And don't forget there are people that are still kids that don't have responsibilities or worries that adults shove on to their kids they should experience the joys of being child they are trying to live in simple times even reading comic books can just be as unique as other entertainments mediums as you're not just reading the words in a comic but you also have characters that can express themselves in the given comic that they're in and it's visually stimulating to see them compared to a book where you have to imagine a scenario of those characters where is in a comic these characters are already drawn so that way it can captivate the readers

I love video games not just because they're fun, but because they can be a safe place to take on a challenge and grow to overcome it. If I fail a class, I'm out thousands of dollars, and I waste months of my life that no amount of money can ever get back. Not to mention I'm one of the many folks out there that absolutely despises the idea of failing. The curse of a formerly gifted child with a now-fried brain I guess.
Games can be a *huge* challenge ( FROM Software FTW), but each time you fail, you learn a little more. You improve just that little bit. Until at some point, you pull it off. You beat the boss. And even better, you did it *your* way using a build that fits you. And when you meet that boss again in your second playthrough? You channel your inner Vergil and style all over that poor scrub with cold, ruthless efficiency. That right there is pure joy.

I don't think of games as a safe space because remaining in a safe space limits/stunts growth.
I play games to relax and find a challenge I can't anywhere else. You can't use games as a crutch for finding challenges because at the end of the day, it's a virtual world with no true real rewards.
Games can teach patience and critical thinking, but if you're not using that elsewhere, those skills are wasted. They're not being applied.

Ultimately, we're on this Earth to waste time, distract ourselves, and live our own lives until we eventually die. That's what a human life is. Different people want different things out of their life and no one way to living is any more valid or invalid than another. To say that playing video games is any more of a "waste of your life" than indulging any other hobby or special interest is incredibly reductive, and I'm really glad to be recommended a good video that shares that viewpoint. thanks for mentioning accessibility options in games. I'm legally blind but have enough usable vision to enjoy gaming, btw monster hunter is my jam... anyways, I have been doing minor work in that area for quite a while now. One of my favorite quotes I've found when discussing this topic is "one person's quality of life might be another's accessibility feature." What I mean by this is easily showcased by ironically enough, Monster Hunter World and Rise. In world and previous titles, it wasn't exactly super noticeable when your weapon sharpness decreased a level but in rise they advertised a "quality of life" feature where there is now a sound and a flash associated with the occurrence. For me, this is not a "quality of life" feature, but an "accessibility" feature because it's difficult for me to take my limited vision off of the monster to check my sharpness bar. This means I can just count the flashes/sounds to know when it's time to sharpen instead of risking being flattened because I looked up at the bar. On that note, I'm just going to leave this comment with the fact that I actually can't wait for wilds because the mount will solve so many navigation issues for me.

to me. gaming needs no justification to be accepted.
the fact that people do demand such is what makes me lose respect for them.
    a render is considered art
    a movie is considered art
a program is considered a legitimate product worthy of payment and work aswell as being an art
    an album is considered art.
a stage play whether it be with puppets or actors is an art
put all of them together and you get a video game.
therefore a video game is not just an art, it is multiple artforms acting in unison.
the fact people can't understand this should be enough to show just how worthless their lowly opinions are.
they don't even offer any legitimate criteria for how to make it legitimate to them, making all their words nothing more than empty slander and wasted breath.
what makes art soo valuable is because it is fundamental in what makes us human.
as human beings we think about things we do not know, we dwell upon situations that would never occur and most importantly is how we derive psychological vigor and strength through those thoughts crystalized into objects. these objects known as art are fundamentally what link us to our fore fathers and what will bring our thoughts and lessons to our successors.
those who wish to invalidate it's existence are fools

Games can also be a safe place to experiment with different ideas, to let yourself feel, to be a kind person and to be just a human, especially in a world where you have to do many sh*t you don't want for money. In real life, not only our hard works but also our kindness and generosity rarely paid off. But games, they're designed to let you win, even the brutally difficult ones. If you help an NPCs or choose good options, games reward you for that in some way in most of the time. For me, games are the safe places to be myself.

It probably is true most people who hate gaming probably just don't understand how they work or how there could be value for some reason. I think of all the videos of kids trying to get their moms to play Minecraft and they barely understand that they have to walk. It really is a language as you said. There are some things you just have to understand beforehand when playing a game and sometimes that isn't even enough when a game is more complicated or uses a completely new style of gameplay. You almost always have to put in an amount of effort to understand the way a game should flow in general, then maybe even how it should flow for you personally. It might also be that the enjoyment of games is up to your own given effort and some people don't want to put effort into something that is long and percieved as "fake".
With something like a movie or book everyone understands they just have to watch the screen or read so there are very few people who don't understand the value of movies or books, but gaming is different. Tbh, i don't think games are only entertainment either they are just as valuable artistically as these other options, maybe even more so with the added interactivity.

