    LOVE the pistol storage dude! some of my launches are in sketchy areas so i definitely agree its a good thing to have with you. especially when you pull a fancy kayak with sonar and all kinds of tech goodies attached out of the water at dusk

    Hey man, nice rig. Bout time someone put an extensive review on this thing. I picked up one in January and just got It out for the first time 2 weeks ago ( I live in maryland). I Have 2 Ascends which are awesome. ..but not even close to this beast. Big guy, big yak, now I just need to add some big smallies. Thanks for the review, and may your lines be forever tight.

    Great video review! I've had a Big Rig for a year now and LOVE it! I bought it because I wanted to take it into saltwater. Although I haven't had the chance to go to the beach, I've taken it to fresh water lakes and it is ultra stable dealing with the wakes of boats! My only complaint is that is pretty damn heavy when I have to load and unload it by myself. With that said, I would rather deal with the weight than to have a kayak that I couldn't stand up in comfortably in rougher waters. The features this yak has are fantastic!

    Hello just a thought at 5:25 into your video I noticed the extra cable hanging there. Here is an idea run a bungee cord from the inside of the hole you made to the cable so it will pull the slack back when not needed. Use your imagination, I did this when hooking my transducer to my trolling motor and it got rid of the slack wire when I pull it up for storage..

    Hey Kevin, great rig! Probably too late,but why didn't u use a transducer arm? You would just add it on the gear track. U probably wouldn't need to do all that work. Also a pro of this is when ur going through muck or rocks or brush u can just lift it up and prevent damaging. I'm just wondering, and u probably have your reasons y u mounted it that way. Anyways, great setup u got there.

    • @KevinBullington
      @KevinBullington  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question Marvin. I went with the scupper mounted transducer because I wanted a clean and seamless install and I wanted to avoid an install that looked "temporary". There are pros and cons to both installs but the scupper mounted install suited my needs a little bit better. Plus, Jackson's front scupper is recessed underneath so it's very flush and I don't have to concern myself with low draft situations. It's pretty slick if you see it in person. ;)

    Kevin,
    Great job in reviewing your Big Rig. Yours is better than the factory review. My questions refer to the trailer that you selected. I've decided I need to put mine on a trailer as I intend to install the Bassyak trolling motor. Would you provide some specs on the trailer and list the modifications you made?

    I'm on the Hobie Fishing Team and I like your videos and I like the jacksons a lot........ One thing I didn't like that s that the chair is not locked in if u tipped....... I have to outback........ And I like the front part of the seat because basically cars a clamp that keeps it in but also a string....... And another thing I was wanting to know is like u said u usually keep the seat down....... In rougher water do u put the seat up...... Or is it stable enough to stand on in rough water

  • @SanJoseBassDude

    Do you ever use the side troughs for holding your rods or are they a good idea in principal but they have a good chance of damaging your rods?
    Also fantastic video and an awesome rig. Being able to store the rods on the inside of the hull, and having such a sturdy yak with it being 37" wide makes this my favorite kayak to date. I saw that they were about 1400-1500$ and the only other kayak that I think can even rival this one's features and versatility is a Hobie Pro Angler and thats like 1500$ more so Jackson really did great. Hope to upgrade to one of these sometime in the next year! Thanks for posting

    • @KevinBullington
      @KevinBullington  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks buddy! I looked at the pro angler and I'm really glad I didn't go with the PA for one reason; weight. The Big Rig's weight was definitely something I over looked and if you're not using a trailer to a dock, you WILL be in for a workout getting it to the water! Lol. And the PA is like 30# heavier! Even with the kayak cart, it can be a bear to lug around on uneven surfaces.

    • @SanJoseBassDude
      @SanJoseBassDude 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Bullington
      Oh wow you're right the angler is so much heavier than the big rig, even with a wider hull the big rig is lighter. For the kart did you custom make one out of like PVC pipe or can you buy them specifically for the big rig?

    Hey Kevin,
    Care to elaborate a little bit more on your battery/battery bag install? What battery did you use and how did you go about that?
    Also curious on the fish finder install. You said you had to mod the through hull transducer to get it to fit so snug...what all did that entail?
    I just got my big rig and am going to install my 5hdi just like you did. It's super clean and I love the way it turned out. Only
    Thing different from your boat and mine will be color and I went with a JKrate instead of the blackpack.
    Awesome video and keep up the good work. Love seeing your stuff.

    did u get a scupper cart for it, or a kayak cart of any kind, im on the fence with my Predator MX which one i wanna get, i heard the scupper karts can damage the kayak, other ppl say thats a myth if your gentle with it, and dont abuse it.

