This was sold as a big comeback for Travolta at the time (it was). But it was also a decent comeback for Bruce Willis after a few early 90s misfires and a huge career boost for Thurman and Jackson. I'd say the latter two benefitted the most.
It was also the movie that first gave him the role as a bad guy (if we don't count being a douchebag in "Carrie") and he loved it. So he accepted many roles as bad guy in movies after that.
I saw it in the theater with my cousin the first time. I had seen Reservoir Dogs and convinced him that we needed to watch this. We were quoting the movie all the way home. When Vincent shot Marvin we exploded laughing. I looked around and everyone else had this shocked look on their faces, which made us laugh more. I don't think I've had a better time at the theatre since.
I don't remember why my friends and I went to see it, it wasn't my idea, but we did and it's one of the movies I have the most vivid memories of seeing. I'll never forget Roth near the end shouting "Garcon, coffee" and realizing "ohhh shit, this is where we began." I'd never seen a movie do that (I had not seen Reservoir Dogs yet either). I remember being at a small handful of movies where the audience clapped at the end, I can't say for sure but this may have been one of them.

For some odd reason, in my head cannon, I always thought up or came up with the notion that the katana that Butch pulled from the wall in the pawn shop was Bud's Hatori Hanzo sword from Kill Bill Vol 2. Now I know what you are thinking, and that Bill said to Elle that Bud pawned it off for 250.00. Not to make note that the Kill Bill movies were made long after Pulp Fiction (PF in 1994 and KB 1 & 2 were in 2003 and 2004 respectively) But remember, that again QT's movies are filmed out of sequence but in random places within his universe. So maybe, at one time Bud did pawn off his Hatori Hanzo sword off for beer and cigarettes at some point, but then had second thoughts and bought it out of hock, maybe he had to chase it down for a bit as it had left Texas, and found it's way off to California. Maybe Bud got lucky and managed to pick it up after Butch fled after his attack and saving Marcelous from Zedd. He could had just walked right in, picked up the sword, wiped the blood off and walked out with it before the cops showed up. Just a random thought of my own head cannon.

Good stuff Minty! I just realized watching this that Tarantino was so great at making 'alternate universes'. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction seemed to take place in another world that only looked similar to a major American city. Whereas his later movies tend to try to enforce this 'alternate existence' of Wouldn't It Be Great If.... Hitler was taken out in a movie theater, or Manson's minions were taken out by a couple of Hollywood old standards. Other movies like Dusk Till Dawn, Hateful Eight, and Death Proof are to me 'too out there to be believed'. Not that they're bad movies - but exist in a totally foreign realm that is hard to relate to. But Tarantino shines best when it's characters and settings are something we can relate to, think we may have actually brushed by, and is possible the situation(s) could be happening at any moment near us today or tomorrow or maybe last week. Which I think Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction does in spades!

"A pair of pliers and a blowtorch." I don't suspect Marcellus was planning on removing the buckshot in Zed's groin with the pliers and cauterizing the wounds with the blowtorch to keep him alive for an extended torture. He was just going to skin him alive and leave him to die in agonizing pain.
This is one of my favourite films of all time and is one of the most quotable films of all time. I spent a lot of time watching this with a group of friends and getting stoned.
Funny connection to this movie: In the 90s, shortly after this was released on home video, White Wolf Inphobia Magazine, Issue 44, had a pack-in Rage CCG card. It was labeled "Get Medieval," and the werewolf in the pic is holding a blowtorch and a pair of pliers .
The brief case represents desire, just as Quinten Tarantino said himself whatever's in the Briefcase whatever you think it is whatever you desire is in the case and the gold light is to represent that it's what you want the most making the Briefcase a symbol for greed and desire
This is the kicker. The colors of the case the combo the light that's the light that shines in the darkness. You could have it any way you want it. Just remember that want comes with payment when and when payment is do you meet the Equalizers. I am Lucid I see behind the veil.
I'm too literal for interpretations like that. Same as movies with huge plot holes...can't freaking stand that bs. "oh you have to ignore them and enjoy the movie" nope.
Anytime I meet a new friend, eventually Pulp Fiction comes up. It's inevitable. If I happen to find out they haven't seen the movie, I don't give any spoilers, and just give the general feel of the movie; however, I demand that they watch it when they get the opportunity. Not one person has been unfriended, and not one has said a single bad thing about it. I needed this today. Thanks, Minty!
I felt like I was on really good drugs the entire movie and I was never so relieved as I was at the End of the Bruce Willis segment. Pulp Fiction is the Greatest movie ever made!
The mid 1950's movie staring Cloris Leachman, "Kiss Me Deadly", based on a Micky Spillane pulp fiction detective novel, had a briefcase containing a mystery glowing item thought to be some sort of nuclear fuel or item, such as uranium. I'm sure, that Tarintino got the briefcase idea from that movie.
