Great video! I actually really like this origin story for vampires. A lot of vampire media seems to have bloodlines "just because," but the idea that necromantic sorcery wouldn't take to everyone the same way seems pretty organic to me.
It makes sense that creating vampires through magic would have a different outcome almost every time. TES for example did an excellent job of bringing vampires into their world with magic.
If I may, I would also like to introduce the Clans of Vampire: The Masquerade as another example of an organic vampiric bloodline system. To start, I shall list a few presuppositions: 1. The Blood of Caine weakens over the generations. The 1st generation being Caine, the 2nd being the direct childer of Caine, etc. 2. The Disciplines (Innate vampiric magic/powers) are tied to the Blood. Each clan has 3 Disciplines that they can access by default, additional Disciplines can actually be taught by ingesting the vitae of a vampire with that Discipline. 3. The Antediluvians, 3rd generation vampires and the founders of the Clans, took on Disciplines that reflected their capabilities, cultural background, personality and ambitions. This has been self-perpetuated by the Clans choosing to embrace people similar to the Antediluvians in those aspects. The first presupposition is the easiest to prove, as it is demonstrated by the game rules; 14th and 15th generations are the weakest, known as the Thinbloods, and not being able to wield the Disciplines as other vampires do, having their own, less potent, powers. 9th generation and below cannot raise their disciplines above 5 dots. Antediluvians, the 2nd Generation and Caine are taken to have a Discipline rank of "Yes". The second is also just found in the game rules, and doesn't require much explanation, but it does confirm that the different Clans carry different sets of powers within their Vitae, and that, more generally, the Disciplines are bound to the blood. The third supposition is more tenuous, as not much is actually known about the 2nd generation and their relationship to the 3rd, but we can trace commonalities in Disciplines to find the common ancestor. The Clans that possess the Discipline of Obfuscate all descend from Zillah, who is shown to have a fondness for hunters, seeing as two of the three Antediluvians she sired were hunters, and thus the Clans that descend from her have a particular emphasis on stealth, infiltration, sabotage and assassination. The Clans that possess the Disciplines of Potence, Dominate or Fortitude all descend from Irad, the General of Caine, with the clans resulting from those Antediluvians becoming societies of Warrior-Philosopher-Kings, evidenced by the Clans Brujah, Lasombra and Ventrue. Finally the Clans with the Auspex Discipline are descending from the first-sired member of the 2nd generation, Enoch, who favoured those with similar insight to his own, siring the more mystical of the 13 clans. To conclude, we can assume that 13 Clans of Vampire: The Masquerade were formed from a combination of cultural preferences among the founders, the link between the Disciplines and the Blood of Caine, and the dilution of the Blood over multiple generations.

Been having an idea of running a very heavy lore centered Masquerade game with influence from Conan. Imagine the goal of the campaign to hunt down ancient and forbidden lore from the Hyborian Age that predates Cain as the father of all vampires and where modern clans could have their ancient roots; like the expression a Venture would have finding their progenitor is an intelligent ape-man necromancer.
Been there and done that a few times, .. at two different gaming shops and group of players. Classic OWoD, Werewolf Apocalypse and Mage Ascension had rules for creating spirits that can posses the living/ dead and function very much like vampires. In a few games we cross Werewolf, Wraith, and Vampire Dark Ages and ran a Stone Age Egyptian campaign of the ancient Egyptian gods barely along the lines of Masquerade: Set clan mythology where all the gods were vampires. We started the game where the gods were minor Mage: Dream Speakers or Werewolf kinfolk able to cast 3rd level gifts. The legendary Atlantis was just getting their trading fishing boats going and the Egyptians were not even building fired mud brick buildings yet. The Egyptian gods were Ban spirit blood magic user vampires fighting desert spirits and werewolf monsters. At the time from the 1990's, the Werewolf books had some interesting views of Egyptians mythology. 2.) The new world of darkness came out, and I just really loved the new refine rules of Mage the Awakening. So I draw up six index cards with magic daggers/ short swords with stats on the flip side. Random roll treasure plot device in a private collection, then had a time shift and one of the vampire player's PC lost their hip/leg in combat where a witch turn the bone into a blade handle, .. random dice roll for item. Wow the dice came up as being the same blade at the start of the adventure. So the main blade/new blade got lost for 15, 000 years and when the characters return to the present, the vampire got a hold of both magic blades cause of some kind of time paradox. b.) My gaming shop house rules with stats write ups had both DC & Marvel super heroes, so .. it was a running gag where the player group had too many run ins with Marvel Wolverine. So, .. the party had a face off with Conan, Ben Grim the Thing, and Wolverine in the Hyborian Age. After having a run in with Wolverine and the Punisher, sent back in time and run into Wolverine again and fight Lovecraft monsters and came back into the present. Random die roll to who greets them in a different city where they started from, .. it was Wolverine. Sometimes the dice really don't like the players during a given day. c.) As for the Venture expression, skip the ape-man and go with a bamboo or monkey, overcompensation for small size. Being lorded over by a monkey half the human vampire body height. Have the monkey meta game all knowledge in game. d.) For my old D&D games, to break the high adventure or fast pacing we ran low pace stone age or bronze age mini games creating minor magic items such of a stone spear of fire burning or a bear fur blanket of warmth and some type of clay pot/bowel of create food, then have said item turn up a few thousand years later in the stander campaign setting. Bronze age it was clerics or minor mages tooling copper sheets for religious spell books fighting mind flayer/ illithid Lovecraft monsters. Nothing trips up players is seeing their old dead PCs corpses in forgotten tombs/temple complexes. " Flash back " time loops. Hope you had a good weekend, and have fun gaming.