    • @KevinBullington
      @KevinBullington  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a non-scupper cart. I never used one but I've heard the same as you that they can be a liability. I can say this, I think the scupper carts are much easier to load and unload but if you take it across any uneven surfaces, you may to avoid the possibility of damaging the yak by going with the strap kind.

  • @SanJoseBassDude
    @SanJoseBassDude 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One more question, when you are transporting your kayak from the trailer to the lake do you use a cart or do you just drag it along the ground because of the replaceable scrape pad?

    • @KevinBullington

      I actually have a cart that straps on. It's pretty nice to have especially when there aren't docks near.

    I'm considering buying this kayak, but I have one concern that hopefully you can help with. I fish the upper and middle Allegheny River quite a bit, and I'm worried that this kayak is a bit too wide and heavy to allow for paddling back upstream to hit a hot spot a second or third time. Have you had any issues with this?

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

    How do you load the kayak on the trailer?

    • @KevinBullington
      @KevinBullington  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where I'm coming from. If I'm coming off a dock/boat ramp, then I'll just back up to the water's edge and lift the front of the yak and set it on the rear of the trailer. Then I'll push it up onto a couple of foam pads I have glued to the wood of the trailer. If I'm coming off a pond, then I load it on a cart the move the yak to the trailer and do the same thing.

    Very nice detailed walkthrough.. thanks for posting this. I am trying to decide between the Big Rig and the OK Big Game Prowler II. Stability for standing is my main goal. The only issues with the Big Rig vs the OK are 20 lbs heavier and $500 more.. ugh. Pain to load this w/out a trailer.. After your walkthrough however, I'm leaning more towards the Big Rig ... just need some more cash. Go Fund Me .. its for a good cause..

    • @KevinBullington
      @KevinBullington  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey buddy, this yak is one of the most stable available. Your son may benefit from a smaller yak though. I'm thinking maybe a Jackson Coosa or a Jackson Cuda 12. Both stable platforms but lighter and more maneuverable than the Big Rig.

      Hey man, I know you want a sit inside but that is a bad move if you want to float on choppy rivers.....if you flip it just fills with water. If I was you I would get a heritage redfish 12.

    • @HIMEESE
      @HIMEESE 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      true! But I never flipped, pretty stable,unless you do something really stupid! Mine was in class 2 rapids, fine when you have a spray skirt, no water gets inside,besides having a electric bilge installed ain't a problem and a hand bilge for back up.
      There are pro's and cons for both. I prefer a sink over a sot as it is all weather. Rather be protected from the elements and not get wet while on a winter's day. I can do anything in a sink what you can do with a sot. Just have to use your head and improvise. Every one to their own likes keep in mind. I am not mocking anything just my preference as you have yours.
      Happy yak'n and keep your lines tight brother. :)

    Whats with the pistol? Are you living in a very very dangerous part of the world or something?

      +SantianoBe is that a serious question?

      +Kevin Bullington Haha, yeah, it is. I could understand if your a cop or someone that need protection from something/someone. Otherwise I just dont get it. But I should mention that Im not from America. Culture difference perhaps.
      On a different note, its a good video. Im considering buying this or a "FeelFree Lure 11.5". Had any experience with that one?

      "why do you need a handgun??"
      Are you seriously asking that??!! No responsible human being EVER hopes to need one, but it's our God given right to protect ourselves, should the situation present itself! PERIOD!

    Safer to carry that pistol in the front pocket of your life vest .

      Not really that gets in the way and are you zipping up that pocket or leaving it lose? Don't need that pistol falling out of that pocket by accident. So where he has it is a very safe and a reliable spot.

      Well in my case I don't use that pocket except to house my pistol and my pistol is never separated from me if I should go into the drink and or lose the boat its still with me. even getting out the boat to take a break it is concealed and safe. Its not like im in Compton but some places have called for the pocket to be unzipped while me and a guy with an angry voice wanted to have a conversation with me. The conversation abruptly ended...I know not why.

      The strap from the seat keeps it from falling out
