Hidden Tiny Woodland Creek Holds Big Fish! (Topwater Blowups!)

  • This tiny hidden woodland creek holds some big fish! This session I went exploring a tiny little stream in the hopes of getting some awesome topwater action using tiny micro poppers. Armed with the light spinning setup i had to beat through the bushes to get to the fish, but it was well worth it! I had plenty of action right from the start and managed to land some really nice fish for such a small waterway! Hope you enjoy!

It's always comforting to watch bank fishing to me. It's a break from the typical boat fishing (jet boats, kayaks, etc.) which is the usual theme.
This is also how I fish, so I can relate to all the overgrown nettle, thorns and all the mud. It's great!
    Greetings from the U.S., Chris!

20 odd years ago I took a 12lb 2oz Pike from a river that I could jump across!
The previous week my mate Jacko and I were fishing a stretch of the Eden in Kent and as Jack was retrieving a Chub it was attacked by a Pike. Out came a wire trace and plug (unknown) and two casts later Jack had a Jack! But it wasn't the Jack that made the attack - it's mouth was too small for the bite marks...)
The following week I was there with a lure rod, determined to bank the beast, which I succeeded to do within half an hour! This was the same swim from which I banked (sighted and chosen, with a pounding heart, from a shoal of at least six) my PB Chub (5lbs 1oz)
Don't ignore those small waters - I've had as much fun on 'em as it's possible to have with clothes on!

To be fair after the first pike strike I probably should've changed over to a light wire this session with me using baits with tebel hooks. I just really wast expecting there to be so many pike 😂. If you're using baits with single hooks you can use something like a 16 - 20lb fluro and have some abrasion resistance. (Only when using small perch and chub baits)

I've been trying the same river for 3 or 4 years caught so many small ones so presumed there would be bigger and to finally get one was amazing but left me more puzzled as to why it's taken so long now I know there's definitely bigger ones in there. I know King fishers seem to like perch so maybe herons and cormorants do too. Also wear a bloody long sleeved shirt mate saves loads of grief with nettles and brambles and don't get as sweaty

I really can't believe that anyone would fish there with all those nettles without a coat, whatever the temperature. You were very lucky that that water wasn't owned by a club or syndicate or if it was they let you fish there. Where I live rivers like that would be strictly private. By the way I don't consider that stream to be particularly small, I'd call it a river, I've often fished ones only two foot wide.
