The interesting thing is that there are some Innies that have allied with the UNSC for survival against the Covenant, I also heard that most of the insurrectionists were wiped out by the Covenant when most of the outer colonies were lost. There is one member of Captain Cutter's crew on the Spirit of fire who was member of the insurrection at some point but she put that aside and joined the UNSC to fight the Covenant and apparently she has great respect for the Captain and sees all the other crew members as family. Very touching indeed.
A lot of insurrectionists activity in general really died down when humanity was fighting for it's very survival as a species but once the war with the covenant ended the insurrectionists cells began to reappear all over human controlled space again. I've been playing the Master Chief Collection again as well as Halo Infinite and it's been a fun experience. I've been a huge fan of Halo since I was seven years old back in 2005 and I love the lore, the different factions, the characters and the music. But there is something special about Halo, I also really like the Anime Halo Legends, I've read Halo: The Fall of Reach and I plan to read more books like The Flood or First Strike or Contact Harvest.

Even if the UNSC gives the colonies their territory and their independence, there are so many different rebels groups all across the galaxy that in fighting would replace the war. Imagine a Halo game where you control an insurrectionist cell. You’re fighting a UNSC garrison and winning for the most part. Then all of a sudden, the Covenant invaded and drives you back. It’s not until you decide to parley with the remaining unsc forces on the planet to push them back together. I think it would be a good game. We never really got much of point of view from the Insurrectionists and can still keep the elements of the hostile covenant nearby.
A lot of people want a Halo game where you play as a marine. Be it fighting the flood, covenant, or the insurrectionists. I think it could be a very well done game if it was thought out correctly. Maybe give us a game about the battle of Eridanus II or maybe make contact harvest a game. There's a lot of potential when it comes to using the insurrectionists for a Halo game IMO
I think it's crazy that when you consider the scale of the Halo Universe, even these 'minor' and unexplored parts of the lore still involve millions of people and hundreds of thousands of deaths. I really hope we eventually get a game about the events of the Insurrectionist Wars.

I never understood why they made Spartans to be the ultimate weapon against insurrectionists when they could have just had ODSTs take that role. I just feel like it would make more sense to make Spartans because humanity is about to be totally destroyed, not because it is in a civil war. That said, I'd like to see a Halo game where you fight the insurrectionists as a Marine, then try to upgrade to ODST to get better at fighting, but during your first engagement with insurrecrionist forces as a Marine turned ODST, the Covenant attack and rout both UNSC and Insurrectionist forces. The only way for the remaining ODSTs to survive would be to ally with insurrectionists. The final level could be the ODSTs and Innies trying and failing to hold off the covenant together to buy time for civvies to escape planet. At the last moment, the player hears a strange new radio transmission. "This is Sierra 117 to any UNSC forces...". I think it'd be cool to Spartans fighting alongside ODSTs, but as the human being assisted by the super soldier this time. Really see how much more powerful the Spartans are against the covenant.
