- With small tides and unfavourable conditions, I decided to venture out with the lure rod for a few hours and do some general mixed fishing. At first, I'd try for bass whilst using some diving lures and surface lures. I'd then try throwing a small metal out on one of Guernseys well known marks, Fort Doyle.
Here, I'd be targeting pollock and anything else that bites.

Love this channel and makes it look so easy. I fish along several spots on north east coast of Ireland and not caught a single thing yet. I'm new to lure fishing so sticking with it but boy it is frustrating at times.
Too true about the dangers of wet rocks...Also the bow wave of ships..when you least expect it..nearly broke my wrist....I always walk on the barnacles now...better grip!

The larger Pollock was an excellent catch. When I was in the UK, I was on the ferry to Larne Ireland, I got Pollock n chips(battered, deep fried) what a surprise, it was delicious and up there with my favorites.

Youve got to book a weekend trip to the Beara in West Cork ireland mate. 4lbs is a an average one from the shore over here at times. Makes for some cracking sport

Fantastic pollack Cal - they are also great to catch and, like Wrasse, they head straight for the bottom or kelp snags so keep that drag tight! You need a net mate!

The gloves aren’t a fishing brand. They’re just some I got from a local DIY store. They’ve lasted well though.

Nice Pollock, Cal, absolute blinder, how'd it taste?
Weather is defo improving, the green flush has finally started throughout the hedgerows and spring is upon us.
I'm all tackled up, new rods, reel, lures, etc, so I'll be smashing some Cornish water in the next couple of weeks. One of the locals I work with is gonna take me out and share some invaluable local knowledge. I can't wait. Likely be out tomorrow and Sunday for a spot of LRF tiddler bashing just to get to grips with all my new kit.

I’ll be using a variety of lures mate. It all depends on what I’m targeting, where and when. I usually talk about the lures in the videos I make 👍🏼

It did yeah. It was tasty too. Pollock certainly isn’t a favourite of mine, I find it lacks a bit of flavour but seeing as I don’t have it that often it always goes down well.

I'm using a 9ft Shimano Aernos 7-35g rod mate.
We’ve seen the catch now you must show us the cook ! I’m interested to see what you do with Pollack. Curry ? Battered ?
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to film a cook with this one. You can do all sorts with pollock, obviously battered is nice but curries etc also work well as you can add a lot more flavour to it. 👌🏼
What’s the two best all round lures for beach fishing???
God, that’s a tough question! It really depends on a few factors. What kind of beach you’re fishing from, what time of year, what the ground is like, etc etc. If you’re fishing from a sandy beach then I find a sandeel imitation lure can be deadly. If it’s over something like a lugworm bed then a Dolive or something will work well. Sometimes I’ll using a shallow running diver straight from the beach at night and that’s always productive. I honestly couldn’t tell you the two best lures. There are many.

True. I find nets a pain to carry around though. You’d need a good extendable one for that spot.
What rod and reel setup you using mate? Is it good for both bass and pollock
It’s my bass set up mate. To be honest I normally use a Shimano Vanford 4000 on that rod for bass but I changed the reel to a Shimano Twin Power 5000. The rod is a Shimano Aernos 7-35g. It’s 9ft 👍🏼
What braid type and pound do you use mate
I use 20lb braid from Samson fishing. I've also used 26lb Daiwa J Braid for a while too and really like that.

Fish length is measured to the fork of the tail, not the tip.
@@thorfinnravenfeeder in certain clubs/comps yes. Most of the time it’s measured to the tip of the tail.

Thanks. Yeah the rocks can be a bit hairy in bad conditions. They’re ok on the small tides though.
Hi Cal , Could I asked the size of your line ? Was you using braid and leader?
I was using 20lb braid mate. I’m not sure on the diameter because it’s a prototype. I use a 20lb fluorocarbon leader, usually about 3ft long.
Thanks for that ! I use 20lb braid and 16 or 17lb fluoro. Just cant believe it held the weight of that fish it was chunky. I caught a 61cm pollock last summer weighed in at 5lb. Was just on a spinning rod. I am just getting into lure fishing atm. Would love to catch a bass but not so easy here in N.I
You should have a crack at fly fishing for them. Its fun.
I’ve never done any fly fishing before but some day I’d like to give it a go yeah. Would also like to fly fish for bass too 👌🏼
