Ok, I tried your recipe and they turned out so awesome! Usually I go through all the videos showing what different things people add to them. I must say, it was enlightening. I found yours to be the most useful ingredients. Not to complicated and just the right amount of ingredients. This one is a winner! I put a star on the recipe card I made.

I first tried Pecan Sandies in College in 1987.
34 YEARS later, it is STILL the only cookie I will eat.
    THANK you for this recipe!🙏🏾❤️💛💚

The perfect man with the perfect recipes!
I went a little "extra" for Christmas.
I glazed my pecan halves for garnishing.
    ●6 tbl. Brown sugar
    ●1/2 tea. Salt
    ● 1/2 tea. Vanilla
    ●2 tbl. Water.
◇ mix in skillet, cook until bubbling, abt 2 minutes
◇ add pecan halves, stir for abt 3 minutes.
Separate and cool on silicone mat, or parchment.
You can always eat the leftovers😊

I've made quite a few of John's recipes and every one has been a success. Made his peanut butter and oatmeal cookies. They didn't last long so I had to make another batch. They didn't last long either. His chocolate sheet cake and muffins are out of this world. This is my go to channel when I'm looking for inspiration or something new to bake.

Oh my. I’ve always wanted a Sandies recipe. True story; I once sent a pkg of Keebler Pecan Sandies in a care package to soldiers in Iraq. They thought that was so comical that I mailed sand to them that a group of them signed a letter of thanks. 💕

I glazed some pecan halves to place on top for a shiny look.
Then I really went crazy, sprinkling with glittery gold dust (edible) while still warm.
They looked pretty on my Christmas cookie tray.

Made these yesterday for a party and they were a hit! All gone by the end of the party. And so easy to make. I love the tip to put the raw cookie dough log in a paper towel core to prevent them from flattening while firming up in the refrigerator! I made 2 logs 6 inches long each and then cut each log into 12 slices. Then I used the cookie cutter trick to make them all nice and round. I saved leftover dough scraps from the cut cookies to bake up for us today!

I made mine with black walnuts. I also used black walnut extract that I made. Black walnuts may be a Southern thing, I don't know. I never see them used on any TH-cam videos. The cookies came out beautiful and delicious.

I agree with John, Pecan Sandies are absolutely scrumptious! The only thing I do differently when I make this recipe is, I prefer to use 1/2 a teaspoon of fine grain salt instead of the kosher salt. I know he says not to, but for me it's a taste preference. I don't like kosher salt because you can actually taste it in your baked goods because of how big the pieces are. Fine grain salt gives an even flavor to your baked goods instead of having periods of just salt and periods of just sweet.

I have to say I’m a bit surprised that as much as you love, LOVE vanilla, you don’t make your own. It’s krazy easy and the results are way beyond incredible. I have a pint canning jar w Bonded Bourbon as the liquid followed by several vanilla beans which is now over 2 yrs old along with a 1 cup vanilla bottle now filled with Ciroque vodka and vanilla beans. Both are truly the best ever vanilla extracts and just so very easy to make and then enjoy 😊

Such a lovely crunch to them, they're irresistible!

    • @silverdemonwolf426

      @@keekdkelly Sure!
      1 egg white
      1 tbsp vanilla extract
      1 cup sugar
      2 tsp cinnamon
      1 tsp sea salt
      4-5 cups pecans
Cinnamon is approximate, I generally use a bit more, and a bit more sea salt.
Heat oven to 250F and grab a big non-stick cookie sheet, do not add foil or parchment paper. You can spray with cooking spray but it won't do much. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and salt, set aside. Add egg white and vanilla to large bowl, whip (I generally just use a fork) until good and frothy. Begin adding pecans and stirring in, amount will vary based on pecan surface area (so, whole vs chopped, whole ones I find are best for the recipe), keep mixing in pecans until liquid stops pooling in the bottom and all the pecans are good and coated. Add sugar mixture and mix to coat. Turn out onto the cookie sheet and spread as evenly as you can. Cook for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to break them up. They will look done at the 45 minute mark but the extra 15 minutes is what will keep them crunchy after they cool.

Because I don't have easy access to pecans, I substituted them for walnuts (you've got to rub them with a paper towel after toasting) and then tried four different versions: 'pure walnut'; walnut with a maple syrup glaze; walnut with a fresh and candied grated orange peel; and coffee and walnut.
It's an incredibly simple and adaptable basic recipe, It's a 'strong' recipe that really lets you play around with it. All the cookies/biscuits I made came out beautifully. However, the one that needed something extra was the maple glaze- the principle of a good bake were there, but they needed something to give them an oomph.

I would love it if you had cookbooks. I realize I can print your recipes, but I would definitely buy a book if you had one.
