    superb video
    I sucked at saber fighting back in 2005 when the game was new 😂

      haha thanks! I spent soooo much time in JK2 multiplayer just doing saber mechanics for the purpose of 1v1 dueling. Absolutely love how insanely complex it gets really really quickly!

      best lightsaber duel system by far!

      these unintentional technicalities that people find in games always make them exponentially funnier to play, no exceptions!

      Everyone sucks at saber fighting in this game until they realize that saberstaff is garbage and strong style is king.

    I found the Saber Staff effective enough for most of the game, but I got outright stuck at Alora on Taspir with the Saber Staff, where I had killed her first try with a single blade. Really weird.

    • @CovertMuffin1
      @CovertMuffin1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah so the way the saberstaff functions is all of it's attacks are directed to the center of the opponent, which turns out to be really bad for killing things fast in this game. The AI of the NPCs functions to try and both attack but damage block a TON for a "realistic" lightsaber combat feel; because of this front-central body focused attacks have a really high probability of having their damage blocked (you'll see white sparks and hear a certain audio). Also the crouch + W combat maneuver where Jaden's spins the saber really fast does a ton of damage, but once again either damage blocking because front-central attack or you'll proc unfavorable enemy AI (very likely) where they jump around or run away from you.
      The way to combat this is either dual sabers because of the outward->in focus of the attacks for the crouch + w combat maneuver (easiest to use so probably best if people are unfamiliar) or using vertical red on single saber because you can quick draw giving the AI less time to react and also it has a higher parry value than the majority of attacks/styles so you can cut through their saber or cause them to be stunned preventing damage blocking ez pz

    The Firebrand hilt is the only hilt you can use in this game that doesn’t look like it’ll cut into your hands.

    So the Red, Yellow and Blue are like Nioh's Stances? I want this game now, I love sword fighting games with Stance selection.

    • @CovertMuffin1
      @CovertMuffin1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kind of, but they are not really alike at all. I imagine Nioh based a lot of the "weight" of its styles off of the concept brought in by the developers of these Jedi Knight games, but they are very different. DEFINITELY worth looking into the games!!
      JKA/JKO have a much more complex system where the attacking directions are based off of WASD directional inputs, and the game actively tracks what makes up for the next follow up direction. ie. Swing the saber to the left it is clear that swinging the saber to the right would be the next logical step. Except the heavy style, which is too heavy to be able to alter the direction in that way, so repeated same horizontal/vertical direction is best. Beyond that paragraph, I could write 10 pages on various things that are effective and how to utilize single saber combat.

      @@CovertMuffin1 I actually got the game and I can tell I will probably utilize them all in a fight. :D

    • @CovertMuffin1
      @CovertMuffin1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah so if you are looking for Multiplayer stuff, a lot of the things in this video don't work, especially the force speed and quick draw stuff. The entire discussion of turning is incredibly important if you want to work on something, but I have no idea how that would transfer to a dual-analog style of play, would be very weird for me to think about haha

    • @SomeRandomGuyPlaying
      @SomeRandomGuyPlaying 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CovertMuffin1 your overlay for the mouse in the video is actually very similar to how the right analog would have to move on console, but as long as we put our sensitivity to max to wiggle the same way :)
      WASD is the same as left stick but an interesting benefit is being able to angle the stick slightly forward while doing horizontal swipes allow us to have a slight forward momentum even in the moments we initiate a horizontal swipe. This is mainly because the stick has access to all 360 degrees of control.
      That being said, dual analog requires a vast amount of effort to do the same as kb+m

    • @CovertMuffin1
      @CovertMuffin1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      because it's gross hahaha To be completely honest it's a meme in the community where we joke about Firebrand be the best/worst and red lightsaber being OP even though the effects are purely cosmetic.

    How do you change your sabers?

    • @CovertMuffin1
      @CovertMuffin1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between styles? So I run single saber and you only really need heavy style once you get that t2 missions starting with Vjun2 and on unless you are doing some meme strats or movement tech. Beyond that for dual sabers you only ever have them activated unless you are doing a movement glitch and saber staff we don't use due to the central damage of the weapon which is not very effective vs NPCs for quick kills.
