I love 70s hard rock...be it Free, Bad Company, Kiss, Aerosmith, Sweet, Foghat, Edgar Winter Group etc, and you are the only youtuber that directly addresses the guitar tones I love and want to replicate. Thank you Johan.
I really love Hendrix's live Marshall tone, during moments where he wasn't using alot of effects. I do like his usage of effects, but he often had a really good tone during moments without the effects. Granted, his style wasn't straight up hard rock like what came later. But aside from that, the whole decade of the 70's following his death was the best era for hard rock guitar tones IMO. I do like the higher gain stuff that came later, but I still prefer the old school cranked Marshall sound that came before that.
The reverb really makes a difference in sounding "live". You're almost at 100k subscribers which is way lower than it should be. You should be at least a million by now, considering you're one of the go-to sources in this kind of stuff and sound experiments.
You have a great channel and have provided players a wealth of information. I have to tell you, you sound like you regardless of what you play. Your hands shine through more than any particular rig.
Great work Johan.... As usual. I rarely comment but I've been watching your videos for a couple years now. 1977 was a good year for me When it came to Kiss. I bought my first kiss album, Hotter Than Hell in 77. I remember being enthralled with not only the music but the pictures on the cover. 14 years later a CD wouldn't have had the same effect. That same year, I bought kiss alive. I literally played that album until I wore it out. In the autumn of 77, Kiss came to town. I got to see the original lineup during their tour through Canada. It was a good concert though their makeup was a little sloppy. Lol Decades later, kiss alive one has become a classic. Full of great rifts and lead work. I'm in my fifth decade now and I still love listening to that album
Great experiment Johan. When I was in high school, my friend was taking drum lessons. The teacher’s brother was a guitar player and ex roadie. He said that his good friend was a roadie for kiss at the height of their heyday with Ace on guitar. He said behind the wall of empty Marshall cabs were a only a few Fender Twins with nothing else!
I guess I was too old for Kiss in their day. Man I love that tone you've brewed! You're tones so good, got me going back listening to KISS for the first time!
Your shots of nature reminds me our trip to Sweden last week. We were in Gothenburg and around on Islands Styrso and Donso. I belive that ur even around there if I remeber well your balcony intro shots in earlier videos. What an nice country you live at :) Cheers from Prague.
Love this! Johan, you need to get a review done on the PRS HDRX 100 head. Best vintage ‘Marshall’ on the market by a country mile. Not just for Hendrix tones but if you choose to use a strat through it’s just sublime.
hi John, great job as always. ok it's quite close. I've read that in studio Ace was utilizing small Fender combo and since Alive! has been created in studio, I would be not surprised to know they did used that even for Alive!. I tried my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a Guv'Nor and was killer too.
Joh, I just got myself a GRETSCH G5222, I really like the sound of it. You should do a few vids combining a guitar like this with various Marshalls etc! Would be a really CRUNCHY sound with those 'Tron style pick ups!
Kiss Alive 2 is the Album I keep going too. What rackmount effects was used. I saw ace in 2019 and he was using Zoom G3. I more interested in the phaser sound on Peter Criss drum solo.
Awesome brother. I feel Alive as well as Live and Dangerous, All the worlds a stage and Strangers in the night and if you want blood nail that classic cranked Marshall sound
I think Alive! is a truly great record. I know it was touched up in the studio but i'm ok with that. Ace made me pick up a guitar and i still love his tone and playing. He does his part and gets out, doesn't just wank away for no reason.
Man, that's a great tone, Johan! Sooo close. You'd get even closer by dropping to Eb standard. That really makes a big difference in the tone from my experience. Adds a throatiness to it.
Can you add a link to the exact schematic that you used, please? I'm working on a hybrid combo, that combines Fender blackface clean tones with this kind of Marshall overdrive...
The closest I sounded to Ace was using a Les Paul with a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position, and ......a JCM 900 SLX 100 watt with 5881 tubes played at an overdrive preamp level matching Alive! ( no crazy distortion, but beautiful harmonic drenched crunch ), and the master volume loud, but not ear splitting volume! I have many '70 Superlead 100 and 50 watters, but that JCM 900 SLX set at moderate overdrive is just crazy plexi zenith tone! A four by twelve cab with Celestion greenbacks of course....
To be honest, I can always hear the kiss influence in all your videos. I’ve always said Cold Gin is a benchmark of Marshall tone. I’m surprised you didn’t play it. I’m one of the fans who were 12 years old when the album came out and it was the first album I ever bought. I played it constantly and then bought a guitar.
My goodness you’ve finally arrived at the place of the Holy Grail, after many years and long travels, that magical tone is right in front of us thanks to you. You’re the Indiana Jones of plexi tone. Now gather your gear and start that never ending journey once again
Hey Johan, players online (you know how they can be) call the OR 15 the most marshally modern Orange amp. A video of you cranking one would be really cool.
The combination of Engl and Hughes and kettner that they were using on the last few tours live was the best rock tones I’ve ever heard. Both directly from the cabinet and at front of house.
Grew up on these tones. I love it. It’s crazy never thought it in my youth but we live in a world that and yea l will be that guy that asks. Can l get sone Kemper profiles of this 😊
Awesome. I love how deep you go about tone. I was wondering if you have ever covered Mick Ronson and his 200 watt Marshall "The Pig". His tone on Cracked Actor is the filthiest Marshall tone ever!! Thank you.
I don’t comment that often but this channel is my guilty pleasure. Thanks Johan
Thanks man! Makes my day to hear that. I love your work!
😮
Same ola
👁️👁️ does the marshall chug?
OLA!!!!!!! Yes!!! We need to see an Ola + Johan interview one day.
I love 70s hard rock...be it Free, Bad Company, Kiss, Aerosmith, Sweet, Foghat, Edgar Winter Group etc, and you are the only youtuber that directly addresses the guitar tones I love and want to replicate. Thank you Johan.

