The pedal Matt uses is connected to lots of pedals back stage (it is an Ernie Ball Expression Pedal) he can flick between sounds and pedals using the Line-6 helix (I believe) and it means he has a cleaner and easier to use layout. So it means he can change the purpose of the pedal with the press of a button, so he can raise pitch, lower pitch, change volume, add Reverb etc etc and he only needs two main pedals to do so. And considering some of his guitars have pedals built in, he doesn't need a mess of pedals on the floor. It's very very clever. In newer shows he sometimes uses effects that come on through timers and beats so Matt can run around and not worry about changing effects, it's all done back stage. It's another reason Muse is so loved, they have taken the idea of the guitar and brought it to the year 2100, nobody uses guitars like Matt does, even Chris' basses are a marvel

Thank you, I couldn't remember the term for expression pedal, he does use effects to achieve cool and unique sounds. You might check out David Torn, Adrian Belew, Eivind Aarset, Steve Tibbets and Nels Cline to name a few that use effects creatively. thanks for watching.

Chris played Drums in another band... He was asked to join Muse But they wanted him to take bass lessons... He took them right away and he has always been my favorite member of Muse with his bass lines... I remember When he played Glastonbury 2004 Paul McCartney Was Watching him play backstage and told him he was GREAT when the set was done. I think he was made to play BASS!!

Matt uses a floor board MIDI pedal to control his rack backstage 😊 no multi fx is on stage, just midi pedal board and expression pedal

@@GuitarSoloReactions Cool! Looking forward to see it. I was speaking of Knights of Cydonia rhythm after the second chorus.

Could be a pitch shifting pedal similar to the whammy.