I would also add the vampire plant Yothga from "The Scarlet Citadel". It fed on the lifeforce of the sorcerer Pelias while he was a prisoner of Tsotha-lanti.
Grimmly Marvelous work!! I love your Hyborian/Thurian Bestiaries!! Incredible cultural interpretation, explanation variants and lore of Vampires in the Conan Universe!
Fascinating topic, love how much research you did my friend, and love the inclusion of Bizarchives, may have to try sending in some writings I'm working on, so thanks a bunch for their links (these writings are mostly involving sword & sorcery and dark-fantasy/semi-horror)! I'm not terribly fond of the addition of Dhampyr's to the mythology of Vampires, but because it is your voice and channel I forgive that and even grew a little fonder of them. That said, the Moksha caught my eye the most, it is interesting how they starve themselves, to have prophetic visions. Also had a question; regarding the nature of Liches, as Akivasha in the Kull movie seems to be more of a demon, which is a marked contrast to her vampiric origins in the literature. Any chance you might touch upon Liches in Howard's 'Legendarium' at some point, those like Tascela from the Red Nails story?
Again, you present excellent work! I consider your content the voice of the Conan Universe. A ambassador to Howard's world as ABoarderPrince is to Warhammer and Tex of Tex Talks Battletech for...uh...Battletech.

This video was fascinating. I especially appreciate how you cited your sources individually. This allows me to sort the public domain materials from the copyrighted lore. I expect many of these sects will appear in a sourcebook of a type that I'm building for a TTRPG tactics game called Kill Sector. My little project is set in Cimeria, and the Aqueous are exactly the type of weirdness which should be a great fit into Kill Sector.
Here to rep Clan Tzimisce - Dragons forever and always. Edit: what a fascinating topic when viewed in the entirety of its weird spectrum. I’ve always loved vampire lore but Conan really pushes the concept in a way that I think only World of Darkness has managed in the current world era.

I just want to say I really enjoy these videos. I have always been drawn to Conan media for some reason. Great video again! And congrats on the Bizarchive sponsor! I personally like the Aqueos vampires probably the best as well, but I think all of them have interesting quirks. I think the origin of Varnae, being a very clever reference to the "first vampire" of fiction Varney the Vampire--being a large, hulking ape creature who becomes a vampire pretty much by accidental circumstance is probably one of the more believable origins for vampires. It'd be more interesting to me at least if Caine from V:TM was a giant ape man rather then--well, just a dude.
I am writing a book about Vampires, and the Marvel Hyborian Vampires did have an influence on me in terms of various clans of Vampires, and like Lovecraft was an influence on Howard. Cosmic Horror was a heavy influence that drove me to craft a post-apocolyptic story set in the far future where Vampires and Cosmic Horror Entities exist. The goal was to combine gothic horror with cosmic horror and mix it in with splatterpunk and extreme horror as well. The Vampires that I have written were borrowed from what I grew up on in the 90s, taken from actual folklore from various cutltures, and taken from my own imagination and blended together. The Vampires that I have crafted are visceral and in-your-face, sadistic and twisted, just pure evil Vampires are. Unlike the modern Marvel Vampires, these Vampires are not turned by a blood virus. My Vampires are made not from an infection of the blood, but an infection of the soul. I decided to change how making a vampire is different, where they don't infect their victims through bite or blood drinking. I chose something that is different and is meant to act as infecting the psychic part of the brain that infects the soul, and I have written that not everyone can become a Vampire. It depends on the psychic might of the soul. If the person has been a terrible person in life, like a Politician, a CEO, or a Psychopath. They would just die from the process, but if the person has been someone who has never harmed anyone, has spent their lives repressing and caging their darker urges, and was a victim of violent trauma. That person is a viable candidate to be converted.
The first vampire was an ape necromancer? That's so weird it's cool. I was trying to come up with some vampire lore for a setting i'm working on, nothing deep or anything, it's a more light hearted fantasy adventure setting but my original ideas don't feel nearly as creative or interesting as ape necromancers.
