    Having trouble with this, can't believe that I have found your channel , making tutorials for a game which was made in 2003. Keep up the good work!

    I actually stumbled onto this video because when I was playing Jedi Outcast on PC, I tried bunnyhopping (strafe jumping, as this man calls it) like I would in CS:1.6 or CS:GO. It worked, and I was soon speedrunning levels I'd never played before. I simply wanted to see if anyone else had picked up on it. And yes, bhopping originated in Quake. Great video, man. Good explanation. I'd love to see you try some movement things in Counterstrike!

      I like it as long as I don't have to use my scroll wheel 😃 there are some bhop servers which have scripts for jump buffering and I have liked those. Glad you enjoyed the video

    Is there a reason why Academy's bhopping was effectively nerfed over Outcasts? It's not like Outcast had an epidemic of mapbreaking at launch.

      Really good question, especially knowing that in MP there's no cap to speed gain once you touch the ground like there is in SP. As in, you can continue building speed indefinitely in JKA MP sort of like Outcast SP i reckon

    that's a pretty cool explanation! If we land on enemies, can we use the eboosting effect?

    Why is this so difficult to do on console. Jedi outcast for some reason is easier to do this with.

    Do you happen to know if this works on console ports?

      Yes it does

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jedibongrip no, it 100% doesn't,and I can give you a dissertation on why. Porting is the short version. You can't speed run this on console. Period.
      If u think I'm wrong, show me someone doing it.

    • @jedibongrip
      @jedibongrip 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iami3rian394 The port is fucked up, definitely. Strafe jumping is inherent in the actual Quake3 engine of the game. It's not removed from the ports. Strafe jumping is 100000% doable in SP and MP. You probably just need to practice strafe jumping with analog sticks. My first recommendation would be to rebind the jump button from X to a trigger or bumper, because it's hard to gradually move the camera without stopping and hold X at the same time.
      I literally climbed A-Mountain and B-Mountain strafe course on PC using a PS4 controller in this way, and I can go plug the same controller into my PS4 and strafe around all the maps on PS4 JKA all the same. I'm not making a video for you. It's literally inherent in the game engine and while Aspyr shit up a lot of stuff about the port, they didn't touch the engine the game runs on.

    • @jedibongrip
      @jedibongrip 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      by the way, speedrunning this on console isn't competitively viable, you can't match a mouse's movement ever tbh, but you absolutely can strafe jump

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jedibongrip if you're telling me you're right I'm not doubting you. I've just heard everywhere, fro everyone, and on every platform that it's not possible, because the quake engine is ported to consoles differently.
      I spent like six hours trying, and I have no issues doing it on original hardware... but if you're telling me they you're right, despite everything I've seen, read, watched and tried, I'm obviously the one in the wrong, and I'll give it another six hours.
      So you know how simple jumping from a slightly higher platform is, or do you maybe not fully understand how the entire things works?
      But no. You're right, and I'm wrong, and so I'd every article, video, written guide, and my own experience. My bad.

    Just found this video, I noticed the strafing resets while playing today. Reallllly appreciate how well you explained this stuff, do you still run this game? and if so how hard is it to get into the speedrun?

      @Sandlund93 ปีที่แล้ว

      It matters in speedrunning categories that don't allow cheats. Come to think of it, I don't think any of them do. So if you incorporate cheats it becomes an unofficial challenge for lols. I bet most speedrunners play around with that whenever they need a break from whatever they are currently attempting on the official categories. If they are lucky, some cheats will even spark their imagination for experimenting on a legit run.
