- Well it was time for the first lure fishing session of the river season. I just couldn't resist targeting some big chub on topwater bug lures! The aim was to catch not only chub, but also pike and perch on the topwater baits and hope to get some wicked drone shots of these fish smashing these topwater bait!
Hope you enjoy!

You can tell its a good fishing channel when you don't skip a boring bit when watching, your channel Chris is where no one ever skips a second, splendid videos always
Boring bit???
I must have missed the section on tools. Were they for wood or metal?
@@thebolsta haha, you must be English, good old sarcasm humour lol
Loving the drone shots your production quality has gotten so much better recently
A cheeky Ebike upgrade 👌🏽
Great content every time
The perfect start to a Monday afternoon!!! Tea in hand, feet up, let’s go!
Always a pleasure to see you out and about catching some very nice fish. A real mixed bag and certainly worth a watch. Keep em coming mate.
Wow, not fished for a decade. But those swims are taking me back to the river I used to fish as a teen in Northamptonshire ... Nostalgia.
Just purchased a couple of salmon bug lures thanks to your great video Chris 🐞
Sky needs to be having a chat with you mate. You’ve got it.
Absolutely brilliant watching Chris can't wait for the pike ones
Great video Chris I think you need to invest in some foot wear with tread on the soles 😂😂
G'day Chris, nice session beautiful Chub. All the best form down under mate 👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
love to see the salmo lures one of the best lure brands out there man.
Really enjoyed this one Chris, like the salmo gear too . Them chub are lovely sized fish.ready for the next one now 😄 nice one.
4:27 Predicted the future with this one 🤣
What a perfect chub bait...not surprised about the perch..but that pike !!might get trout on it as well!...
Glad you're putting those skills I taught you last summer to good use ❤
As usual a cracking and informative video!! Many thanks and keep them coming
What an excellent session; really itching to get out n fish now!! Top vid as always!! 🔥🔥🔥
Brilliant footage on the drone
Well done and love the drone shots. I have been fishing one of those tiny Salmo bugs for 3 years without a bite. A tiny Mepps spinner catches EVERYTHING.
Size ?
@@ivanivan7270 I switch between 0 silver rainbow or a 1 plain silver.
The cast for that first Pike was a thing of beauty itself, then the take... oooooeeeee!! Great Chub here too, I've never got on with topwater bug type baits, more action with small frog lures.
Nice to see baits that are new to me, thanks!
Awesome vid Chris as always!! Salmo is one of the best brand for chub lures. It is also worth to check their hornet wobbler , incredible work and gave me a lot of decent chub recently.
Bug n tug ! Pop dont stop ! Chris don't miss !!
Some great fish in this sesh, Amazing video!
Great Chris, you have made my day again.
Love the DJI footage Chris
Great video as normal
Hi Chris
Stunning video yet again !
I can't find those Waders you've got on in this video, they look like trainer too😂
Nice vid mate, ive just ordered some scales. Been fishing a res for big perch and trout, had some good ones 👍
Great video. Lovely chub.
I love this bait, its amazing. Its super fun to use!
So all you sponsored out there get behind this man and help him financially
What a great session. Those salmo bugs are great. I just don't think you can beat the excitement of top water fishing
've used the salmo bugs but struggle to get them to surface straight away. Do you leave them on mono and not use wire trace? I've left the trace on when using them in case a pike takes it but mainly want chub on them.
@@yoyo895 it depends. In very chub heavy locations I use a fluoro leader (around 8lb) of course there's always a chance a pike could take it, but it's very rare on those locations.
On venues I think pike are more likely to have a pop I'd use a very light weight trace or wire (around 4kg) designed for fishing with smaller lures (or even UL)
@@LG_Fishing Thanks for replying! That's helpful and should solve my problem :)
Great vidéo 👍
Another great video love your content
Lovely session I'm like you with my local river I know it like the back of my ✋
You should intro Chris welcome to the best channel you brighten my day everyday m8
Fantastic video
My favorite way of fishing !
Been a good season so far for me 4.8lb Bream a PB, noted they do give a good fight unlike a few years ago where they gave a half arsed lunge and then roll over float to the top. Caught an eel 2 days ago all on the Tees, don't like eels buggers to unhook at the best of times. Looks like your having fun, some good fish on those bugs, imagine in fall when blackberries drop and you use that black one.
You dont use or promote the best tackle 100% respect to you
Hiya mate love the vids just wondering what polarised sunglasses you use?? Seem to be able to see so much 😅 cheers
Hey Chris. Have you tried the bug for trout? Maybe a video idea? Trout are so acrobatic should get some good reactions
Can you do a Timu fishing challenge? I got a baitcaster, braid, soft baits, hooks and other random stuff for about £12. Id love to see what you come up with 😂
Wonder how well the chub would do with a bread imitation fly
Why not a bug fly? I'd think they would prefer that over bread.
@@waltgrisly509 not if it’s hovis
A slug would be awesome
@@hjevs152😂
Really enjoy your vids, some great fishing. Although i'd like to see you weigh these fish, def not what your claiming. I'd a pollock yest, 60cm and fat, was 4lb 7oz. I thought it was at least 5.5/6 lolol keep it up man!
Whiplash white is thinned braid ive used to date also. 28lb strain is around 0.03/0.05mm great for casting small lures through the wind
Polish Salmo lures are best in the world. No doubt for me. Plus to have such fishy spots is priceless. Regards
I used to enjoy watching your rat 🐀 bait pike videos. Can you do more of those?
