An exceptional & enticing well detailed account of just what makes this remastered first game so good, quite enjoyable as always! You have been killing it the last couple years, one stop shopping for quality retro reviews my friend!
Big fan of the gears games. I think gears 3 being my fav. It had alot going for it too. It had 4 player co-op, multiplayer, horde mode, and beast mode.
From someone that got this version on day 1, the multi-player didn't last a year. It sucks because gears 1 multi-player was the best. I remember the summer of 07, there was so much going on with the multi-player. I played for 3 months straight. The only multi-player game I really ever got into.
After a decade of my GOW 2, I am finally back to gears with the 3rd one on game pass with my new series S. The campaign for GOW 3 is so good. The nostalgia hits so hard that it makes me want more games to have such kind of linearity with amazing storylines. These days everything is open world with bullshit side quests & not so engaging mainline story
I played the pc version of ultimate edition on gamepass in 2022 and I haven't had any issues with the campaign I didn't try multi-player though. Great review dude.
My headcanon/fan-theory is: the planet of Sera is a colony of humanity in the Warhammer 40k universe, isolated from the rest of mankind during the "Age of Strife". Now all we need is a crossover, with Warhammer 40k, set during the "Great Crusade", where an Astartes Legion shows up and we get Marcus Fenix, teaming up with Space Marines to take out the Locust. I mean, considering how much inspiration Gears of War took from Warhammer 40k, wouldn`t be too far fetched.
I still remember the advertising for this game. The commercial with the models set to the Tears For Fears song was amazing and I instantly fell in love with this game when I saw it.
gears was definitely the real killer app for the 360, there were some really cool games that came out before it around the 360 launch and obviously lots of classics to follow but this is the game that sold me on the console. one of the coolest console exclusives of all time honestly, at least until it got ported to pc
All these years later and they still can't get the first one to run properly on PC. Imagine the half-assed job they'd do with the rest of the series. Just think of GTA Definitive Edition.
Never understood the idea of cover based shooting in games that require unloading several magazines into a single enemy in order to kill them. I always thought this game was like baby's first Rainbow Six Vegas
The FPS Boost on series X for this is great. It was however broken when I played through the campaign on coop. The game would drop back down to 30fps from 60fps after any in game cut scene. You would have to reload last checkpoint each time to fix it.
If you enjoy 3rd-person shooters, then I would recommend the Zombie Army games from Rebellion. There is the "Zombie Army Trilogy" which collects the first 2 instalments that were originally only on PC but got ported to PS4 & XBO and added a 3rd instalment. A few years ago they released "Zombie Army 4" which has some improvements but in some ways fails to capture the horror of the original. The series is like a 3rd'person version of Doom except replace hell & mars with WW2 & zombies. I personally feel that its an underrated gem of a series from Rebellion Studios. (same studio that makes the Sniper Elite series).

Gaming Pastime I love ya man but sometimes there’s a real disconnect in your timing when you’re narrating something to when your narration stops and you show an example. You talk about their good dialogue and cut to Kim repeating a line from Comms, then a long pause of silence as Carmine throws something away. I know making videos isn’t easy but it would be nice to see a more 1:1 example when you “all stop” 😎
Just played this for the first time about a month ago. This was an aggressively gray-ass game. Lotta fun memories with the original though so still neat to come back to
Epic games will never do that, now that they are more focused on Fortnite. Not to mention that they delisted their Unreal games from all digital stores.
Ultimate edition on PC is still a clusterfuck. First of all this game doesn't utilise 100% of the GPU's power. In this often leads to the dip in frame rate even lower 20s and below. In some areas of the game the game runs extremely fine whereas in other areas it runs horrible. Even after 8 years Microsoft hasn't fixed this game and there are no patches mod for this game to fix
The original was better because the lightning was better. Not only it was more moody and atmospheric but also in the remaster you sometimes miss details in underground levels the game just looks worse. But the most important thing is the difficulty level. The original was challenging but wasn't frustrating. You felt powerful but on the edge. The remaster is way too easy and I also feel that the ai was downgraded.
@yavimaya wurm I was playing through both on Gamepass and yeah the ai was downgraded from the original. In the remake they just kind of stay in one place. But, in the original they’re much more aggressive and will flank/charge you.
@Raymond Jones That’s something I noticed playing both games since they were on Gamepass. In the remaster they just stay in one spot, but in the original they’re much more aggressive and will charge/flank you. Let’s hope they remake the other games.
i definitely perfer the more dark and grimy aesthetic of the original. It fit really well with the dark tone the game had throughout
Love your style of straight forward reviews, feels like I'm back in the old days

Me and my friend used to host the old gears server years ago, and the remaster was really good even online shame it died out quick

How do you guys sleep? You've been dropping these reviews left and right! Excellent job!

My buddy and I just started playing this game a couple days ago
Jesus that Locust screaming at the end nearly blew out my eardrums!
I look forward to the review of all three Gears of War games.
All SEVEN.
They really need to come out with that Gears Collection.
I love Xenia emulator just bc I re-played all of the Gears games again without any console
One of the best franchises of all time for me.
They need to bring all the Gears games to PC, I recently played the 5th game for the first time on PC and spent weeks glued to it. Great series.
All these years later and they still can't get the first one to run properly on PC. Imagine the half-assed job they'd do with the rest of the series. Just think of GTA Definitive Edition.
Nope, runs great...even modded with extra effects.

The 5th one sucks haha
Never understood the idea of cover based shooting in games that require unloading several magazines into a single enemy in order to kill them. I always thought this game was like baby's first Rainbow Six Vegas
It's a pity they didn't release any in Steam until GoW5
I agree that Gears of War 2 is a banger. It's sad that Ultimate Edition is so poorly optimized for the PC though.

I miss the Gears of War era of Epic games
Something about the casual cursing in these vids feels satisfying for some reason. Hearing "boomers are big fuckers" in a calm tone just sells it lmao

I don't understand why this version get so much hate when this is still fun.
they need to bring these to pc like they did mcc
I prefer how the original looked especially the levels with the rain
On PC with mods even more beautifull imo

I guess the gears of content keep turning on this channel .
If you played this on the Series X. You could have enabled 60 fps. Its a night and day difference.
This review was completed before the FPS boost for the series became available.
@@Gamingpastime64 Wow so the Review is almost a year old now?
Correct.
I remember when this game pretty much put a leash on Unreal Tournament, if not an outright halt.
Did he mention the graphical glitch on the Xbox series X remastered version of gears?
I love your channel. So undersubscribed.
Issues on the PC version? I finished that game without any issue, but I did it this year, maybe it was already fixed.
I've been wanting to play this game online on pc but sadly, you can never find a game.

Great review.
But how come this great game never got a 4K / 60fps upgrade for the One X or Series X?
It is 60fps on series X
Gears 1-3 is Ike the original trilogy of Star Wars which makes the new games the sequel trilogy and I don’t mean that in a bad way
They need to bring back the unreal tournament series
Epic games will never do that, now that they are more focused on Fortnite.
Not to mention that they delisted their Unreal games from all digital stores.
Still a great game and i think the most focused. Too bad the pc version is a bit broken…
You didn’t play with FPS boost?
Obviously not

A.I is worse in the ultimate edition. Game is glitchy all through the campaign. I would like to see gears 2 ultimate edition.

This coming from the same guy who hated Twisted Metal despite it being a universally loved game?
