  • Shaugh Tunnel is a historic railway tunnel located on the now disused South Devon and Tavistock Railway, nestled in the scenic Plym Valley near Plymouth, England. Built in the mid-19th century, the tunnel stretches approximately 495 metres (1,624 feet) through the rugged landscape, showcasing impressive Victorian engineering. What makes Shaugh Tunnel particularly intriguing is the presence of a hidden, smaller tunnel connected to it. This secret passage, concealed within the main tunnel, was likely used for maintenance or drainage purposes and adds an element of mystery and exploration for those who venture into the depths of the tunnel's history.

@ExploringWithConnix if you don't want to freeze then yer. This farmer did say something to me once when I was just looking. So when I came out of the tunnel recently I kicked all the silt up. To fuck with his water. He doesn't own the earth. Total tool bad. Haha.

Very cool! Il be sure to give it a watch,
Turns out it's not an adit, it's for maintenance and flood outlet

@@ExploringWithConnix I have a book that covers it that I'll have to dig out! Turns out I'm not going for a few days - there's been a sighting of a big cat in the area so I've got to move my trail cam!

There's an adit before you enter main tunnel in the bank on left as you approach...
It's usually wet and I've not been in there myself,a farmer is piped into it for drinking water for cows and doesn't like people in adit disturbing the sediment

I noticed this last time I was walking past during the day, has a stream running from it, however didn't fancy nativaging through the bushes in the dark alone 😅 perhaps next time I'm up there!

I've had a look at those. Interesting junction of 3 adits. Like you, I don't want to stir up the sediment as it's used as a water source.
