    I think what makes Matt B differ from the the rest of the all time guitarist list (which I don’t think he makes many) is his vocal range, his arrangements in his songs, his piano playing, and his ability to shred and destroy the vocals. Just an incredible musician. I don’t many that can do the things he can do.

    Respect the musicianship, innovation of effects and composition. His lyrics are deep along with the development of style and artistry. (Yet he cannot read music despite playing guitar and piano to a high level.) He seems to be a British form of Prince. Genius!! Sum of the whole greater than the parts. Trio-blasting!

    I maybe mistaken but I watched some video's about the entourage that makes up the Muse Road Crew...it's huge with some 46 Semi's plus Sleeper Busses for everyone including MUSE as the lads go with the crew from show to show as a complete bandwagon.
    At the venue the Crew start by building the set whilst the lads get practising and I am certain that the production and arrangements are done by the lads themselves! They have been doing this for quiet sometime.
    Seriously, you really ought to watch these videos, it's a real eye opener. MUSE are hands on everywhere with everything unlike most groups.

    This was interesting and well done but I do not see how you can rate him in the top 10 guitar players in the world. Do not see him better than randy Rhodes ans many other players. Mark knoffler rush Iron Maiden John Mayer Daryl trucks and many more.
    Not really a fan of tapping seems like cheating to me compared to flat pickers. Different genre but Joni Mitchel? Carlos Santana. Zach Brown.
    First time hearing Muse. Great band enjoyed the guitar work but to me would be rated as a top ten guitar player.
    Cheers

      @TheThamesmen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. Not sure we were thinking if top ten. Just ten guitar gods as was a round number to pick for that project! Have been adding other videos to the playlist since and will keep doing so!

      It's a fair point but then how do people rate any guitar player - technique? speed? creativity? It's a very subjective thing. I've seen metal guitarists on youtube who can shred at lightning speed and their talent is unquestioned, but after 10 mins listening to it I'm bored. Equally there are classical guitarists who can expertly mimic the vocal and melody arrangements of an existing song on guitar but struggle to come up with anything new. So I think everyone's top 10 list will be very influenced by what they've listened to and the type of music they're into. I listen to a lot of Queen so Brian May - for example - is high in my list because so much of his guitar work was creative and memorable and influential, even though he may lack the overall speed and technical ability of someone like Gary Moore. Matt Bellamy from Muse (who are ironically very Queen-inspired) occupies a similar position because he uses the guitar as a musical tool to do really creative and different stuff rather than just mimick guitar techniques we've heard before. It doesn't at all detract from the Joni Mitchel's and Zack Browns of this world, but just shows that guitar skillsets are a combination of a huge number of different factors and not easily quantified into a numerical list of who's better.

      We have similar thinking. Matt is definitely not the fastest, he's not even a shredder, but as a guitar player + songwriter + riff maker + solo maker, he is definitely one of the best. I dare say not many guitar players from rock & metal bands currently, that can even challenge Matt in that respects. Brian May is in the same category as Matt too.
      Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Brian May, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Matt Bellamy...
