I love how meta this scene is, the staff trying to court Elizabeth while at the same time telling the viewer: yes, we know it's a difference, but we all have to accept it and move on. I'll imagine they'll do something similar for the season 5 premiere

Ngl, it did throw me off with how they jump around with the timeline, like 'wtf???' Cuz this is 1964- we just had a scene with Claire Foy and Matt Smith; she had just sent the letter to Jackie Kennedy after the assassination in 1963. Maybe if Olivia Coleman went from the 80s to present, it could work better.

For me, Season 3 is the best season of The Crown as, from the get-go, we see that this season is about Elizabeth understanding and discovering her identity. By the end of the season, that identity has been uncovered by her and for her, through her trials and tribulations - that's why the music of the score that plays at the start of the season is the same music that plays at the end of the season, only at the end, the music isn't as timid and drowsy as it is at the start, but more grandiose and emotionally rewarding.

Olivia excellently portrayed the Queen's pain, fear and anger. However, I felt her portrayal lacked some of the Queen's sense of humor. Her lines in this scene might be humorous, but there were few of those this season, and she looks genuinely hurt saying them. Nothing wrong with that; the scene is brilliant. In general she is just a little bit...stricter as the Queen than the real ER2 was, I think.

'The Crown' should reflect reality. Monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor just as material to fill space in the media. Elizabeth II's death has seen much publicity, not much thought about why she matters, and why the UK has a monarchy.
The achievement of the British monarchy should become clear in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, and Scotland have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace".
Of course King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless; he & Elizabeth II made mistakes as parents. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives the UK & the world. By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia), it promotes peace in the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century; likewise over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.

That image is a bit rosy, don't you think? The Crown didn't prevent the slaughter of millions in 1947-48 when George VI was King of Pakistan and King of India. And Queen Elizabeth was powerless to prevent the racial turmoil in South Africa and Rhodesia in the 1960s and 1970s. The Crown's influence and "soft power" only goes so far.

Didn’t know they were gonna change actors and actresses as they aged! It feels odd. Sorry but Claire Foy and Matt Smith are gone, so as far as I’m concerned, the series ended at season 2 !

The casting job is an abomination to the first two seasons. They should have just hired an expert makeup team to age the original cast.