Been using the salmo bug for years especially when i go to Germany fishing the rivers near the black forest and for large and bigmouth bass and musky and pike in USA
BEST TH-camR EVER!
you need to try westin W10 braid mate. i use 13lb and you can barely see it its so thin. perfect for the smaller bug type lures
Not a great lover of sponsorship Chris but....I feel a good sponsor will help you greatly m8 cos you deserve the best
Recently found your channel. Enjoyed your content so far. Are you purposely not giving the locations?
Nice, thanks!
Its like watching a fishing program thats been produce for a documentary
Would those bugs work with a single barbless circle or inline hook?? They do look really cool I'm gonna have a look and try em for wild brown trout and set trout/salmon I reckon they'd work well.
Has Chris ever got the scales? Hahahaha I've never seen him weigh a fish ever 😂😂
Good man
Been loving the content mate, I was just wondering if anybody has a good budget rod/reel combos to suggest, Just starting to get into fishing for pike/perch or anything on lures myself but don’t want to splash out big money yet and I heard you don’t need to spend loads for good gear, appreciate any feed back thanks!
Hi! Nice video, this Salmo bug is very popular for catching small chubs in Ukraine, where I am from. But the ultimate bait for big chubs is Jackall One footer crankbait, have you ever used it?
Wish I had water's around this West Sussex area that allowed summer lure fishing
What net is that your using chief, struggling to find a decent fold up one, the tackles got to fit on my bike. Cheers.
I've been had right up by the stingers recently 😂 gits
Salmo Tiny is still by far the best Salmo lure for chub 😊
yup
@@jointgib who knows, knows :D Illex Chubby 38, Storm Subwart..
I recently got a salmo bug but haven’t used it!
Hi all - is it right that these triple hooks usually cause more damage to the fish even if they are de-barbed? I remember I used one (for the first time) and it took me ages to get out of the fishes mouth (I imagine very painful for the fish) and I never went back to triples. Would this bug work with a single in-line?
Hey guys new to lure fishing so quick question can I fish for pike all year round
Chris how are you getting the drone shots without controlling the drone? 😂
Drones can hold their position and can also follow you if you want, DJI ones can, that's all I ever used, not sure about other brands.
@@blankmasterfishing I did not know that. That's so interesting, guess I'm going to go down the drone rabbit hole
@drink676 oh man, your wallet is about to become a black hole😂
Have you consudered branching out? Like maybe taking a holiday to North America? I know a couple Top Notch guides in Wisconsin.
I'll be buying the exact setup you are using.
That's what they were hoping, yes!
@@carlos777ukHahaha exactly. Salmo gear isn't bad to be fair but not a touch on Japanese gear
Are Salmo bugs any good for trout?
Love the lures @£7*50 each
A dob of black paint on a hazelnut, rigged with line tie and small treble (de-barded of course) will also do nicely at 4 for a quid!
The salmo bugs are 3-4g so confused why the rod is 7-28g
What net you using dude?
Them nettles be eating me alive
Itchy, itchy.
What drone are you using?
Chris could you please Identify the fish I have in my profile pic, caught on ultralight lure. I originally thought it was a hybrid but the more I look at it the more it looks like a roach, sorry about crap pic not a great photo didn't think it was anything decent 😕 it has red fins & red eyes I didn't even weigh it ffs.😅
❤❤❤
I used a salmo lil bug last week, problem was on the third cast the link for attaching said bug decided to break, this rather p'd me off somewhat as the lure just sat broken in an impossible place to retrieve it, gutted
I got into top water lures from watching you dude.
Your vids are cool, thank you
Can you make a video on how to tie dropshot please?
Why treble hooks? Surely singles would be fine?
would barbless hooks work for dead baiting for perch?
Yh buddy
Thanks very much
Is that 2 or 3 cm lil bug ?
Boom
Congratulations on being first.. A shiny gold medal as large as a frying pan is in the post.🏅

You do any fly fishing? I reckon you’d love it if you don’t.
The river colne i fish where all dead all the pike and chub where dead so sad was looking forward to fishing it I don’t know what there putting in the water
Lots of construction work going on around your way
@@bootyluvas Yh I heard affinity water might had something to do with it as well
@@tyronealaka6537 my god this needs to be stop these water company are about profit.not the consequences
again a very nice m8, Break a leg
It’s so strange seeing you get all these topwater
strikes. On the river Nene, we don’t get any surface strikes anymore, since around 2010. We have a theory why, that all the Pike that had a genetic disposition to strike, were taken for the pot, hence never passing on their genes 🧬. Now all that’s left are the dead bait and subsurface hits. I guess the same would apply for Cormorants, taking more brave visible fish.
nice videos wood like to fish with you same time
4:59 thats what she said
We will all be lake fishing in 5 years.
Due to the pollution of the rivers. All the water company bosses should be locked up.
9:01 It really was a bit treecky
Thing is, if you brought scales with you, you wouldn't catch any good size fish🤣🤣
really sad how Salmo went from nice, realistic wooden lures, to old school Storm style, Chinese lures
where abouts are you fishing? Wish we had these waters down Somerset area
Germany
❤❤❤🏆🥇🏆❤️❤️❤️
I recognise that swim. Its where the idiot let his dog swim during the competition when caught the big pike. 🙄.