Why would anyone do things that simple seems to have no overarching purpose for doing said thing. The answer is very simple my friend, it's fun. Not everything in life needs to have a purpose, and not everything about life has to be so serious either. We have one life, and we chose to enjoy it in the way we know how. Also they teach me many things, ive learned better by playing games instead of school sometimes, my Poor english is at least able to read properly sometimes and im not gonna make this long describing all the bible.
I admit i just got into a tryhard stage for many years too, because i felt it was needed for me to have some chance of recognition and value, yet i got burned up and learned to put myself in my place and soon enjoying every piece of any game i play, even in the bad ones i can now just, find it fun without taking myself far because i still have that bad side of tryharding and spending an unhealthy amount of time on it, my surroundings doesnt helped me that much (Except a few friends that point it out)
i can agree that, also games change my life and its a part of what i am, im proud of it at some point, but for now i dont wish to them to get also too much into it, its like holding your phone or being at your computer sitting all the days, it needs some awareness and self-control to not build a solid bubble, the most dangerous thing is getting comfortable for too long.

One of the core reasons people enjoy gaming is that it's great for people who want to lose that naivete over time and as a result can make great judgments against the people who complain about video games being very hypocritical on what they enjoy, not to mention the fact that everything in the real world is already in shambles with people getting laid off 99% of the time regardless of what job you're working for.
Personally I'm always in the middle when it comes to jobs and what people enjoy so no one would be ashamed for that. I'll even resort to do the same logic to them by questioning their spare time if they decided to play fire with fire, it'll result them that they're complaining having their brains fried because they have nothing to back up on what they're complaining about. If you don't want gamers then make success easier to achieve by making the knowledge available for everyone and making gatekeeping illegal. Society isn't dying because of gamers, society is dying because it's so bad that average people rely on escapism to maintain their sanity while the 1% make success unattainable.

I think too much of anything is bad, Gaming if done in healthy amounts it is great and can have benefits and in my opinion are more entertaining than any other form of entertainment simply because it is more active and engaging than any other

Here is the other side to everything you say about the rewards, the satisfaction, the engagement, it is designed to take your time and attention, not to mention in many ways, for a companies financial gain.
As I grow older, I’ve come to appreciate and also dislike gaming, I really understand why people see it as a waste of time, because in some ways it is. Especially if you have ADHD, this is weapons grade dopamine and pulls you out of reality, healthy ways of getting dopamine.
I only lived to play games for years, and it’s come full circle to show me how much of my life is tied to a digital identity and life that can be stripped away at a moments notice.
I cannot stress the importance of the real world enough, or the attention and focus one puts into it in their young adult and teen life. So many people unwittingly sabotage their future selves by getting engrossed into games, social media, technology, with an unhealthy relationship to it. This is by design, we are in the attention economy, and most of us are on the losing side.
Enjoy your games, the amazing stories and experiences you get to have, and the friends you make along the way, but please go outside, and think about tomorrow you, and the people around you. Not all adventure in life has to be digital, there is a large world outside with far more depth waiting, and having a healthy balance will do wonders for you.

honestly, gaming has made Me a really good driver, a good shooter at the range, increased My reaction speed severely.
I can't go and watch movies or any kind of series because that genuinely is a waste of time. (just sitting without improving anything)

The last phrase was actually not even planned. The entire video was finished but I noticed some background noise in the original recording of the last section so I re-recorded it and the moment I was done I just threw that in there cuz after 44 days of work I could finally go back to playing games

I am 34 year's old going on 35 and monster Hunter world was the 1st monster hunter game i played.
Reason i bring this up is despite not playing games that hard most of my life i actually beat most content with zero help.
It is true in the iceborn expansion i needed way more help than the base game.
But i still beat the main story in iceborn with no help.
The only thing in iceborn that i needed help with was a couple of special assignments.
Honestly alatreon and fatalis is the only two i need help with aside from rajang.
But let me say i struggled to get to that point in the game.
    I beat fatalis in co-op at around 500 hour's.
But to be fair i did more grinding and side content once i beat the main story.

I would always recommend not waiting until the very end to do the rest. The """side""" content is not really side content. Sure it is not mandatory but modt of the non jey quests hold hidden base upgrades behind them. Be it more farming slots, better food, new gear etc etc

I found my friends and my mate of 16 years because of a specific videogame series. Basically all good people we met - we met thanks to games.
Tell me how many people found their soulmates and friends via watching TV for 6 hours straight everyday. Haha.

I know many people who think video games are for kids, not adults, and that they're only about shooting stuff while sitting in an internet coffee. LOL.
The same people can't wait for Fridays and holidays and spend a lot of money getting drunk in a pub, rinse and repeat.
    Keep gaming!
