it out but it's so easy and I've never had to change it in public because it can be worn up to 12 hours! (Though when I'm at home I empty it every 3-6 hours because that's really best) to me it's kind of less invasive than a tampon if you can believe it, tampons sit lower and there's always that darn string there to remind you of it's presence, with a cup it's just gone and you don't really feel it until you go to take it back out.

My friends have also started using 'Werewolf Time'. I usually only mention it to my girlfriend (typically ranting about cramps\dysphoria) but I generally just vaguely describe it as something along the lines of 'that monthly blood thing'. ... Except it stopped being monthly and started being every other week. So that's not great. I'm thinking anxiety rather than cysts though because there was a simultaneous increase in panic attacks. just wanted to add onto the list of something to replace 'female pads' - men's pads for urinary leakage (TENA is the brand I have come across recently, but I'm sure there are others) are like regular period pads but they are bigger and fit nicely into boxers, so you can avoid wearing female underwear. they come in different sizes and the guide on their strength is similar to female pads, e.g. super light, light, medium, heavy, heavy plus, etc., as well as their sizes (I've only seen medium or large). I haven't got a final verdict about them yet, as I'm still trialling them, but so far they're really good!
they're packaged individually all the same so you can bring them with you to work or school, and they are exceptionally comfortable. in my local shop they are located in the same section as female hygiene items but they do say "men's" on them and whilst urinary leakage is not the classiest of cover ups, but it definitely would help people who pass as male until they need to do their weekly shop and realise they're bleeding; it helped me feel less anxious, personally, and also customer assistants won't give me more of those weird looks when they see me buying a box of tampons or pads.
so yeah, sorry for the rambling, but just wanted to share!
