    I have always wondered what those holes were at Neist Point, and elsewhere. These videos totally embody Scottish island fishing. Nirvana one day and blowing a hooley the next day with no fish. Brilliant.

      I was always curious too, since you see them at nearly all of the deep water marks on Skye. Turns out they used them like a pestle and mortar to chum up limpets/winkles etc and used that as ground bait to attract fish. That was the first time I've seen them on Orkney.

      Thanks Tommy, the beauty of Orkney is that history goes further back than the victorians, although their impact is easiest to see. Apparently, the Norse Orcadian's have been drying pollack long before before the Europeans were curing cod...fascinating place to fish and stay

    14:00 I use a different rod, but I've had the line get caught in the leg of the eye, it always seemed to be the knot that was getting caught, just an odd thing that would happen now and then with the way the eye is supported.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wondered if it was my knot but the FG has always worked nicely for me. Used the same setup on 6 different rods but this is the first I've had any issues with. I'll keep looking for a solution

  • @davedawson9851
    @davedawson9851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That looks like proper weather fella. I'd be interested to know in what pattern you've studded your boots and with how many 'cos it looks like a good idea to me but I'd guess that too many is as bad as too few. I'll sithi after! Dave

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you're right about both. Stud pattern wise, I followed the specific braking, propulsion and support lugs on the sole unit of my shoes. They've got a rocker so not all studs are in contact at all points. Think I've got 8 on each shoe. 4 on the heel 2 on the middle of the sole and 2 on the front. Might add another couple though, 1 in the centre of the toe and one under the forefoot.

  • @Oli.Brown.
    @Oli.Brown. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Only guesses with the tip wrap is leader knot and maybe to slow down on the cast, especially if you’re using a heavier lure?
    I nearly went for the tail walk as well.
    Thanks again for the video

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was my thought,Oli, but I've used this same setup, and fg, on 6 different knots and never experienced as many wraps as I've had on this rod. Line weight could be an issue, this High Tide SSD is rated for 0.8 PE and I'm using 0.6PE. Other than this issue, they're great rods. My 8.3 High Tide SSD was casting the same distance as my mate's 10ft Dialuna. Love my High Tide TZ though, not cheap but what an peach. Thanks again Oli and tight lines

  • @carlgustafson4982
    @carlgustafson4982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Nath, I only time I had constant issues with tasline was one particular combo. A 9'revolution and a 150 size van staal, but just tip wrapped time after time. If you're fishing into the wind on lighter gear, then you can end up with inconsistent tension on your spool, and which will result in the line not coming back off the spool evenly, and and you can end up with guide wraps that way

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found that out the hard way with wind knots, but it's been a thing of the past since I converted to Tasline. I heard those smaller Van Staal's had an issue with line twist/lay, could have been the reel that was causing your issue?

    • @carlgustafson4982
      @carlgustafson4982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SlippyLimpets after talking to Frank, (the main man at Busted Fishing and Tasline), he reckons it's a correlation between the spool diameter, and the size and position of the stripper guide. Moved to more 'wiry' line for that particular set up, no issues since. Those older Van Staals do have a strange line lay pattern, but for beach spinning, they"re unbelievable. Destroyed a couple of stradics before I took the plunge on a VS, never looked back. It's been submerged, and covered in sand, and covered in fish blood and guts, and all kinds, and just keeps coming back for more.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He may have something there. I watched to footage back in slow motion and you can see the coils coming out of the tip eye. Problem is, I can't bring myself to move to a different braid. I'd rather sell that rod 😂 I'm pretty heavy on my reels and looked at the VS before I got the BG Mag Sealed, they're half the price of the VS and seem to handle loads of abuse. If I manage to break one then the VS might be the next purchase

  • @stevendavison4814
    @stevendavison4814 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great stuff again mate. I would suggest it’s just the windy conditions causing tip/eye wraps mate. Take notice what the conditions are like when it does and doesn’t happen. 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, but why didn't it happen on my mates rod, granted it was 10ft compared to my 8.3 but the eyes and legs are the same brand and shame, even the same distancing but he never had an issue. Good suggestion though, it happened that frequently that I might start keeping a log and try and figure it out. Glad you liked the video and thanks for the comment

    • @stevendavison4814
      @stevendavison4814 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SlippyLimpets Aye it’s a strange one mate. Suppose it could be combination of things really when you think about it, line weight, lure weight, wind direction, casting like a Fanny 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣
      Haha I’m sure you’ll figure it out mate. Top man 👍🏻

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you've found the answer. Aside from casting like a fanny, the rod is rated to use 0.8PE and above, but I'm using 0.6PE

      I'll look into them, thanks, I normally put a big pair of socks over my boots (learnt that trick the hard way) 🤣
      Where you were at (towards Mull head) isn't really fished much. (Awsome in a boat)
      I've fished in the geos (coves) at the broch of deerness, I've taken halibut quite close in on the boat there, but generally it's just doggies, lithe or cod and the halibut remains a fantasy.
      Some of the marks south of the gloup in deerness would be fantastic for your lures. Also , Tankerness (Rerwick head) and along that coast is a favourite of mine in the summer 👌
      Birsay might be a good shout for you too on the West Side.
      Good wrasse fishing at Work in the summer, but not somewhere I've been very often (looks the part but quite shallow)
      There was a competition this weekend at the Barriers and South ronaldsay this weekend, one small turbot and a flounder Where I was fishing and Hoxa produced very little?
      Big tides and bonnie weather didn't really produce.
      Strangely poor.
      Looking forward to the spring now.