I believe you got it!!! 🔥🔥🔥
KISS's guitar tones have been some of my all-time favorites from ANYONE for over 40 years now. Just so good!
If there ever will be a Nobel prize category called ALIVE ! There is no question who will be the winner . Fantastic sound !!
Nailed it ! 🎸🔊😊
Thanks my friend 😂
Sounds great Johan! I love the fact that a Marshall 1974X and a Les Paul Custom, plus recording gear, are essential holiday items!
Thanks Eddie! Yeah I never leave home without them 🤘
I love it that you dig Ace so much!!! He's always been one of my favorites. By the way, great playing!!!
I'm taking from me I'm 62 years old and I have been a kiss fan my whole life. You absolutely nailed the tone. Nice guitar work as well!
Alive was the first KISS album i bought as a kid and although it's been a few years, i could instantly recognize the tone. Well done, Johan!
Thanks! Glad to hear it
Oh man, you're the professor when it comes to amp sounds! Keep that up brother!
You have a great channel and have provided players a wealth of information. I have to tell you, you sound like you regardless of what you play. Your hands shine through more than any particular rig.
i must say to the 5 year old child i was when this album came out, kiss rules!still luv em after all these years...
Ace had a totally unique approach . Love the fact you are a 70's Kiss fan. The reason i have a burst and several Marshalls is Ace. Thanks Johan.
Glad to hear it! Cheers
You hit bullseye There.superb Tone and playing. And what a beautiful guitar.
Wow man ! Exciting tones . God bless keep up the treat demos . Marshall is the sound of rock .

Love that video, it deserves hundreds of thousands more views
Johan, I totally agree that KISS Alive is THE Marshall rock and roll tone 🤘🏼and Ace is the man! You really nailed it here. Kudos!
Thanks man! It’s great to hear that!
Man, that sounds amazing.

Thanks really good to hear that!
Love it man! Sounded super close. I appreciate that you’re a huge Kiss lover too!! Gibsons, Marshalls, and KISS - perfect combo for a great video
Glorious tone, love the sound of reverb with a nice Marshall crunch.
KISS and The Beatles are the reason more people learned to play guitar than all the others.
And Van Halen.....
And… Van Halen
Maybe the Beatles… Kiss? Not really 😕
Yea NO!
Superb tone. Thanks so much for your constant enthusiasm. Love your videos!
Killer jam. Love that tone.
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
I think this is my favorite tone you ever shown us.
Your shots of nature reminds me our trip to Sweden last week. We were in Gothenburg and around on Islands Styrso and Donso. I belive that ur even around there if I remeber well your balcony intro shots in earlier videos. What an nice country you live at :) Cheers from Prague.
Fantastic tone! You nailed it for sure!
Bunk bed jamming, love it. Kiss Alive was my gateway into rock when I was 4. I'm with you on that being the monster KISS tone to chase.
Thanks Matthew! Glad you like it
Doesnt ace say he used a pb-1 booster ?🤟🤟
You NAILED it this time 👌🏻 very very good job ! The mic pre is doing some of the job i think :)
Thanks! Many factors in getting the tone
I don't know how much closer you can get than that! Sounds great Johan. Cheers!
Amazing tone and playing Johan! 👊🏻 🎸
99.9k Subs!!! Congrats. Well earned!
Love this! Johan, you need to get a review done on the PRS HDRX 100 head. Best vintage ‘Marshall’ on the market by a country mile. Not just for Hendrix tones but if you choose to use a strat through it’s just sublime.
saw them open for ZZ Top in 74. Loved the Marshall stacks. Sounds great as always
Terrific tone and playin! Was hoping to hear “Cold Gin’ - you may need to do another video!
You have nailed that tone....great work.
Thanks glad to hear that!
I recently listened to alive for the first time and I instantly thought the tone sounded like your videos!
hi John, great job as always. ok it's quite close. I've read that in studio Ace was utilizing small Fender combo and since Alive! has been created in studio, I would be not surprised to know they did used that even for Alive!. I tried my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a Guv'Nor and was killer too.
Lets Go! As soon as I saw the amp knew I was in for treat of toney goodness.
Joh, I just got myself a GRETSCH G5222, I really like the sound of it.
You should do a few vids combining a guitar like this with various Marshalls etc!
Would be a really CRUNCHY sound with those 'Tron style pick ups!
He did some videos a long time ago with a 12 string Gretsch country gentleman into Marshall and sounded killer!
@@mohamedtlass3842 I vaguely remember that!
I bet it sounded good!
The Electromatic line are seriously GOOD instruments!
Wow, that sounds amazing!!
Thanks Christopher!
Kiss Alive 2 is the Album I keep going too. What rackmount effects was used. I saw ace in 2019 and he was using Zoom G3. I more interested in the phaser sound on Peter Criss drum solo.
that sounds really good___________ straight trip to 1970
Awesome brother. I feel Alive as well as Live and Dangerous, All the worlds a stage and Strangers in the night and if you want blood nail that classic cranked Marshall sound
Great playing and superb tone Johan! That album is 🔥
I think you nailed it. Great job Johan.
Cheers from Hawaii. Aloha, Darrell

