    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1952

      Patience.
      You're just in a hurry.
Claustrophobia is an anxiety based on desire to escape a situation quickly. You must know that you will be able to get out, and simply do not need to be in a hurry to do so. It's the trick for many problems.
      You're just in a hurry.

This must have been very difficult psychologically with someone in front blocking the only way out. But wow, you guys are really tough and brave, I will never do what you guys do but I find it fascinating to watch. It's because of you guys the rest of us get to see what lies under the ground without taking the risk, but I guess thats the decision we all have, to take the risks and be adventurous or just be content watching whatever video you guys present to the world. We all had to turn our headlamps off, because the leaders didnt want the kids to panic when we saw how tight it was . We were belly crawling and you could lift your head up 5 inches and your helmet would hit the top of the cave. Then one of the bigger kids up front turned his light on and everyone could see how narrow and claustraphobic is was, and he started panicing and wouldnt move, so we sat there for like 10 min. They finally got him to move and finish the course lol. What a ride!

I've watched a handful of videos about caving, and the descriptions of crawling through a space where you're forced to belly crawl have always terrified me. really just twists my stomach. normally enclosed spaces aren't a big problem for me, hell sitting in a closet is actively comforting. but it's when I can feel something pressed around my body that I just lose it. always reminds me of that time as a kid I was trying to make a snow fort, but upon realizing I'd made a tunnel I didn't fully fit through it felt like I had a damn heart attack
rambling aside, one of the things about caving that's always stuck with me is the idea of "why is this just big enough for me to fit through? why wouldn't it just be too small?"
and this video really put that feeling into perspective for me. caves like this were never made with humans in mind, but not only is it just big enough to get into - there's even this convenient little "room" that's just big enough to manage to turn around. just wild to see

That's pretty cool. There's no trick. You get in a tight situation either under your house in a cave or even in life... And the choice is to panic or stay calm. Only one of those results in the ability to make good decisions.

It’s so amazing how you get to touch and explore places that only animals and bugs have ever been in. What does it feel like when you discover a path between two caves? When all of the hard, slow work you’ve done pays off and YOU get to make that discovery? If I were a bit braver I would love to just chill inside a cave and eat lunch in there or something. It’s weirdly comforting to me-that draw to the void.

They can't really bite, more so just give a small pinch with limbs akin to crab claws. I know you're arachnophobic so it probably doesn't help a ton, but you know, any amount of comfort could be helpful to avoid a panic attack in the future lol. Hope that someday you can at least get better about this fear, even if you never overcome it entirely. Arachnophobia is bad for both the arachnids and the people who fear them. Phobias are underratedly harmful to people. They are, after all, an anxiety disorder. It's not just being 'a little scared.' It really is a mental disorder like any other.

Thanks anyway since it is all in good faith !,
Like I could watch this and be fine but yikes. Idk how to word it better x)
Dumb anecdote time : While strolling at a park with a friend, noticed she had a tiny spider in her hair (maybe a quarter of a pinky nail).
Needed like a minute just to gather the courage to remove it. Then another minute to stop shaking.
While joking and 100% aware about it.
(Most definitely a coping mechanism attempt)
It's like a reflex thing where im hardwired that "see 8 legs thing = FIGHT OR FLIGHT".
And not specifically spiders : managed to jumpscare and almost drop my phone seeing a cat sitting on a weird chair/couch thing where it really looked like a spider face to face view.
It isn't even based on a "they are dangerous" assumption but really that as soon as my mind recognizes the shape, it goes into fight/flight/panic mode.