The legendary Dick Dale helped kick the movie off. Tarantino knew he was going to use Misirlou before he fully knew what the movie was going to be about.
Damn Minty you really went all out on this one! Love the suit my guy maybe you could be Mr. Mauve or Mr. Cyan? Lol keep up the great work and if Jules and Vince need a third Hitman then they should give you a call.
Great movie. Great review, and as a coincidence I sat down to this review with a Quarter Pounder(Royal) with Cheese, because of the metric system. I couldn't find a Big Kahuna Burger joint nearby. Lol. Love Pulp Fiction.
“Hey Debbie, Hey Brody. What a day for a mow huh” I could quote that movie for days & it’s been maybe eight years since the last time I watched it. “What did you need so many copies of the book for? Incase I wanted to read it more than once.” The Best.
Makes sense since all of Tarantino's movies take place in the same universe. I mean Travolta's character is the brother of one of the dudes in Reseviore Dog's
@@CONSOLETRUTH2 Travoltas characters brother in Reservoir Dogs is Vic Vega played by Michael Madsen. He's been in a few other films like Free Willy and Free Willy 2 as the adoptive father...he's Budd in Kill Bill 2,Hateful 8,and fun fact...Madsen was offered the role of Vincent Vega for Pulp Fiction but turned it down and John Travolta took the role.
I was not excited to see this movie but WOW when we did I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. By partner at work and I would make quotes from this movie nearly everyday. Re: the briefcase I liked the party where Tim Roth's character asked, "Is that what I think it is" upon viewing the content of the case. It makes it more magical or mythical than just a good bar, etc.
At the end of The Spy Who Loved Me, it announced Bond’s next film will be For Your Eyes Only, but the success of Star Wars made the studio decide to do Moonraker instead, hoping to capitalize on the resurgence of sci-fi space movies. There’s your second fact.
I remember not liking this when I saw it, I thought it was too disjointed and kind of a patchwork instead of a straight story. I did however like the actors, Tim Roth, Uma Thurman and Bruce Willis in this movie as well as the iconic dance scene and the movie's soundtrack. Seeing your review has made me want to watch it again, it's been a long time, time's change and so does one's taste and appreciation as I have learned with other films. So, thank you Minty for this interesting movie review. I will watch it again with fresh eyes and probably with more appreciation. I really like your reviews, take care.
Fun Fact: When Quentin was visiting Hawaii. He asked his driver if there was a place to get some good food. The driver takes him to his restaurant. He gives him a burger. Quentin loved it so much, he asked if he could put it in his movie. That's where Big Kahuna Burger came from. There are 3 Big Kahunas. 2 in San Diego, Ca and 1 in Hawaii. The dad owns the 1 in Hawaii and his son's own the other 2.

@@varanid9 I get what you're saying but it's definitely Travolta. In the final scene of the movie, he's pointing the gun up at Honey Bunny as Julz talks with Punkin (Tim Roth)
@@corysantana6171 I believe you are correct.
2:44 Nice addition to your editing style Minty👍🏽👍🏽
Greetings from Amsterdam and your fan from the start🙏🏽
"A pair of pliers and a blowtorch." I don't suspect Marcellus was planning on removing the buckshot in Zed's groin with the pliers and cauterizing the wounds with the blowtorch to keep him alive for an extended torture. He was just going to skin him alive and leave him to die in agonizing pain.
That's medieval.
@@progKansas "Blowtorches aren't medieval" - that guy
This is one of my favourite films of all time and is one of the most quotable films of all time. I spent a lot of time watching this with a group of friends and getting stoned.
"Everybody cool it. This is a Minty video!"
R
Mike Hunt thanks
This is the kicker. The colors of the case the combo the light that's the light that shines in the darkness. You could have it any way you want it. Just remember that want comes with payment when and when payment is do you meet the Equalizers. I am Lucid I see behind the veil.
Its the ring from lotr
I'm too literal for interpretations like that. Same as movies with huge plot holes...can't freaking stand that bs. "oh you have to ignore them and enjoy the movie" nope.
Anytime I meet a new friend, eventually Pulp Fiction comes up. It's inevitable. If I happen to find out they haven't seen the movie, I don't give any spoilers, and just give the general feel of the movie; however, I demand that they watch it when they get the opportunity. Not one person has been unfriended, and not one has said a single bad thing about it.
I needed this today. Thanks, Minty!
Hey Minty, when Quentin Tarantino makes his 10th film you should do one fact on each one!
Once again, as with Indiana, you dressed the part, pulled it off beautifully, and look quite dashing, Minty! Cheers!
I always thought what was in the briefcase was the score from Reservoir Dogs...