we see a new Johan video, we click! great job as always
I just bought one of these, it nails everything from country, Jazz to classic rock. I wasn't expecting that tbh.
Yeah, it’s the ultimate recording amp
This is exactly what my home-made 18w 1974x clone sounds like! ❤❤❤
Glad to hear it
Is it a Trinity kit?
Can you add a link to the exact schematic that you used, please? I'm working on a hybrid combo, that combines Fender blackface clean tones with this kind of Marshall overdrive...
Yep, this is the pinnacle of Marshall tone. Period. Thanx Johan!
That is unbelievable Marshall tone 🤯
Bravo, Johan! 🤠
Actually sounds better than the album to my ear! Thanks, Johan!
Thanks David! Great to hear that!
Dude.....Superbly done!
Thanks man!
Sounds great, love the reverb too! Btw, cute studio you got there 😉 Good job!
Johan needs holiday more often, change of scenery. Nailed it brother!
Låter helt fantastiskt!
Tack! Gott att höra!
OOFTA!!! Just great. All great!
Thanks! Glad you like it
Yep! That's the sound alright! Spot on!
Might be the best tone i've heard on the channel. The amp sounds like it's running hot, although i suppose the super distortion takes it up a notch
Oh man, that is heavenly. Well fucking done, Johan!
That’s a fantastic tone
The 4k boost works perfect with the dimarzio sd muddy character. I would like to see how you have the bridge pickup set up.
Especially the part right after Firehouse sounded extremely Ace-y! Nailed his tone and vibrato perfectly. 🤘
Thanks, really glad to hear that!
Thats pretty much the same rig Ace used on the reunion tour in 1996, they're great amps!
Unbelievable beautiful Les Paul,
Thanks! Yeah I love the looks of it
I know I'm not the only guy singing along loudly!! Cheers, Johan!!
So awesome. Thanks for doing this!
I started playing guitar back in 1976, KISS is the reason I stuck with it.
Sounds great Johan...........
Thank You Sir
Thanks! Great to hear that!
Same here but in 1978, and the song that blew me away was Detroit Rock City.
This is the type of video I've been waiting for!! 😮😮
Cheers!
Really beautiful!
Thanks Bengan!
That's the tone right there!!
You sure know your Kiss... Wonderful playing!
Killer KISS rig! Grew up with Alive as benchmark tone - you’re as close as I’ve heard in many decades. Love the Cherry Burst Custom - ‘70’s I assume?
Fantastic tone!
Spot on, Johan!
Thanks!
My goodness you’ve finally arrived at the place of the Holy Grail, after many years and long travels, that magical tone is right in front of us thanks to you. You’re the Indiana Jones of plexi tone.

Cool, I didn’t know that
Working to have my own good tone is much simpler but you did get the Kiss tone.
Wow, that is the tone!
Thanks man! Great to hear that!
Great sound Johan!
Thanks Joseph!
I agree. That is very very close to Ace Frehley's tone. I'm going to try that miking technique... My condenser mics tend to never leave their cases.
The tone sounds really close! Good job man!
Sounds amazing!
Superb upload my friend.great tone.🌹👍❤🙏🎸
Thanks my friend!
pure rock n roll guitar tone
Thanks, glad you like it!
Their guitars sounded great on Alive 1, it's like an hour and a half ad for Gibson and Marshall.
Grew up on these tones. I love it. It’s crazy never thought it in my youth but we live in a world that and yea l will be that guy that asks. Can l get sone Kemper profiles of this 😊
Thats some tasty lookin' Les Paul Custom.
Thanks man! Yeah the perfect cosmetics
Awesome. I love how deep you go about tone. I was wondering if you have ever covered Mick Ronson and his 200 watt Marshall "The Pig". His tone on Cracked Actor is the filthiest Marshall tone ever!! Thank you.
Thanks Antonio! I’ve done the Pig but not explicitly Mick Ronsons great ton yet
Underbart, tack Johan! ❤
Love this !!!! Thank You !!!!
