Oh I did I absolutely love gemstones and I think the people who create such timeless works of art are not given enough credit for their gifts. Gemstones are the earth in its purest form! A masterpiece of time, random chemistry, and great powers of heat and pressure. Gem cutters take that perfect piece of earth and set it free to be the beautiful piece art that it is and it will last forever! It's just amazing once you think about it. Each gem you cut has the ability to exist as long as this planet (or longer) will with so many lives getting to enjoy its beauty through out time. Do you sell finished stones? I just have to ask sorry.

Hello, Lovely video showing the process and attractive result. There were some aspects of the process I imagined incorrectly (making the girdle) and others I'd wondered about (the transfers and centering).
When faceting various minerals are the facet angles adjusted to match the various index of refraction values? So is a round brilliant zircon faceted with different angles than a diamond?

    • @VintageTimeGems
      @VintageTimeGems  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Paul Cooper Yes the angles are changed to the refractive index of the particular gem in question. Diamond has a high refractive index so most angles work. Thats why most diamonds are usually cut to weight.

thats really pretty. I just wish some of these tools didn't cost so much. There is so much creating I want to do... but it takes so much.

Lovely. I cut my first gem this evening. Safe to say I have practice to be had.

+Ian Jennings Stick with it Ian. Messing up is all part of the learning process. I remember that the first couple of months I didn't have clue what was going on (especially with polishing). Joining a gem club and having a experienced faceter teaching you is well worth it. Cheers

I’m teaching myself. Also been needing to build most of my faceting machine. Luckily I’m a machinist and it comes naturally. Thank you for the kind words!

Vintage Time I was wondering do you have any pricing for a wedding ring made like this? I so want to use natural stone in my ring. I know Diamonds are natural but I so love crystals and want the stone in my wedding ring. Exactly like how this was done or something similar. If u have a website or can send me some info that would be great. Thank you again for sharing and again wonderful video.

That really answered a lot of questions I didn't even know I had. Amazing how much of the original material is abraded away to get the final product. No wonder a gem-cut diamond is so expensive after seeing this.

Well diamonds would be cut for less loss, quartz not a huge concern, I imagine; and diamonds are faceted even when they're microscopic, a tiny quartz would be a waste of time to do all that work for.

looks like a diamond to me.
you could probably sell those for quite the cash.
    also very shiny!

Quartz and other gems are my favorite. I will choose quartz over diamonds any day

Quartz is a very under rated material. Faceted well it looks great.

Thank you for that process, I had no idea that the girdle was first to
Be faceted. It really helps my brain to see the order of things.
Nice job on the video also, well presented, without all the chatter
Of someone’s knowledge interrupting the wonderful process. Really
    Learned a lot!!!
