@@kidanarchy2105 Objectively old yes, but there is no agreed standard for what is "retro", and it rarely just means it's "old". The original Xbox doesn't really have it's own style that can be considered retro, where as older systems with their 2d graphics have a defined style.
I have a hard time considering anything in the 3D era to be "retro". But again, what is or isn't retro is open for interpretation. I certainly wouldn't consider Halo to be retro though. Old yes, but that doesn't automatically mean it's retro. Classic perhaps.
@@s4tchm0j0n3s I think anything pre HD era is open to being called retro. IMO Spider-Man 2 on the PS2, for instance, while still an amazing game, has visuals that are so quaint by modern standards that.difference between that and what we have now really is almost as stark as the contrast between the PS2 and SNES. Add to that the fact that there is a very distinct PS2/Xbox "flavor" of game that's gone out of style, that being mid budget level based games and licensed games. Those concepts are so foreign to modern gaming that it really is basically another world.
Playing through Bulletstorm as Duke was actually the perfect way to play. The base game is so serious, grizzled highschool Wolverine, but Duke's attitude of "I'm not even supposed to be here" works perfectly. It was somehow the perfect double layers of 4th wall breaking that made my playtrough as Duke way more enjoyable.
Hello, 4 years after your original comment I am here to tell you that you are correct. Duke in Bulletstorm was a BLAST.

Considering that the 90s are universally considered retro and Halo was ‘01, it won’t be long until it’s *justifiably* considered retro.
That being said, they already did a graphical remaster of it, though.
it will soon be TWENTY YEARS since Halo. in computer terms that really is ancient.
@@guguigugu From what I gather, Yathz mainly thinks of retro games as older pixel-based games. But most of those would be ~20 years old when ZP started and near 30 now, and Halo 1 almost meets the former age. It is almost a retro game.

Also, considering that the munchkin was wearing a propeller beanie, Yahtzee was presumably referring to people that are younger than 18. Technically that's (probably) Gen Z, in 2017. Yahtzee, like many others, lazily misused the term "millennial" to refer to "young people."
I enjoy remastered editions as long they make the pc port better and they cost less. And maybe put in some extras that can fix a few problems within the game.
So...youre wanting tons of work to be put into the game and....it cost nearly nothing. Makes sense. Also, way to feel entitled that the PC port HAS to be better as well. Such is the way of the master race....
Rockymann27 Bro the work already was done, remastered games games are a piece of cake. Its just like turning up the PC settings to max. So I agree with the guy, Metro Redux, Bioshock Collection are the way remastered games should be made.
So you want to pay full price for a remaster that isn't better than the original? Sod off.
I think the purpose of these remasters is to bring the games to new platforms thus gaining more profit from that, not specifying which is the 'best' version.
Ubisoft did that with Watch_Dogs and look how well the game made.

It really comes as no surprise that companies are "remastering" new shit to make another buck off of work they've already done. After all, the games us players ASK to be remastered are blatantly ignored (Morrowind), while they just copy/paste the assets and scripts of a six year old game (Skyrim) into the updated engine of a newer game (Fallout 4).
CheffBryan Morrowind would be great.
CheffBryan games like planescape torment are great because they can't run on modern pcs. Not to mention they made a lot of improvements.
I think the perfect kind of remaster/remake that can be made is what they are making with the Yakuza Kiwami game, its Yakuza 1 with more... everything and in the current game engine with a million things added in to the story and overworld.
The Yakuza series in general goes above and beyond what is required in most games. No DLC bullshit, no microtransactions, tons of content, good gameplay AND good (if admittedly absurd) story. The only real issue with the series is some localization issues.
Here I go again, spending countless hours watching Yahtzee's videos until deep into the night.

Planescape Torment's fault is that if you don't know anything about DnD or, well, Planescape, then you're going to be very confused. Hence the labyrinth of dialogue trees trying to weave in all the necessary exposition to make things make sense.
Yeah a big fan of Yatzee but dismissing Torment is disappointing;. Ahh well can't win em all.

That game was fantastic. Shitty audio quality and dodgy tutorial level aside, the game is pure gold. Funny, great combat, hard difficulty without being needlessly punishing or unfair and really fun weapons.
Someday I'm going to order that game on Amazon again cos it's such a gem.

remasters done well are great especially for those who are a)too young b) missed it first time and c) just love the original and want to play again.
+krankyman None of those points warrant a remaster as everyone in those categories can just play the original again.
But what if you don't have the original HW? Also, remasters generally run and look better, generally.

There actually was DLC on the SNES, but only in Japan with a special add-on.
No I don’t think their was the super famicon had the satellaview but that broadcast full games in episodes like their telltale

seriously Planescape: Torment is amazing, I love it and Planescape in general so much.
It's closer to a visual novel then a RPG, though. You're expected to dump physical stats and boost intellectual ones to get the full expanse. I like visual novels a lot, just like I like low-combat D&D, so it's very much my thing. It being a fully immersive story is really the best thing for me.
But Yahtzee! What about all the money those defenseless studios need to survive?

The Duke Nukem joke is one of the best in recent years.
I used to hate remasters and remakes but after recently going through a house fire, I have started to appreciate them.
For example - I LOVED the dot hack GU series, and I wanted to re-aquire the games. However the 3rd game is STUPID expensive compared to the first two. Then GU Remaster was announced for the PS4. Not only could I order the game ahead of time, but I got it for 20 dollars LESS than the 3rd game on Ebay for all 3 games AND a 4th chapter added for fun.
Remasters and Collection packs have made the... rebuilding of my lost games collection SLIGHTLY easier. Plus for PS2 era games being remastered for PS4 and Xbox One I can enjoy replaying them and getting achievements and Trophies. I know they're useless but for me they're FUN to hunt.
Its nice when remastered games actually look alot better and even add new things.

I had the exact same problem with Space Channel 5. Figuring out when the game wanted me to press a button as opposed to when it was telling me to was a mighty struggle.
