    • @donellmuniz590
      @donellmuniz590 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's actually not a mid-block, it's a bona fide big block, with unfortunately small bores (usually 4.0 to 4.05), except for the 428 (4.13) and 427 (4.23, if I remember right). The only "mid block" Fords are the 351M (an unholy 400 block with a 351 crank) and 400. They're really just tall deck, 2V Clevelands.

      @@Cuttyman9 I've seen several 434-ish FEs on tv, You Tube, magazines, etc. That's a darned good size. A 427 block with 428 crank makes a 454, but good luck finding a 427 block (for under 2 grand). Beyond 434, finding big enough heads would be an issue, but that's what boost is for, lol.

    • @Cuttyman9
      @Cuttyman9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Donell Muniz compared to a 385 series it’s a mid block. Windsor’s can get to 418 on a stock block.
      The 385 series can be brought all the way out to 555 without an aftermarket block so 434 isn’t anything special but due to its large architecture it’s not really small but it’s also not really big.

    Maybe the difference between the hp curves comparing the two tunnel rammed setups was the cam difference and the Wilson work on chevy manifold ?
    Probably be fun ( and expensive ) to try a cam grind on the ford to match the chevy and send the tunnel ram ( and heads if they don't have that head data) and then see if they are much closer in power curves. I was really surprised the tunnel ram didn't make more difference from 4500 to 6k.
    Great work as usual- always pick up something.
    Wish i could pick your brain on the q16 since you used it on the chevy, also wondering if you used it with the Ford.

    Get rid of that Comp Cam and install a Crower or Clay Smith. Also put a set of ported Ford Performance Cobra Jet heads to compare it.

    BMW made a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine that put out 1400hp back in the early 80's for F1 racing. The block was from a regular car engine back in 1961 the M10.

    Good evening, Richard, all the way from West Wales, UK. I like your videos, with the accurate info and dyno results. The Ford 400M was so enlightening, because I had a 400M ( ex Lincoln ) in my 71 Mustang, which we used to do a 6 day blast through Europe, going south to Nice, Monaco, ( for the vintage Grand Prix ) and then onto the Normandy Beaches, including Juno. That is one tough engine. It was an organised run with many prizes, we got the cup for the most petrol ( gas ) used. about $1800 in 6 days !! PS, Have you ever heard of the Schlumph collection ?? We visited there for a day. Amazing.

      I don't think it would hold up to boost. The torque from boost will rip that stock bottom end apart. You would have to address that first. In these NA builds he's only hitting around 750ft-lbs, that would go way up even under mild boost, those rods might be good for it but the block likely isn't.

    Ok, I have a dumb idea and I’ll probably end up building it but wanted some help with parts selection. So my game plan is to build a stick shift drag and drive car. Being that it’s a stick shift, I’d like to limit torque some. Thinking a pro charged 429 and run all the good top end stuff off this motor. With a aluminum eleminator block and priority main oiling what rocker setup would you use and how far could I rev it ?
