I agree, That Bluetooth dongle is amazing! I also got two. I wanted to get 4 but I read that the N64 may or may not have a hard time pushing that much power to all 4 receivers. I think it depends on the state of your power supply. Great video!

The N64 was and controller was something you had to be alive at the time for to appreciate. Just walking around in Mario 64 with the analog stick was mind blowing. Never did you think you could have that much control in a video game. It single handedly launched the modern way of how a 3D game should feel.

To me it is the complete opposite. I absolutely loved the SNES, but the N64 had no soul to me. Nothing about it felt right, from the library of games (especially the lack of RPGs) to the controller I could never get used to. While I appreciated the Gamecube and Wii U, for me it took until the Switch to experience that same completeness that the SNES offered.

For me, who loves wireless controls, blurretro is the best thing that has happened to retrogaming lately. I made an internal blurretro mod for my N64 with an ESP32 chip and I also use an N64 controller from NSO. I also made the Bluretro bluetooth mod to my Gamecube, NES Retrousb AVS, 3DO, Atari Jaguar, PC Engine DUO and PS1.

It's nice to see you do a review on a product you like! The last few have been doozies.
You know, I agree with you about the controller. NO ONE complained about it in the late 90s. The internet changed that perspective.

    • @tidepoolclipper8657
      @tidepoolclipper8657 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The internet certainly played a part, but a few other things occurred or showed up that contributed to its decayed reputation.
The arrival of the Dualshock version of the Playstation controller showed that adding padding is honestly a good idea. Especially after what happened with Mario Party 1, which accidentally made people begin to slowly turn against that controller. The arrival of the significantly more comfortable GCN controller did a number on the perception once had with Nintendo's official N64 controller design. Oh, and there's the fact that the analog stick was made of plastic that wasn't study enough.

My N64 setup: HDMI N64Digital, Bluetooth receiver as shown with official NSO controller, Everdrive, Expansion Pak = pure bliss. The N64 was the first console I was truly hyped about on release. I still remember the day when my father came home for my bday with a huge Toys R Us bag. I played Super Mario 64 for the whole evening it was great. I never found the controller to be strange or uncomfortable (except when it chewed the palm of my hand playing Mario Party). I wore fingerless gloves after that for future sessions.

It got the RGB mod on mine, wish I had the HDMI mod. I use the RGB mod with the HD retrovision Super Nintendo component cables and they work on the Nintendo 64 if you have the RGB mod so I still play on a 480p TV. You definitely right though that ever drive is a must have even though I had a lot of the games all ready for my 64 around 80. That ever drive the oh my God so many games that I never got to play. It's definitely worth it. I got the jungle green one and a jungle green controller to match it, I have the regular N64 one and I have the retrovision Xbox one style remake of the 64 controller. Fit's in your hand like an Xbox s type controller. Love it,great setup.

Are you using a stock N64 console? Also how's the emulation on the Everdrive cart? I've always wanted to try that, but haven't yet.

I would say i dislike the n64 on day one, but i would say i like a few games a decade later.
Some of that stuff improves the 64.

I remember the Rumble was strong on Starfox 64. Does the NSO controller feel like it has less rumble to it, or is it about the same?

I have the blueretro N64 adapter..and it feels laggy with the NSO N64 controller :(. It's random though. Most of the time it's perfect then out of nowhere I get like a .5 second delay on inputs for 10 or so seconds.
Also I don't have an everdrive or a way to do a controller test. Would you mind doing the controller test with the NSO controller and the new adapter?

The controller could’ve been better, it is part of the experience though, aside from that I love the N64 I love the experience of playing 3d games that are on a cartridge, from RE2 to Vigilante plus the other games that had ports on other consoles and the Nintendo exclusives were fun. I still enjoy the Cruisin series and the other staples of the Nintendo 64 Library such as Mario Kart, 007 etc

My favorite N64 color, orange and black. Its a Japanese exclusive.. Daiei N64. Sold only in Daiei stores as a limited edition in Japan. They estimate there was around 5-10,000 of them produced... no exact numbers... but its a little difficult to find them in perfect condition. I mostly see them faded or with weird sun damage. I paid probably too much for mine lol, but it was in fairly close to perfect condition so it was worth it to me.

i feel like the wii remote was an evolution of the n64's. hell, the nun chuck is literally the middle prong of the n64 with a better stick, and extra button. you turn the controller sideways or vertical for sports, aiming, motion, ect, and use the nunchuck for 3d games and other things that support analog movement. similar to switching your grip on the n64. thats how i see it atleast.I love the controller to death, but the sticks are super annoying to replace.

My opinion of that controller began to sour after receiving a hand injury with the original Mario Party. Later on acquiring the significantly more comfortable GCN controller is what truly made me turn against the first party N64 controller. To this day, I'd rather use the Hori64 along with the Retro-Bit and 8bitdo offerings in this day and age. Especially as Nintendo was too lazy to add padding to the NSO version of the controller. One of the only rewasons I'd ever use the first party would be due to Goldeneye 007 and even then the controls there haven't aged in stellar fashion.

I just got my adapter in today. Have some issues. No problem connecting controllers to it but it won’t “rumble”. Also, I can’t connect to the website for memory card formatting or controller mapping, etc. none of my computers will recognize the device. And yes, I followed the instructions. No controllers were connected. Frustrating. Anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a fix for it? Haven’t heard back from customer service yet.

As long as I want to play with an original N64 controller wireless, I just got so used to the RetroFighters Brawler controller that I can't justify the purchase of this. But I'm seriously considering getting one of these dongles with a NSO N64 controller to see if I end up liking it.