@@GrimDarkHalfOff The origin is eldritch vampiric space entities that devour worlds, their descendants seeding vampires on planets across the universe. I just needed an excuse for the space vampire that acts as the big bad in the story. I was thinking of Skeletor and Mumra when I came up with him.

Great video been going though the catalog of your Conan lore you’ve give me quite a few ideas for the dnd style campaign world I’m building in Conan exiles keep up the great work :)
This was really good! Are the creatures in Iron Shadows of the Moon considered Vampires? I have been plotting where they come from in my book's lore. I was thinking of a generational thing. How far removed a vampire is from their god.
Great video about the vampires in Conan there's a lot different varieties than your common vampires you know I would love to see a video about the bats demons they're kind of interesting to learn about They remind me of the red giant bats from primal. 🧛♂️ ⚰️🦇💀🩸
Ard there anything offical connected to the modern world? R.e.howard's own time are close enough to count. I suppose Chuthulu mythose would work. Still it could be cool with a story where, let's ssy Conan or even Kull slay an unnatural beast in a cave and then some modern people find some traces of the battle. Maybe an ancient skeleton of something that shouldn't be possible? Or an ancient vampire loose a battle and retreat into a cave to recover in one of those blood filled coffins/sarcophagus only to awske in the modern era when some cave explorers finds it...
Not sure if you still reply, but is there any ties too "Derketo, the Goddess of Fertility, Death, and Lust" Derketo fits in my mind perfectly to this lore.
I find the deep ones vampires just so hilariously op They all, collectively came to the conclusion that the best way to end all human life is to be a vampire fish alien thing
Aqeuos Vampires DESTROY Deep Ones with FACTS and LOGIC lol Next video is going to be Deep Ones in Conan by the way I just finished the script an hour ago!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I saw. I can’t wait Especially as the deep ones are old. Very old. Older than the serpent men, and most other races on the young earth. At least if I remember my lovecraft lore correct
One cannot help but note that Castlevania, a series very much about vampires, had 'Varney' as a major figure in the anime's fourth season. I don't think it was an intentional reference, but it's a very fun coincidence.
Where do the aqeos originally come from, publishing wise? I can only find a link to marvel comics that seems to be about vampires. But like, what series or stories do they originally come from?
Hey man. Love the new video. Really would like to donate some money. I can’t use Venmo because my stuff is frozen. Is there any other way to give you money?
Thanks, I don’t know really I’ll be working that out in the future. Thanks for the thought, I do this hobby because it helps me with self improvement. The money is only a helpful motivator :)
So I wasn’t aware of Conan pretty sure at all before I saw games it seems his comics and books are pretty much from same time of love craft and have the same feeling. That’s crazy I thought he was just like an image comics spawn type thing
A Dark Templar whose ascension was interrupted by a Charniputra, botching the ritual and transforming him into a daywalker version of the gargoyle sect, Tis now something that sounds like fun to toy around with-either as a player character or as an antagonist character for the players to face. Worst comes to worst, just playing a Dark Templar who takes on the guise of a Charniputra would make problems for any party of Adventurers.
thank you for sharing you videos with us i use your stuff to rp my vampyre stuff on conan exiles i got 20 in vitality and i eat raw human flesh for blood maybe one day theyl add vampires and where wolfes in the game like elder scrolls online
The human faith and culture may effect each vampire species differently. It would make since that not all vampire would be affect by the Holy Crucifix unless one has a strong faith in Christianity. After all Christianity is a new faith compare to many ancient ones. Older Vampire may not be affect the Holy Crucifix depending the strength of faith and family bonds. Could the Holy Crucifix work for a vampire hunter some who strong family value but not have any faith in Christianity.

They would just die from the process, but if the person has been someone who has never harmed anyone, has spent their lives repressing and caging their darker urges, and was a victim of violent trauma. That person is a viable candidate to be converted.
sounds like bloodborne to me
@@jasonsantos3037 lol yeah
The first vampire was an ape necromancer? That's so weird it's cool. I was trying to come up with some vampire lore for a setting i'm working on, nothing deep or anything, it's a more light hearted fantasy adventure setting but my original ideas don't feel nearly as creative or interesting as ape necromancers.
nobody knows about ape vampire
I’d love to know more about it!
@@Gaia_Gaistar That sounds very fun, thanks for sharing!
Awesome! I didn't get the notification on this and just found it today. Can't wait for your next one.
Your videos of the conan lore are excelent, good work.
Yessss! More lore!
Wait how/why did subscribestar lock your account? Also have you considered using locals? Everyone I've seen use it swears by it over Patreon, subscribestar, and everyone else
Great video been going though the catalog of your Conan lore you’ve give me quite a few ideas for the dnd style campaign world I’m building in Conan exiles keep up the great work :)
Friggin awesome!
I could watch a whole video on Dark Templars. Where might one find more info on these stained souls?
This was really good! Are the creatures in Iron Shadows of the Moon considered Vampires?
I have been plotting where they come from in my book's lore. I was thinking of a generational thing. How far removed a vampire is from their god.
Woot! Gonna watch this while I trim my little vampire's(my cat) claws.
Very good love the video
Hope school is going well my dude
It is grades are up, thanks for the thought
Thankfully your videos are interesting and well-structured, but honestly I think I could enjoy listening to you narrate paint drying. 🤣
Your words are very kind
I would like to ask how the kitsune are a part of Conan lore or if they even are? i like your videos they have helped me with my Conan lore.
Maybe everything is possible in the world of conan. 🦊
Varnae has made reappearance in marvel 🎉🎉🎉
0:13 - 0:21 sounds like me this thanksgiving
Hope everyone had a good time and some good food
I need "high priest of the blood ape" on my business card
Comments like these are why I make these videos 👍🏼
Yes.. i do think i will sit for *checks time* 32 minutes and 54 seconds consecutively =D
Yes indeed 1922’s Horror on the Mound takes place in 1920s Texas
Not sure if you still reply, but is there any ties too "Derketo, the Goddess of Fertility, Death, and Lust" Derketo fits in my mind perfectly to this lore.
Idk, but I’d do it 👍🏼
How do vampires all have such weird names? Why isn’t there any of them like Ted the vampire or Bob?
excellent a new video
awesome video
Thanks mate.
How would one find your discord, I admit I have looked but I regrettably am all thumbs when it comes to some things.
Community tab, post with the big demon looking guy
So Varne is basically Tremere. Or is it the other way around.
Any link to Savage sword of Conan issues?
In the description box
I find the deep ones vampires just so hilariously op
They all, collectively came to the conclusion that the best way to end all human life is to be a vampire fish alien thing
Aqeuos Vampires DESTROY Deep Ones with FACTS and LOGIC
lol
Next video is going to be Deep Ones in Conan by the way I just finished the script an hour ago!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I saw. I can’t wait
Especially as the deep ones are old. Very old. Older than the serpent men, and most other races on the young earth.
At least if I remember my lovecraft lore correct
this technically dubs as blade lore :D
One cannot help but note that Castlevania, a series very much about vampires, had 'Varney' as a major figure in the anime's fourth season.
I don't think it was an intentional reference, but it's a very fun coincidence.
Castlevania varney is based on Varney the vampire. It's a character from Victorian Penny Dreadfuls
@@Twulfbynight Which is likely an inspiration for Varnae as well.
Varney the Vampire by James Malcom Rymer and Thomas Pecket Prest....1845. Before Dracula even.
Where do the aqeos originally come from, publishing wise? I can only find a link to marvel comics that seems to be about vampires. But like, what series or stories do they originally come from?
Curse of the Mutants and Namor the first mutant
That Godsmack song that I always almost think is Zombie
w00t!
I am pretty sure the vampires from 30 days of night were Nosferatu. Loved that movie.
Does anyone know in which story Kull fights Varnae? I just read all of Howard's Kull stories and I can't find it anywhere
Fuck yeah! Thanks for this! Awesome information.
6:10 does anyone else think the guy with the cleaver looks like Zod from berserk?
I can hear that Valheim music in the background. I'd recognize that music anywhere.
16:20 I thought I heard Beyonce at first lol
Funny this video come out in Halloween Season.
Just out of curiosity do the Chinese hopping vampires count as vampires in the Conan lore or are they considered to be something else?
Huh, I don't think that monster has been mentioned in any Conan story.
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I’m with you 100% of the way. I recently started running every single day and doing push ups. Feeling great.
So I wasn’t aware of Conan pretty sure at all before I saw games it seems his comics and books are pretty much from same time of love craft and have the same feeling. That’s crazy I thought he was just like an image comics spawn type thing
Well I’m happy to help
For some reason I picture you as the college professor that teaches “the only cool class”
Your goddamn right!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I had that once, my history professor, he was like you but with a higher voice and tendency to swear like a sailor
Please start posting to Odysee as well. Thx.
thank you for sharing you videos with us i use your stuff to rp my vampyre stuff on conan exiles i got 20 in vitality and i eat raw human flesh for blood maybe one day theyl add vampires and where wolfes in the game like elder scrolls online
I wish you fun nights, kindred!
It’s Varny the Vampire!
Awesome
3:50 I see Kratos and Atreus went evil after Ragnarok
I would go with the idea that each vampire is a unique monstrosity rather then organize them into bloodlines.

Wait, vampires called Boii? My ancestors were vampires?
We all know that the peak vampire was Wesley snipes
