Rig Veda 7.36.6 - “Coming together, glorious, loudly roaring - Sarasvati, Mother of Floods, the seventh - with copious milk, with fair streams, strongly flowing, full swelling with the volume of their water;”- This verse is for the Saraswati river in the RigVeda. Can I have your thoughts pls.

    *Lion River,The Indus*
Ustad g, cha gai hain aap. The river Indus is the life line of Pakistan. My home town is located at the base of Suleiman Mountain. The river is 10 or 20 kms wide. I remember in 80s, at narrow places we had boat bridge on Indus. Later on in my tourism job, I have traveled in the river Indus for 35 days boat expedition. I was part of Indus blind dolpphin survey 2006 with Gill Broulick. Sir, you are awesome and amazing in history. Salute

Thank you Ashfaq. I remember Jill (I think she spelled her name this way). She was with us on the Jan 2001 Indus Rafting Expedition. Aftab Rana was the leader. But because of very thick fog, we had to abandon at Chashma.

Sindhu must have been so awesome back then that it warranted this from the awestruck Rig-Vedic poet:
When the streams of rain pour down thund'ering from cloud,
the Sindhu onwards rushes like a bellowing bull.

Thanks a lot Salman sb for enlightening people. I am a humble student of sanskrit ( and Latin as well) in SOAS UoL.few humble additions:
Sanskrit belongs to indic ( prev called indoaryan) branch of Indo Iranian family. The Iranian counterpart to sanskrit was avestan which is very very similar to sanskrit with some vowel changes and especially -s-to H..the third branch may be most interesting to you. Its nooristani from North Afghanistan and so called Kafir languages and now a branch in itself. It is believed that proto Indo Iranian people are identified with sintashta and early andronovo culture in area between southern ural and tian shan mountains by the end if 3rd millennium BC
Interestingly one cuneiform tablet from akkad shows the name of one ili-sabtu who was interpreter of Meluhan language .
    Regards
    Adnan khan

@Adnan Khan Thank you very much. Professor Shackle was very kind to me back in 2000 and again in 2006. Having known Dani in Pakistan, I could not help but compare the two. Prof Shackle was a towering figure, Dani but a pygmy.

sir , have you read the inscription in naqsh-e-rostam? In that the word for “khshayathiya khshayathiyanam” is used for shahenshah, doesn’t Avestan language hold canny resemblance to the Sanskrit language, in this case “Kshatriya”. Even words like "arsahya pucha, Ariya, Ariya" for darayavus. That inscription is so fascinating.
On a different note, It is so unfortunate to not be able to see the origin and confluence of Sindhu and Ganga to the ocean freely anymore. We use this chant before a snaan “gange cha yamune chaiva godAvarI saraswatI
narmadA sindhu kAverI jalesmin sannidham kuru”.
Some day I hope our ppl will be smart enough, and these rivers will still be there , we could find some peace on their banks.

    • @azk7838
      @azk7838 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Very true. Avestan is almost 90percent sanskrit. Even vowel gradation rules of guna and vridhi are same.the main differenc from sanskrit is lack of long e and o and preservation of dipthongs like ai and au..so Av daeuua is sanskrit deva .gaaus-cow in avestan is Gaus in skt.
And also s to H change. As rautah - stream Av to srotas skt.soma to homa and obviously sindhu and Hindu.
      Adnan

@@azk7838 Thanks Adnan. will read more on it. Modern spoken farsi although derivation of the ancient one, sounds different, but if written we can still make out the underlying structural similarities.
One other doubt I had, did the adoption of the Arabic script lead to the loss or gain of some complex original consonants in Farsi? like in Indic languages when consonants like "pra", "ksha", "tra" etc are written in the nastaliq script ,its not entirely the same , as some of my acquaintances have told me.

@Adnan Khan that is a great explanation / inference to ponder upon . Yes have observed the Z to J switch in the naqsh-e-Rostam inscription too , the word “vazrakaya” seems really similar to “vajrakaya” meaning “strong as a vajra/ strong” in a way In Sanskrit.
Respect and thanks for such a detailed answer.

No conclusive proof whether they came here or we went there.
