The talk box works by directing the sound from the guitar into your mouth via a tube. You articulate the sound using your mouth which is then picked up by the microphone. It's a pretty cool piece of kit!

You were asking about the vocoda/talk box. In simple terms this is how it works. There's a box on the floor at the bottom of the mic stand. in that box is a small speaker. When a foot switch is pressed it diverts the sound of the guitar to that speaker. The sound then travels up a plastic hose attached to the mic stand and into the mouth where it can be shaped and change by the guitarist. That sound is picked up by the vocal mic and amplified in the usual way. A simple device, but it takes someone to think of the idea in the first place. Not to be confused with the modern version which is added by a computer to a recorded vocal in the same way as auto-tune......no tricks with Floyd. You're welcome ✌️❤️🇬🇧

The Talk Box is so underused. It’s like a combination of vocals, breaths, tied into the guitar as well, it really is an amazing effect. David used it on the Animals album back in the 70s (Dogs I’m thinking?) and I think this the only other song he’s used it on but I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong
