Supposidely, Pokemon Battle Revolution was going to have a single player portion like Colosseum and Gale of Darkness and much more content, as well as a full rentable roster of the 493 critters just like Stadium 1 & 2 did, but were told to scrap most of those features to reach somewhere close to the launch window of the Diamond and Pearl games.

If there was character dialogue then it could've been different but yeah lol.
And yuuuup, dunno why Sega isn't greenlighting Phantasy Star V. It doesn't even need to be an expensive product, it could be done in pixel art to retain the 'classic' feel.

There is a huge reason why Phantasy Star 3 is a black sheep. It was developed by an entirely different team of devs just brought in to quickly hammer out the project in 6 months, with just the same producer/director as before. It was originally a bunch of mini stories that they strung together into a narrative..

I actually enjoy Phantasy Star III here, the narrative stories actually do flow well considering the game takes place over the course of three generations. @@marbles8641 Poison basically doesn't let you heal back your character, if you use a healing item it gets consumed and if you rest at the "save point" you don't get healed either. To cure poison you must use an antidote or by going into hospital (which forces you to go back to any nearby town).

While its "rivals" Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh are basically rehashing the same stuff over-and-over Digimon has been tackling basically every genre they can think of. And most of them wind up being excellent. It's a damn shame they're basically unknown to the wider gaming community because they're exactly what many Pokemon fans want, the old content with updated mechanics and a more mature tone.

VGC would be a lot more fun with him around. Would even fit SwSh’s whole deal too!
Also My Pokemon Ranch was fun to just have running in the background while doing other things. It was cute seeing the Pokemon interact. That’s really it. And he replied, "yes". Took it home got happy happy when both the game and demo worked, then got disappointed when I realized of the quality of their respective contents, eventually got an old beaten up double disc case for it and have in the colllection, well, since I really dig characters like Samus, Sarah Bryant and Rachel from NG/DOA, guess I have a thing for tall, blonde and gorgeous kickass women, just saying.

When you mentioned the Pokemon franchise, for a hot bit there I thought that you might talk about Pokemon Dash. Because that certainly is a game... That exists... And is not particularly good. But I never realized that Battle Revolution was as THAT much of a disappointment! Shame, really. Colosseum and XD are a lot of fun! If incredibly edgy.
Also that pre-battle music from Phantasy Star 3... I owned the GBA port as a kid, and even though I never got very far in any of those game, that song just reactivated some kind of deep-seated and forgotten emotion within me. What that emotion is on the other hand is not known even to me. O.O

So much so that you had to see when the bug was going to hit the train and jump to stay alive.

@@amirgarcia547 The problem is that the models are on the Switch and they looked worse than the ones on the Wii. I have no problem with reusing models, but at least make them look better on the stronger hardware.
Not to mention that they outright lied about the models being new in order to quell the outrage of dexit. It really doesn't matter if the models are reused or not, the important thing is that they should at least look good. Sakurai was reusing assets from Smash 4 to make Smash Ultimate, and no one cared because the models still looked fucking good, even on the new hardware.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Explorers reused Sprite work from Rescue team, but no one cared because the sprites and the game were fucking good.

Sucks to see Pokemon Battle Revolution on this list because for what it was designed for, it did really well. As a way to take your guys from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and then battle online and make a custom avatar, complete with fashion, it was fantastic. Also it was great for training and making legal competitive Pokemon because you could earn items and TMs that were unobtainable via the DS games alone. Battle Revolution's online battles were also much smoother than the DS online connections, and it looked great, sounded great, ran great, and had a catchy soundtrack that I still use for some ringtones.
I never liked the Gamecube Pokemon RPGs because of their characters and world I didn't care for/slow pacing and slow battling/everything taking forever because every battle being a double battle, so when it was cut out and condensed back into just battling in Battle Revolution, I was more than happy. Plus they sped the animations up in battles and made it all have a sleek presentation that worked really well with the Wiimote and interface. Also I'm pretty sure the game retailed for less than a regular MSRP Wii game?
I mean, the game's title is "Battle Revolution" - it's exactly what it set out to do. If you're judging it based on other titles, might as well include the Gamecube Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire in this list for just being a glorified Pokemon storage system that requires both a GBA and an expensive Gamecube/GBA Link Cable 🤷‍♀🤷‍♀🤷‍♀

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time was a masterpiece compared to Integrity and Faithlessness

Damn right, and I personally prefer 3 over 4 as well. The combat of 4 was better but that’s about it imo

I disagree. 3 is a giant slog. 5 is very consistently paced and fun throughout.

3 was one of the best games I played last year. I remember liking it on PS2 but didn't click with me like lets say Dragon Quest 8. But game was super fun and interesting and i loved getting lost in it. Twist at the end didn't take away anything. Didn't affect anything. Just was an interesting discovery. If you played the game for 20 plus hours and all of a sudden think because of that, nothing matters, that's a personal problem. Or whatever reason people hated it. I don't freaking know lol

God, I remember when Capcom was in that awful funk in the 7th gen. But they really seemed to snap out of it with a ton of games for series that we thought were dead at the time. I'm still so glad we got Capcom back on the good list.

Oh yeah the new Mega Man games, the Phoenix Wright sequels, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 aka the best one next to 2, Street Fighter IV and many others.

RAID SHADOW LEGENDS IN THE HOUSE! Glad to see another video of yours once again, always love to see your perspectives on things since we come from a similar time so a lot of relateable stuff. I was definitely expecting Capcom at the top of the list, since the first thing that came to mind for me was Breath of Fire personally. I wonder, if you do enjoy the Phantasy Star games, if you would ever consider doing like a deeper retrospective? the older games I guess were more direct but after PSO1 there were all the offshoots and spinoffs, between consoles and hand helds.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness was one of the worst JRPGs I've ever had the displeasure of playing.

I think one thing it deserves some credit for is having the entire party in battles. That's something I want more RPGs to take a crack at.
