    I think it gets overlooked because, as with everything else Garageband iOS, Apple does a lousy job of providing “how-to” guides with it. This video showed me a couple of functions I wasn’t even aware of so hats off to Patrick and others here on TH-cam showing the inside secrets!

      Yeah, Apple's in house guides are a little dry.

    Great stuff. I had my first quick dabble with this a couple of nights back and it's nice to see that it's more powerful than I thought. Will definitely be giving it a deeper look.

    Its the fastest way to create any beat/drum patterns for any genre of music.
    I love playing the beat sequencer live and creating wild esoteric drum sounds & patterns.

    Sometimes I don't get GarageBand iOS. It has this commercial-class beat sequencer built-in and some stuff not even present in Logic Pro like the smart instruments yet on the other hand it is frustratingly basic in some respects, such as track-automation that only allows you to automate the volume. It's like two different teams are developing this app who have completely opposing visions of how versatile it should be.

      You sum up my GarageBand experience perfectly. It's like so many new features but loads of bugs to patch out, plus it is really hard for me to properly do my style of music in it (synthrock/synthmetal)

      Well it does not really contradict itself, if you think about it, it was made to " write" quick idea as fast as possible, not to go deep about the mixing, garageband is one of the best production tool so is the ipad, but not the best for mixing or mastering, a computer is, and will always be, they will not try to compete with computer with a so small market.

    • @Bittamin
      @Bittamin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RepeatAgain979578 yes but some of my ideas that are quick in my head require LFOs that I could automate a lot easier otherwise. I agree though

    • @eesaw_
      @eesaw_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree 200%. Personally, I like the touch workflow of GB better than the shortcuts workflow of Logic. It would be a dream come true having most of Logic’s feature on the iPad, but I doubt that’ll happen if Apple wants to keep selling macs

    The beat sequencer is so much fun to use

  • @jeffreybiesiotmusic
    @jeffreybiesiotmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What I often do is create a basic pattern in the beat sequencer and use an autodrummer for fills (and sometimes high hats as well).
    Or vice versa, you can remove the bass drum that Anders uses and replace that with the kick drums you create in the beat sequencer. This way you can create a double kick and tweak the sound using high and low pass filters

    i discovered all these features last night just exploring, its pretty neat! What a shame you can't use custom kits or tune the sample, add your own etc, that would make it one of the best iOS drum machines period.

    When my MacBook Pro recently reached the end of its useful service after 12 years. I decided not to upgrade this time. I just wasn't writing anymore (even though I had a whole studio room at the bottom of the garden) I just wasn't getting the vibe or buzz from it that I once did.
    I thought that was the end but then ended up buying an iPad pro for a variety of reasons. It has been a revelation for getting back into writing for fun, with a small midi keyboard on my lap, sitting on the sofa and with great synths and plugs that costs pounds instead of 100's of pounds.
    But yeah, just let us automate more than simply volume and allow more flexibility with master effect bus choices in GB please. 🙏

    Triplets?
    By that I mean: "hello, I'm intermediate level, looking to get back into music, after a 20+ year hiatus. The instruments I used to play didn't even require electricity, let alone a screen. I have an iPad and MacBook Air and Pro, so it's silly for me to not look at GarageBand, as bewildering as I find it. I've watched quite a few of your videos, your Alchemy Synth Tutorial was eye opening and I was able to have delusions of Jean Michel Jarre-ness within minutes (not that I want to be JMJ, but I do like a bit of ambient/ lo-fi etc), due to watching your guide, so thank you so much for that.
    I've not yet watched a video of yours that mentions triplets, I'd really like to be able to throw triplets into my beats, so would really appreciate some knowledge there."
    Something else I wanted to ask is: do you have have video guides about working with an iPad and Mac in tandem? My iPad is a Mini 6, I can really see some benefits to using the touchscreen for expression. Any thoughts/ advice/ tips? I'm thinking if any MIDI instruments I use are ultimately running through my MacBook Pro, I have a selection of various USBs and I'm thinking I can avoid buying an "audio interface." which I don't fully understand the need for, if I'm not using a DAW.
    Thanks in advance for any reply.

    You can extol the greatness of GarageBand iOS beat sequencer without having a terrible title that encourages them to add premiums and paid things, Apple isn’t strapped for cash so I won’t act like they are a small developer who needs the donations. Please consider changing the title of this video lest you give them any bad ideas!
