    I honestly don't think anyone inspires me and depresses me on youtube as much as you. I'm trying to listen to the pedals but can't help just losing myself to the sensitivity of the playing. I've said it before and I will say it again, you are one of the best guitarists out there. Thank you, my friend - I'll deal with the depression and leave with the inspiration.

And so that’s what we have here and I love that guitar. So thank you Joe 👍

Spirituality is such a personal and private thing and so I never really speak about it. But the subject is very interesting to me and I watch lots of TH-cam videos around spirituality, mindfulness, and stories from those who have had near death experiences. What a great question! Firstly, thank you 🙏 . Secondly, it’s about “touch” and making sure that not a single note sounds amateurish. If it does? Don’t play it! I did a video on this, so perhaps that will explain it th-cam.com/video/bPR3FBBeAOo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Wf-dOwXJySE23ltV. Ultimately, it’s down to picking pressure, dynamics, vibrato (or deliberate lack thereof), and love for each note, as though you’re caring for it. Sorry, that was all a bit nerdy, but you get the idea 🤣

The guitars are all gorgeous but the sound you have from the Oswald Strat blows me away every time you use it. Flint is one I go to a lot when going direct into the board - it seems to cover the Fender Spring and Tremolo really well and the Plate is cool. TC Electronics seem to turn out nice delays - I rely on the Alter Ego because it gives me the warbly tape delays I had when I used WEM Kopicat & Roland Space Echo in the 70s. The Effectrode Blackbird Valve Pre-Amp Pedal has become my 'always on' for 3 great Fender / Dumblish options. I think I want a Freqout now - fun, fun, fun! 😀 P.S. re: OD - your collection is impeccable! I will be looking into the Page & the Hagerman! I have relied on the HotCake made my my friend Paul Crowther in NZ since the 70s - recently got his 'Double HotCake' which offers 3 distinct OD sounds - I believe Mark Knopfler uses a HotCake with pretty well every guitarist in NZ!

      Paul, The Alter Ego x 4 allows you to set up 3 independent delays, e.g. Space Echo dotted 8ths, WEM slap-back, Echoplex 8th notes and flip between them with the foot switches with the 4th switch for Tap Tempo - great for live work.

    I watched this & some of your other videos last night.
    I don't own any pedals - yet - but was wondering, a bit like Desert Island Discs, if you were forced to pick just three pedals to keep from both boards, which ones would you choose?
    Thanks again,

    Paul, very beautiful sounds and inspiring playing, as always. How do you describe the Page vs Broadcast used as a boost? What do you like more on the Page?… I own a Broadcast but the Page is really tempting… I also play a Cornell amp but it is a Plexi 7 :-)

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sergio. Yes, I’d say the Page’s specialty is to bring valve “warmth” to your signal. And the nature of the Overdrive is full frequency (as opposed to cutting bass etc). It’s best described as….. well, “gorgeous”. And very “low gain”. The Broadcast however has a stronger personality….. it specialises in bringing the slightly “lo-fi” tones from recording consoles from the 60’s. It’s also lovely and warm but it definitely has an almost fuzzy hint to the tone. I applaud it for that. And I love that it’s not “transparent” (like a Greer Amps Lightspeed”). Hope this helps 👍

    Do you have a reason for keeping your power supply on top using up pedal space ?

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi StephenandVyn. Yes, my Zuma allows for 8 pedals, no more. And so I’m at full capacity. Since I can’t power any more pedals I may as well use the available space on the board to display the Zuma. This also allows me better access to the cables that run to and from the brick, which makes trouble shooting or changing pedal connections a little easier. I also like the look of the Zuma, it’s quite attractive. I guess I could power more than 8 pedals by using daisy chains etc…. but no, less is more. Eight pedals is more than enough 😊

    • @stephenandvyn4719
      @stephenandvyn4719 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulstaffordcook8799 That makes perfect sense, thanks. Also the pedaltrain looks similar to mine so maybe you would have to modify it to raise it high enough to give clearance for the power supply underneath like I had to do for my 1 spot.

    Auld yin, I've realised I've been neglecting you with the gags lately so here's a ahem catch up 1. A young fella is out on the pull and he chats up a punk rocker girl, at closing time he says "want to come back to my place for some fun ?", she says "oh yes", so they're getting down to it when she says "I hope your using protection ", he says "Don't you worry about that ", she stops him again and says "gonnae put on some music", he says "oh for Christ's sake, ok", so he's fumbling around in the dark and puts on the first CD he finds, she says "is that Johnny Rotten you put on ?", he says "no, I've only used it once before ". 2. A old fella is walking through the park when he sees a huge rottweiler coming towards him, he starts panicking but it starts humping his leg, he says "get off me you big ugly bastard ", the dog starts growing and snarling, he says "ok then, be as quick as you can ". 3. Fella gets home from work and his missus asks " did you enjoy your sandwiches today Darling ?", he says "actually no, what was that filling ?", she says "crab paste", he says "where did you get it from ?", she says "The CHEMIST". Take care kid.
