      @@olsonsspeedshop1875 yea, well thank you. Just to the point. No 'look at me' or ' I got this going for me'. Just common sense to the freggin point, this is how it's done, how you do it and or this or that. Priceless. Your are one of the few left in an upside down world my friend. And I consider myself fortunate. Hear hear

    Thank you. Long story short: I have a '62 Cadillac 390 engine that has some pretty dismal results. Your video helped a lot!

    Yes I have an OTC leak down gauge just like yours, and I'm not sure if it is because I'm not onTDC or if I have a bad leak like you have. I also put a ballon on the leak-down hose and crank the engine; the balloon blue up and emptied real fast.

    I built a 357 sbc with pro max aluminum heads for my Chevy II. I have a thumping noise in the coolant and heater hoses. I have tried changing the thermostat and burping the engine with no luck. Next step might be the leak down test to check for combustion in the coolant system. Any thoughts? Thanks man!

    try using Lucas transmission fluid additive, it is tacky and thick and it sticks to the cylinder walls and piston rings or Lucas engine oil additive.

    My engine only shakes after warming up. Can someone tell me what it might be? I know there are some smart people here. The vehicle barley moves when pressing the gas, smoke or steam coming out of the exhaust pipe, etc. The water pump went bad and I replaced it. I think I had a blown head gasket. I used gasket sealer and the smoke reduced almost completely but when I first turn the vehicle on a puff of smoke comes out. No check engine light. The temperature guage does not go up enough when my scan tool shows a much higher temperature. The engine is knocking. When I remove the upstream oxygen sensors I hear something like clunking or air quickly releasing from the exhaust valve when it shouldn't, on the side that shakes the most. I would really appreciate advice, suggestions, etc. Thank you.

    So if you don't have a breather sticking out like your engine how would you do test for rings?

    • @olsonsspeedshop1875
      @olsonsspeedshop1875  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can pull off your oil cap and listen and feel for air blowing. That will tell you if your having a lot of blowby into your crankcase.

      @@olsonsspeedshop1875 So if the valve covers are off put them back on?

    • @olsonsspeedshop1875
      @olsonsspeedshop1875  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I think you’ll be able to hear it coming from the drain holes in the heads for the oil. Remember you will always have some blow by so don’t worry a ton about that but it shouldn’t be excessive. If you don’t hear a lot out of your carb/intake or your exhaust, it will be rings. What engine are you testing?

    so looking on ebay pistons were only about 130 machine work where I live is about 400, if you do a stockish rebuild even with machine work you might do it for 1000-1500 if your lucky

    • @olsonsspeedshop1875
      @olsonsspeedshop1875  ปีที่แล้ว

      It will only tell you if you have bad rings, bad head gasket or bad valves. As far as bearings and such, it won’t help.

    Don’t the rockers have to be loosened to where both valves are shut?

    • @olsonsspeedshop1875

      No. When your TDC, both valves are closed.

      Heay your motor did better than mine , I set it at 100 , it was reading 20 on the other gauge ..its a old kohler 26.5 hp horizontal shaft , both cylinders, one is intake valves the other is exhuast , nothing from the oil pan - rings ..I consider that lucky if that's the case ..

    Comment isn’t saving for some reason. Try again, Here is the formula from my site if you can’t get 100 psi out of your compressor th-cam.com/video/898YrshRmTU/w-d-xo.html I also made my own leakdown tester. Just remember you need a 0.040 orifice hole in the middle of the 2 gauges. I just fill the male to male fitting with JB Weld then drilled my hole. The bit is available at your local hobby store where you buy models.
