Yesterday after watching your Realm Reborn story retrospective I was wondering if you created a Heavensward version, lo and behold you release it right when I was looking for it.
I really appreciate this series as I'm going through MSQ right now and trying my best to be on time for Dawntrail. There is so much story content throughout, so it's been sometimes hard for me to retain the information while going through the game, but it helps a lot to have these retrospectives to fill in any gaps I have created and to have some decent analysis at play. Easily subscribed - I look forward to your Stormblood video.
I think the idea was that the warriors of darkness were basically preparing to steal the heroes bodies. As ethereal beings their bodies were stolen and had reached their limits with their constant forced resurrections. They would have overpowered everyone with the ancient crystals of light considering they are exponentially more powerful and tied to their souls but by connecting to Hydalyn she took back the crystals and made Minfilia physical again.
The only highlight of that break we take to make the aether ram, is that we get a chance to get more characterization of Y'shtola. I felt like ARR didn't really develop the individual Scions much beyond (mostly) Alphinaud and Tataru, so any chance to develop them is welcome. Also the theme for Azys Lla slaps so it made the exploration easier.
Actually half of the 12 knights survive, not 4 as you stated. 2 leave the order, to become common men, the remaining 4 found the Nobel houses. Thus is why the bloodline flows between all people's both high born and low, a secret kept from the citizen descendents. One of the 2 who left puts down his sword and even states that he will open an ale house and serve the common man.
The ONE thing i genuinely disliked about this expansion was the Nanamo stuff. Not only did it take us away from what we cared about, but just like you said, it completely undermines all the intrigue I had at the end of ARR
@acritical yesss!! I really like that you recount the story and you are giving your opinion at the same time. Many times I was laughing because I felt the same way as you in many parts of the game. I like your style!

This might actually be better than playing through the game itself

Amazing video!
