    I'm good with standard fantasy, it doesn't get tired for me if it is presented well and in an engaging manner. Sure, there can always be more races/classes but more than that I wish Michael would flesh out the world more - especially in random events while abroad and exploring the world. And I want to feel the different locales more; it would very much fit into the immersion of making separate random events/encounters for different parts of the Kingdom to make them feel different from each other.

    Hey Bro. I used to subscribe after the Flamecraft campaign, but the Chewing noise at the beginning of every one of your videos makes me feel like I'm going to throw up so I only pop in for the occasional video and desperately try to skip past that section every time.
    It occurred to me today that maybe you just weren't aware that noise is so actively off-putting to some people. It's not an uncommon thing either. According to Google, up to 18% of the population suffer from misophonia, or an increased intolerance to certain sounds such as a person chewing. I think you might be cutting down on your potential reach with that intro sound. Just a thought.

    Wow, there idea of having goblins and orcs etc. as player character and the possibility of humans, elves and dwarfs as enemy characters really opens up the story possibilities in sandbox game such as this. Really shouldn't be that hard to implement either.

    This is completely apples-to-oranges, but I'm torn between this and Barnalcle Bay LaCluck's Revenge. The latter is waaaay more simple in terms of mechanics and, relatively, seems to be much more on rails (you can pick and choose at certain points, but in Dungeoneers you can literally go anywhere it seems). Completely different games though.

    I would say go ahead and play your goblin, but then he needs to suffer the consequences of being that character. Go into a town and get attacked. No town would let an evil goblin in their town.

    • @HungryGamerReviews
      @HungryGamerReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hence my point. I am personally tired of the evil races trope. I do not think it adds to a world. Even in the game pretty much all of the bandits are humans, but they can just roll on into town?
      Don't get me wrong, I understand the trope, I just think it makes for a less interesting world.

    • @AlarianDarkwind
      @AlarianDarkwind ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HungryGamerReviews I think you need to have "evil races" in games, otherwise every encounter turns into trying to determine if these are good guys or bad guys before attacking. Do they need to be the standard evil races? Not really, but I think it makes it easier for many to be able to just say "I see goblins, they are the bad guys" vs do we wait until they attack us before we attack them. Towns and villages would be the same. A large group of goblins are approaching the town, are they good or bad? I guess we will wait until they are inside the village walls and see if they attack before we decide. Just my opinion of course 🙂

    Looks like oldschool dungeon crawler with a lot of fiddlieness, terrible unmitigated randomness and no interesting tactical decisions when everything boils down to how well you roll d100. Not very modern. Like DUN but even worse. Am i wrong?

      @@HungryGamerReviews what is negative for me doesn't have to be for others. I was just making sure I'm right as I love dungeon crawlers, but to get another one it needs to do something new and exciting. I don't like high randomness (which is always the case with d100 systems) and love tactical choices. This game gest some attention so I wanted to ask someone who has played it that my concerns are real and I shluld look at some other games this time.

    • @j3errym
      @j3errym ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are wrong on mitigation and tactical choices. LoD has plenty of skill, abilities, level bonuses items, buffs, healing, height, terrain, character combos etc to mitigate, defence, damage and hit percentage.
      d100 make that easier to assess, 2 x 10 sided dice, 1 for units 1 for 10s provides a linear result compared to multiple summed dice that have a bell curve distribution, which by it's nature reduces effectiveness of modifiers and would produce more swingy results e.g. 2 x d6 will land on 7 ~17%, 2 ~3%, 12~3%.
      Not sure what you mean by modern, some Euros have zero luck, which make each turn a point maximising puzzle, often with little chance of recovering from mistakes, like a chess but most have some luck.
      Skirmish/adventure games like LoD have calculated risk represented by dice, card/chit draws. Gloomhaven's card draws can and does produce swingy results.
      Personally I like that for skirmish style you have say a 40% chance you can mitigate to a 70% chance.
      I would recommend good quality gamescience or similar dice those approaching casino quality, many mass produced dice will be biased towards certain faces.

    • @KniaziuM
      @KniaziuM ปีที่แล้ว

      @@j3errym I don't like high randomness in heavy, fiddly games. LoD seems to me much better than DUN or Darkest Dungeon, but still very oldfashioned. I like games that are either fast and fun, or heavy but brain heavy. Gloomhaven is good example as you usually have one miss in deck and can mitigate it with advantages or items. I love Bloodborne The Board Game without dices or hit modifier deck.
      I'm just not interested in games that are made for fans of Warhammer Quest or D&D. This one seems to fit this description. I prefer games that are trying something new like two already mentioned, or Tidal Blades 2, Primal The Awakening, Nanolith, Okko Chronicles etc. My comment was to make sure if I have missed anything, but seems I didn't. I'm not calling it a bad game, just "not for me" game.

