Great video. This is my first time working on a carb in my life. I’ve read the tutorial on VMF but was looking for videos to show me how to do it visually. Thanks for your time in explaining and making the video. Hopefully can get my ‘68 mustang running soon.
Thanks! 289. With the tuning, the response is a pinch better, but it's hard to tell since this change really only gets it to what the stock Edelbrock 1405 settings are. I did this so I would have a base line when I start to add more tuning parts.
A little snappier, a little more responsive than before. It does run rich, likely because the jets and rods might be a pinch too large? The most important part (to me) was to get the Carb to a baseline that matches the 1405 Carb. From there I would use the 1405 tuning chart as my reference and make adjustments up or down depending on how the car was running and parts that get added. Doing something like a new Cam would likely require me to re-tune the Carb. :)
Hey Andy would you say this upgrade was worth it? I have the same carburetor on a 355 sbc Even has the same Jets and rods as yours before you did the tune. Pardon my French but the engine is kicking my ass not only that but it’s got a high rise intake and some 200cc heads with the 2.02-1.60 valves and some long tubes Out of all these upgrades though it’s still runs The same as when I had some crappy 283 heads on it with ram horns do you think a tune on it could make at least a noticeable difference?
Yes, because the 1406 is tuned from the factory for fuel economy. The brother to this carb is the 1405 and it is tuned more towards performance from the factory. The tuning I did here was just get it up to the 1405 spec, and from there the real tuning can begin. You could just skip this step, grab a 1405 tuning chart, assume you're starting at a baseline 1405, then pick your route from there. I planned to tune this carb more, but I ended up selling that car. I now have that same carb on my new car and I plan to pick up where I left off. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel After fixing your clogged jet did the motor pull harder? I have the same carb and plans to tune it for more power with a AEM air fuel gauge. So much info online to do it right. You looked like it didn’t improve te performance with the jet and rod upgrade.
@@CARSONBOARD This was almost two years ago on a different car than I have now, so It's hard to recall how everything went. The performance gains from this kind of tune are minimal, especially on a 289 where this carb is arguably too big for the motor. I recall it being a little snappier on throttle, but most probably wouldn't see a big difference. :)
I purchased them off ebay, but there are lots of places to order them. Also, you can buy a kit that has multiple sizes to allow you to further tune the carb for your specific application. :)
To be honest, I haven't driven it much since I made this video. It's winter time here and there has been snow on the ground for most of it. I plan to get out as soon as the weather allows. :)

Glad it was helpful!
Wow, great job showing and explaining! I have been looking for a year, and you and another new guy have answered many of my questions! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Real a great video.. Wish you would have touched on float adjustment while you had it apart.
Yeah, I can see that part might be helpful for a few people. Next time? :)
Wow, good job. Makes me appreciate modern fuel injection. The beeping at the end makes me think you are beeping out curse words:)
I may be. ;)
GREAT Video!! do you know the part number of that top gasket you replaced? does it only come in a kit?
The Fuel Bowl gasket part number is EDL1477 and it can be purchased separately, or as part of a larger rebuild kit. :)
Nice car, what size motor?
How was the car before/ after?

Hey Andy now that you've had time to drive it how does she feel ???

Where can I get those jets?. I need to lean my carb out

@@AndyKruseChannel yes thank you I have been looking around thank you again
Have u noticed any changes in the mpg?

Did the person that invented a carburator have TINY hands?? Man these parts are tiny.
Likely. :)
