    You are one of the very few English speaking content creators, who cares about pronunciation and syllable stress in foreign names. It was pleasing to hear how you nailed that "Vladislav Volkov" name.

    Just imagine, the funeral of a Soviet cosmonaut, that ends with.:
    "He went into space, sadly, upon reentry a pack of hungry wolves ate him."
    Yeah, i think i see the reason for the gun.

  • @timothymclean
    @timothymclean 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Just because Pluto has some neat stuff doesn't mean it deserves planetary classification; it's still distinctly different from the eight planets in how it interacts with other bodies. It probably doesn't deserve its own classification, either, though we haven't studied other Kuiper Belt dwarf planets enough to say how normal it is.
    I imagine that most successful alien species would have at least some concept of clothing, for the same reasons we do. Maybe they wouldn't if they evolved in the coldest part of their world (and had to instead find ways to keep cool elsewhere), but they would still find certain types of clothing (footwear, at least horseshoe-types; belts and pouches; armor) very useful.

      Plus if you include pluto then you have no real grounds for not including like half a dozen other objects and inflating the number of planets excessively.

    • @spider91fc
      @spider91fc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Timothy McLean
      Okay I'm no expert in this area, things that do not classify as a planet such as comets and meteors are chunky fragments or a consolidation of chunky fragments rotating on an eccentric axis if it even rotates, but clearly not spherical in shape. Again I am not an expert but I would personally consider anything that orbits the Sun on the same plane that we, do that is perceivably "perfectly" spiracle, and dense enough to have volcanic action a planet. And yes some moons of planets are bigger than Pluto, I would say is that a moon is a roll and not a size. Anything that revolves around a bigger object in orbit of our son should be categorized as a moon

    • @BiscuitFever
      @BiscuitFever 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well humans are pretty much the only species that wears any clothing at all. There’s no reason to think it’s common, we’re the only example of a sample size of one.

    Actually Pluto is the new king of it's category, the plutoids or something like this. It was demoted because a thousand other objects ( including bigger ones ) were found around the same orbit as Pluto. IT didn't make sense to have so much planets, so they made a new category. People just get upset because they think it's somewhat bad that a planet gets demoted , especially if they is an innocent dog somewhere in the story. I suggest you hear what Neil de Grasse Tyson has to say about this , it's pretty funny and scientifically interesting.

    • @JohnMichaelGodier
      @JohnMichaelGodier  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wouldn't say a slam dunk, just that the star is behind the sun ATM and not observable, and nothing new has come out. This could change on a dime, and has done so in the past, so the moment something pops up I'll have a video out within hours. Until then, it's sort of in limbo.

    Fascinating thoughts on the Pascale-B shot. The Wikipedia says the blast was at approx 4PM local time, so that's roughly 60 deg past local noon, so 150 deg from Earth's orbital velocity vector about the Sun. Going with the stated velocity of 66km/sec, that's 33 km opposite Earth's orbital vector of 28 km/sec, so in the tangential direction that's a resultant velocity vector of -5km/sec with the radial component being -57 km/sec. So this manhole cover was shot inward to the solar system against Earth's orbital motion with a velocity of ~57 km/sec. I wonder if -5km/sec is enough angular momentum to miss the Sun at aph-helion. Hyperbolic excess seems to be on the order of ~16 km/sec.

I was at the Dayton Ohio National Museum of the United States Air Force and just by the exit door was a pedestal with a glass cover on it over a small patch of cloth, about 1 inch square. The description stated it was a bit of cloth from the original wright flyer. It had been taken to the moon's surface and returned to earth!! I almost missed it.

Like creatures that have adapted to the differing depths of earths ocean's. This question has probably been considered and answered but still... there always New answers and ideas to age old questions.

    I find it odd that anyone thinks that the manhole cover made it to space given that instead of starting to burn when hitting air far too thin to breath it started with nice thick atmosphere.

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, quite so. And the air friction only deals with the front of it. It had an atomic explosion on the other side of it, less than a thousand feet away. Catch is, the way this story started was they had a sharp & clear radar return of a reflective object, travelling at three times the escape velocity of the earth, on radar. They had to go through afterwards and figure out what it was they had seen, and then realise it was the manhole cover... That's why we know about it. I am not entirely familiar with all the details, but I'm pretty sure they tracked it from ground level to over 60,ooo ft or something in less than a second, and it was still a shiny object (flat, metallic, reflective) when it went out of range....

      Also, you're assuming the plate kept the same orientation. Air resistance would likely flip it on edge, reducing friction and how much heat was generated.

    There were other nudes. On one of the Apollo landing missions the checklist booklet had xeroxed copies of Playboy playmates. And Andy Warhol contributed some art that looked suspiciously like a cock and balls, English-style.
    SpaceX flew a wheel of cheese on the first Falcon 1 mission as well.

      We have another collab coming soon, so I've been arming myself with random lithium facts. I've even found a cheese making process that uses it. Oh yes, lithium will have its day yet ...