Great wardrobe! Love the vid..... But remind me where @14:18 Souvlakia is again? :)
Your Mintyisms are fantastic!
One of the best movies ever.
Now, here's a beauty. Thank goodness for Butch casting with Bruce Willis. Oh, you mentioned 'Saturday Night Fever'. Please Minty!
I felt like I was on really good drugs the entire movie and I was never so relieved as I was at the End of the Bruce Willis segment. Pulp Fiction is the Greatest movie ever made!
Its definitely got a case for being the best film ever made. It really is a masterpiece
I have watched that movie and still missed quite few colorations. Thanks for this one.
The greatest movie ever made. ❤️
Yes sir I agree!
This movie has the MOST quoted lines that literally everybody recognizes!
Great job minty on the best gangster movie of all time. Great job,as always. Thanks.
Nobody:
Samuel L. Jackson:
"I DON'T REMEMBER ASKING YOU A GOD DAMN THING!!!!"
You were sayin'?
Classic film and still 1 of my all time favs.So many great lines and scenes.
The legendary Dick Dale helped kick the movie off. Tarantino knew he was going to use Misirlou before he fully knew what the movie was going to be about.
Thanks for the wait... !
Jules: You sending 'The Mint'?
Marsellus: Oh, you feel better?
Jules: Sheee, that's all you had to say!
It's ok to say 'negro'.
'the wolf'
Damn Minty you really went all out on this one! Love the suit my guy maybe you could be Mr. Mauve or Mr. Cyan? Lol keep up the great work and if Jules and Vince need a third Hitman then they should give you a call.
I think he would be the new Mr. Green.
Hey, Harvey Keitel also played a “cleaner” in another move I..... The Point Of No Return. Pretty damn funny hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Bruh, I just rewatched that movie a couple of weeks ago. I forgot he played "The Cleaner"
Great movie. Great review, and as a coincidence I sat down to this review with a Quarter Pounder(Royal) with Cheese, because of the metric system. I couldn't find a Big Kahuna Burger joint nearby. Lol. Love Pulp Fiction.
Jersey Films is Danny Devito. The 1 mill Danny put up is what got miramax interested. Frank Reynolds got Pulp Fiction made!
So happy you posted another Tarantino!! You are awesome Minty!!
How about “My Blue Heaven” next Minty? It is one of my favorite, anyone else?
I tip everyone
Such a great movie!!
What's the difference between a lightbulb and a pregnant woman? You can unscrew a lightbulb! See, no sense of humor whatsoever!
“Hey Debbie, Hey Brody. What a day for a mow huh”
I could quote that movie for days & it’s been maybe eight years since the last time I watched it.
“What did you need so many copies of the book for? Incase I wanted to read it more than once.”
The Best.
@@aaronburratwood.6957 You got something against books?
Even got that cool MCU reference on Nick Furys Gravestone in Winter Soldier!
Fun Fact: Jueles is in kill bill as the man who witnessed the bride's massacre. Following up to Jules revelation. (Uncredited)
He played the church's organ player.
Makes sense since all of Tarantino's movies take place in the same universe. I mean Travolta's character is the brother of one of the dudes in Reseviore Dog's
Kill Bill is actually a film within his Universe. Meaning The Bride is played by Mia Wallace and is something Jules would watch at the cinema.
His name is Rufus
@@CONSOLETRUTH2 Travoltas characters brother in Reservoir Dogs is Vic Vega played by Michael Madsen. He's been in a few other films like Free Willy and Free Willy 2 as the adoptive father...he's Budd in Kill Bill 2,Hateful 8,and fun fact...Madsen was offered the role of Vincent Vega for Pulp Fiction but turned it down and John Travolta took the role.
👏👏 great episode!
SOUVLAKIA! I guess this is where Souvlaki originates! 🤣
10 things you didn’t know about Moonraker
I'd say "its horrible" but we all know that.
At the end of The Spy Who Loved Me, it announced Bond’s next film will be For Your Eyes Only, but the success of Star Wars made the studio decide to do Moonraker instead, hoping to capitalize on the resurgence of sci-fi space movies.
There’s your second fact.
PissedOffDragon Yup. I know that fact
10 things you don't give a shit about moonraker.
Man Miramax was the greatest hard to believe they owned by disney for certain amount of time
haha dude the stache!! such a nice touch. well done sir. well done
Man I did not know that and I go to San Diego every year and nobody said nothing about it. Thanks will check it out along with the Top Gun bbq place. Cheers!
@@chief1b the one I always went to, is the one in Imperial Beach. Great food.
Blackcat721 thanks I will check it out. 😊
Sorry, but that’s not true whatsoever. It’s entirely made up, but later co-opted by some restaurants for either the name or a burger.
