    It's shocking that a 6 time major winner can be an even better teacher

    Absolute legend! Such great advice and doesn't overcomplicate it. Thanks Lee

    Simple perfection. Remember, this is a man with a lot of natural talent and a creative mind that has hit a million chip shots. It's like watching Jacque Pepin debone a chicken. Absolutely sure of what he is doing with no wasted effort.

    After messing around with a lot of more, shall we say "modern" ideas about the short game and not getting consistent results, I went back to basics with Lee's idea of two basic chips. It absolutely works. The only thing I changed was that my low runner with the forward shaft lean is more of a sweeping motion where the bounce of the club keeps the ball from digging in like it does for Lee. It's almost the same as my putting stroke and the ball pitches forward low and fast but does a kind of half check and rolls out about half the distance it flew on a level green from a tight lie in the fringe or from the fairway. From the rough you get more rollout.

    Also, notice when he hits the low shot he moves the ball back in his stance, just inside his right heel.

    We mortals listen to players like Lee in the hope a few specks of the genius stardust will rub off. Players of this caliber though often don't make such good teachers because how can it be possible for them to relate, I mean really appreciate, just how poor the average Joe is and what they need to hear? Still have to watch and listen to these guys though while they are around, because they are what is possible. Eg, I can never hope to get near Phil.M but just watching him operate inspires me. Biggest takeaway from nearly all these guys is they've all worked their asses off and that raw talent can only get you so far.

    • @outlander234
      @outlander234 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's his preference, its not necessary to do so. its all about how much loft you want in a particular shot with a particular club. I dont get why golfers get so hung up on particular set up when in reality you only have two types of shots, the push and flip, de-loft or increase loft. Are you gonna use 60degree and then de loft it into a pitching wedge or are you gonna use a pitching wedge and do normal swing? You can take 8iron and just push it in for a nice chip shot. It doesnt matter as long as you get the trajectory you want.

  • @golfingmadeeasy

    How about playing the ball a little forward of center in your stance and not flipping? Flipping is a variable. Variables in a golf stroke are hard to control.

      Lee is actually standing the Shaft Vertical at Impact for the Lob Shot and then just letting it release.
      Watch it again a few times.

    Why go through the hassle of using a sand wedge for a low chip instead of a 9, 8, or 7 iron, Good teaching overall, I think Gary Player is still the best teacher

      Wedges bite.. that's y

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends upon How Close one is to the Green, and then the Distance from the Landing Spot to the Pin.
      5 yards in Front of the Green to a Front Pin = Wedge.
      Same 5 yards in Front of the Green to a Middle or Back Pin = Short to Mid Iron.

    • @outlander234
      @outlander234 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on what type of shot particular person prefers. With a wedge you can bump it but also add backspin to it to make it stop sooner while with bigger clubs you can only bump it cant quite cut it. Obviously it matters where the pin is also and green.

      Yes you do, almost always. It denotes a superior golf swing - someone that knows how to manipulate every golf shot. Be a man, try it and don't wuss out :)

      @darrinlygrisse5287 ปีที่แล้ว

      Feel vs. real. Most pros do exactly what he is describing when hitting a soft shot. Think of brushing the trailing edge of the wedge on the grass.

    • @outlander234
      @outlander234 ปีที่แล้ว

      What? There are two types of shots in chipping, the bump and the flip. If the pin is close to the edge of the green in front of you how are you gonna bump it and roll it close to the pin? For this type of shot you need the flip shot to get maximum loft and make it bounce and stop. Go watch Rick Shiels latest chipping video with an expert. Its a tricky shot to master not gonna lie but results are amazing.
