The mistress is dead but she's alive in his grief. The wife still playing second fiddle to a dead woman. Life is crazy. Stuff happens. In my "few" short years on this earth I've learned not to be self righteous and get comfortable on a high horse because the fall can break a neck. But I've also learned to value myself and know when someone doesn't deserve my time and attention. If her husband cared about the wife as much as he did the mistress, he would've grieved in private to spare her. Instead he told her every dirty detail, probably because misery loves company, and then refused to take steps with her to repair whatever was broken because he'd rather focus on his grief. If she were my mother, sister, niece, cousin, aunt or friend my advice would be to let him focus on his grief and divorce papers and consider herself blessed that she no longer has to concern herself with his problems.

There was a scene in the movie Ray where his wife witnessed him grieving after he'd just heard about his mistress dying. She let him know she knew about the woman, the affair and the baby and when he cried she went to console him but didnt. My point, there's a line even for a wife. You can't console your husband's mourning over a mistress. It's apparent there was an emotional connection with this side woman. In this case, I would file for divorce. There is no need to fight for a marriage like this with someone who is clearly not in love with you anymore. If you stay, he will get another mistress.
