    My dad was an executive chef to a country club where the champions tour would come and play, and Trevino loved my dad. Would always hug him and tell him he’s the greatest. He used to call me jr. Every year I’d sneak in to the kitchen and Lee would come look for my dad.
    Great guy!!

      I've always admired Lee. He came from nothing and having nothing to now being a who he is now. It shows if you want something bad enough you can have it if you stay persistent. He's always been the same happy gregarious man who loves the game of golf. As all these legends continue to die off guys like Lee, Jack, Gary become even more precious to golf fans, because they're the remaining links to what the old school game was all about. It's a way different game today, but we can't forget it's roots.

I always admired guys like Lee Trevino and Gary Player who still are great ambassadors to the game today and have kept in amazing shape well into their 80s. I wish the Masters would let Lee Trevino be one of the ceremonial hitters with Jack, Gary, and Tom. My Guess is Jack may eventually step down, because he's struggling with walking lately, and Gary may do this tee off thing well into his 90s.

    I was lucky enough to live in a community in Napa when I was growing up that had a PGA tournament roll thru every year and saw all the greats: Nicklaus, Watson, Player, and of course Trevino. I once saw Trevino at the practice range in a practice sand trap, with at least a thousand balls in it, methodically and slowly concentrating on each hit. That’s what makes a true GOAT, in my opinion.

    Trevino had a great game. I was a member for a season at a course in Syracuse called Drumlins. I was told that Trevino held the course record there, having shot a 61. He bogeyed the eighth hole, which is the number one handicap, in that round.
    I'm about a 16 handicap; a good striker but nowhere near the consistency or shot-shaping ability of these guys. Whenever I had a par or better on eight, I always took a bit of joy in the fact that I played that hole a little better than he did.

Woods is mainly known for having the best short game and putting in the world at one time. In chess it is the same. We have specialists in certain openings and people that are known to be the best endgame player or the best tactician etc etc. Just because you are world champion at something doesn't mean you are the absolute best in the world at every single aspect of that game.

    Tiger knows the Jack generation which produced Lee Arnie Player Casper Miller Watson Seve and Jack had the best players ever. Tiger was lucky he faced far weaker competition during his 10 year run of greatness. He knows things would have been different if he faced the legends that Jack had to face using a tiny wooden driver which he would not be able to control.

    • @jamesanthony5681
      @jamesanthony5681 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thetruthfornow6045 Too many swing changes, I'd agree. At Tiger's peak, he was better than all his competitors with all 14 clubs in the bag. No other golfer can make that claim, neither Jack nor Hogan. Tiger would have found a way to correct an errant drive with the old persimmon driver in the '60's,' 70's.

    • @thetruthfornow6045
      @thetruthfornow6045 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesanthony5681 he definitely dominated for 10 years. Only Bobby Jones could compare. But he beat hacks who were intimidated by his length. The only other long hitter was Daly who had his issues. By 2009 Phil, Koepka and DJ came along and had respect but no fear of the red shirt. They were able to hit their drives farther and Tiger was reduced to his four letter curses as he did not win a major for the next 10 years which would be his last. Jack beat Arnie in 1960 in a major. He beat Norman in a major in 1986. In between he had 16 majors and 19 runner ups. I would call that GOAT material. Tiger does.

    • @jamesanthony5681
      @jamesanthony5681 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thetruthfornow6045 Hacks? Mickelson, Ernie, Vijay, Couples, Duval, Furyk, Davis Love III were all hacks? I go back to my earlier comment: Tiger was better than anyone with all 14 clubs, and could beat you anywhere on the course: Off the tee, fairway, in the rough, 100-120 yard wedge play, putting, chipping. Mickelson couldn't beat him and Phil knew it. Likewise, Ernie. (FYI: Phil preceded Tiger on the PGA Tour). Today's equipment - the clubs, golf balls - and the way courses are manicured, has brought the average player closer to the top player. If you could transport Tiger as a 20 year old back to 1962 and give him the persimmon woods and those golf balls, where you could shape shots much more than with today's ball, then there'd be greater separation between him and the average player on tour, no doubt.
      As far as the GOAT conversation, Jack has the most majors, runner ups, top 3's, top 10s, etc., so you'd have to give it to him for his excellence over a longer period. But as far as who was a better golfer at his *absolute peak* , that's a separate conversation.

    The old guard, Lee, Chi-Chi, Sarge, and others learned to play on dry hard-pan public courses where you had to learn all the shots. Tour players today were raised on the manicured courses where you didn't need to know those shots. Are they better players? Sure. Do they have all the shots. Not by a country mile. The great thing about Lee is his ability to simplify everything so that anyone can understand. Takes a driver and tells Charlie Woods how to hit a wedge shot that works on the British courses. Kid don't know how adding that shot might benefit in 10 or so years.

      Are Stocks really that profitable? Heard so much about the fluctuating market prices and complexity of reading chats and all that. I'll appreciate your feedback.

      How do you know Charlie couldn't give a darn about what Lee is saying?

      @@jamesrobinson1529 - Probably because Charlie quit paying attention to Lee pretty quickly and was by himself hitting chip shots.
