@ Finn MacCool. Go for it! Will be good for your recovery back to rational thinking. I mean, it's an interview with a star trek actor and there wasn't any science discussion, but it certainly isn't political content. The less you spend time on that stuff, the better off you'll be. There's a whole other world out there that you're about to discover.

I'm glad you brought up farming as it's something most people don't consider. Only 1%-2% of the US population are farmers and very few of them know how to grow without commercial fertilizers and pest controls.

The aftermath was horrible and it eventually caused our extinction.

    a) Great work!
    b) We need you to do a video (or a whole series of videos) about CRISPR-Cas9 (and title it as such), detailing the possible near-future scenarios we could be facing.
We could make dinosaurs. We could cure every disease, blindness, deafness. We could eliminate entire species.
    We could rewrite humanity.
We could switch ethnicity for the weekend.
We could make clones / imposters.
We could weaponize it. We could end up sterile. We could [edit: grey-goo] ourselves. We could have Khan and a eugenics war.

"Not enough population growth" will never cause extinction by itself, because if the the population drops below the level needed to sustain industrial civilization, there would be civilizational collapse (Dark Ages), thus shifting back to agrarian economy, traditional society and much higher birth levels. But not the extinction, IMHO. By the way, thank you for your videos. Great futurology and thoughts about the universe. By the way, I write SciFi books about global disasters and human extincion myself (in my native language), ranging from nuclear war to robots and AI getting out of control.

The complexity and fragility of our world and the universe is staggering. To think all our achievements can be wiped out by an errant rock hurtling through intergalactic space to pulevrise our entire domain is just absurd. And to think no-one anywhere would even notice or care. Billions of years of evolution up in smoke and noone bats an eyelid.

I rather enjoyed the end-o-vid banter a goodly sight more than the actual content...
That's not to say, though, that the content was uninteresting. Not at all. Indeed, it lived up to my expectations. However, in doing so, there was little unexpected content. This, in turn, seemed to highlight the unexpected nature of the after-show banter, making it unexpectedly enjoyable.
    Cheers :)

Interesting video the EMP from a solar flare is a scary scenario to me mainly because if memory serves in 1859 one hit and fried a lot of telegraph lines here in the U.S. Imagine the havoc one like that would cause today. Thanks for the video John looking forward tomorrow.

The unfortunate fact is we aren't building space colonies. And its a tragedy because we can. The tech already exists. But selfish people do not want their precious money being spent on anything that, by definition, will only benefit other people.