    • @j3errym
      @j3errym ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KniaziuM I got that you were not calling it bad. It's always subjective the amount of risk/randomness. As a design Engineer - zero random ness in my professional life but customers and suppliers tend to spoil that. The rest of my life tends to have risk and randomness like most peoples, especially parents. For gaming I am reasonably tolerant as long as it's not all random and luck, I find LoD a fun journey and if you invest the time to level up luck becomes a distant second to strategic and tactical choices. Plan to mitigate bad luck and capitalise on good luck is a good business and game strategy. Tl;dr too much control in job means I enjoy escaping to a chaotic, adventuring safe ride where I don't have to do higher maths and physics.
      Totally get the reverse will be true for others that don't or maybe do have brain burn puzzles as part of their work.
      Having said that I love Mindclash's games and generally little luck in them.

    Feel this should have been what I like about dungeon crawls rather than attach your dislikes and likes to one game in a genre that LoD is not an atypical example of. IMO from experience of the 1.63 pnp , this feels like looking for issues rather than reviewing the experiences.
    You missed the fact that characters in most fantasy games that feature levelling up start weak and then get stronger as you learn their strengths and weaknesses and improve them, 90% of what you dislike is centred on lower level characters and the balanced levels they face. The same is true of DnD, Gloomhaven etc.
    As for saying it is swingy even though mathematically it isn't, either you have rubbish dice (mass produced polished dice often have some very dodgy ones mixed in) or you only recall the rolls that fit your narrative. Maths and engineering are not subjective they are fact based.
    It sets out to be what it is, you cannot critisise it for being what it says, I did get the impression you over used old school and tropes. Maybe review it and then state what you personally would like to see or produce variant characters for it.
    I picked up that you liked and didn't like it but felt the dislikes were more what it wasn't !

    • @HungryGamerReviews
      @HungryGamerReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I understand how dungeon crawls work, and no I did not "miss" anything. Now you are welcome to disagree with me...I am down with that. Though I am not too keen to have a debate with you about it until you have played it.
      Not sure what is up with your "cannot criticize" it...yeah I can. In fact I was specifically sent the copy of the game to criticize it. The entire point of making a video is for people to understand the game, and why they may or may not like it, whether or not the game does what it sets out to do or not.
      As always I welcome people to disagree with my thoughts, but if you are going to come at me and tell me I am doing it wrong I am not interested.
      Beyond that go ahead and start your own channel and I will be the first one there to watch, but take your telling me I am doing my videos "bad/wrong" cause I have no more time for that than I have already given you.

    • @j3errym
      @j3errym ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HungryGamerReviews Played the pnp a lot and that is why I could comment on how it changes as you level up. Which is why by miss definitely felt you hadn't levelled the characters up much and so your experience was at the lower levels.
      You can comment on what you would like to see but really critisise something for being what it sets out to be, its like saying I feel this new motorcycle that is designed to be a traditional square four should be an electric powered cycle (because I prefer them) and then saying what you like about electric motors, that is fine as an opinion not so much as the focus of a review and as a criticism.
      My comments on levelling up were based on playing LoD through 1.6+ campaigns, I clearly stated I had experience playing the pnp.
      EDIT I feel that reviews are critiques looking at what they do and don't do well , normally backed up by examples etc. rather than criticisms of things they are not. You did do the critique but it seemed to be sandwiched between the other things. Semantics but I wasn't calling out your right to critique.

    • @HungryGamerReviews
      @HungryGamerReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@j3errym My experience is through level 3 characters, which is the experience most people will have for the first how ever many hours.
      I think your problem is that I am not reviewing for "you". You already know the game inside and out. This is a review for people who know nothing, but likely like dungeon crawls.
      When you (I use you in the broad sense not as in you personally) are reviewing a game like this you are not necessarily reviewing it for the person who is going to stick with it for 100 hours. You have to set it up for people's initial reaction, people will play once or twice and if they are miserable then they quit and are unhappy. You compare it to other games because LoD lives in a world of Dungeon Crawls, so that is how you set it as a responsible reviewer. Why should someone pick this over Familiar Tales? Why might they want this over Middara?
      You are welcome to not like my style, but again get out of here with this idea that I am reviewing "wrong" Go start your own channel where you go in depth into LoD, and I will be there watching and commenting. However, in this case you are CLEARLY not my target audience.
