- Here's a full wash with a super cool digital Maytag Dependable Care that came into the shop. Has a bit of a squeak on the spin cycle, but other than that, standard Maytag goodness.

Love that washer. So quiet. Maytag quality you cannot find today.
Love that control/display setup..very 80's
I bought this model and matching dryer back in 1989-ish. I remember I purchased them at Montgomery Wards. lol Washer was pretty good, was never happy with the turnover, and the dryer ran very hot, even on the low setting. After about a year, the dryer display would show these thin red lines across the display and make a sort of buzzing sound. Even when it was turned off. What a fun memory of yesteryears, thanks Eugene.
I have to say those internal components were durable and easy access to see what was happening inside.
This reminds me of my grammas mid 80s Maytag Laundry center, it had a white tub in the washer with the small turquoise powerfin agitator. The whole control panel was digital, lots of chrome accents definitely the nicest laundry center washer dryer ever built
You're the only other person I've seen that mentioned that specific laundry center. My parents bought one and it was the washer we had for most of my childhood. Made it until 2008/9 when the outer tub finally rusted through after years on terribly hard well water.
@@FantomLightning That’s awesome! Not one video of this machine has ever been on TH-cam it’s such a rare and short lived model, I believe it was the first Maytag laundry center they made. Ironically, my grandma got rid of hers in 2008 as well because apparently the dryer burnt up she claimed. Her husband, my grandfather, was a big Maytag fan and purchased all Maytag appliances and only Maytags, but unfortunately he passed a year before their laundry center dryer burnt up and my gramma wasn’t handy. It was sad to see such a high quality machine get thrown out for such little reasoning but I was 8 at the time…Her tub in the washer was rust/orange stained at the top rim I can remember. Funny we both had the same machine in our own family’s and they both got tossed at the same time!
Maytag had a corkscrew agitator in the 90s. You should swap agitators if you can find one. I hated this original agitator back then the washer came with. Then the auger one came out in later models and i switched it over to that design agitator. Worked so much better with large loads and turnover.
I was thinking the same thing! The only weird thing would be there probably wasn't an LAT model with electronic control panel that came with that style agitator.
I was hoping we'd get a new washer video soon, given it's been a while since one has been released, and this one did not disappoint. Normally I prefer analog controls, but the digital controls on this particular machine were really cool. Looking forward to seeing more loads on this machine!
Got a set of these from the original owners who never had kids, so very lightly used. I tore the washer down and put a rebuilt pitman transmission with a Powerfin agitator and performed some other restoration tasks. Both the washer and dryer work well.
Slow and gentle rollover allows the agitator to really scrub the clothes and apply every bit of the soap. One of the best washers made.
I have always wanted to see one in action. Thank you so much.
I have a 1987 Kenmore Limited Edition Electronic Fabric Care washer and dryer that are still working perfectly. No major repairs.
It would have been interesting if you could have shown the control panel as the cycle progressed.
On mine, as the washer fills, the water level indicator shows the current level with solid LEDs and the set level with a flashing LED.
I like that mine has START, STOP and CANCEL buttons.
It goes to show that well designed and engineered electronic controls can stand up to time, moisture and vibration.
Oh yes-I like that mine also as LEDs that show what phase the cycle is in (WASHING, RINSING, SPIN, etc.)
Even though this is my favorite Maytag agitator, the original power fin really kicks ass with this transmission. I think it would actually just wear out the brake package and perhaps that’s why they made this agitator instead.
I’d love to see a small load of cottons in this! Thanks for sharing!
I’m with you I’d love to see the 2 piece dual action agitator in this machine. Would be awesome!
I had the opportunity to play with one of these many years ago. Regarding the turnover….I know for a fact that the RINSE TIME can be adjusted from 2 minutes up to a maximum of 7 or 9 minutes.
I cannot remember whether the machine had to be in the rinse portion of the cycle to make this adjustment or if it could be done during the initial control selection prior to starting the cycle. Also, if my memory is correct….the adjustment to the rinse agitation time would be saved for that cycle until you adjusted it back to 2 minutes. I think it would be interesting to play with and find out as 2 or 4 more minutes of rinse time would have rinsed this pants load perfectly
I like to see the gentle cycle in the future
Those pre 1996 single action agitators hindered an otherwise bullet proof machine. The years after, until Maytag sold out to Whirlpool in 2006, were the best for their Dependable Care machines.
That's true, because this load needed a dual action agitator.
Would love to own it when your ready to sale it.
This is overloaded for this machine plus those pants, any top loader would have an issue with them.
The older long stroke vintage Maytag would’ve probably handled this load better.
Love the sounds! My lg front loader is silent. Even when spinning
I want it! How much would you sell it for? I’m in Florida. Will pay shipping.
Hey I would like to find one Simple Display. I like the water fill button.
Nice video
It is rare. I have never known that older style Maytag to be anything other than timer dial operated.
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS WASHER SINCE I HAD THE MATCHING GAS DRYER IN 2019 I CANT BELIEVE YOU HAVE ONE
They are hard to find! I’ve only seen 3 or 4 online over the past 5 years or so.
I'd like to see the new LG wt6105cw washer running, apparently it has something different mechanically than the other LG top loaders being made right now
I think this was built right before the Neptune front load washer came out.
Another overloaded washer!
Shows nicely why detergent should be added first, not on top of the load. The load size is OK and rollover is normal for this agitator. A longer wash time would compensate accordingly on these items.
I dont understand how later computers don't last this long!
Cost cutting. Cheaply made
China made.
Poor quality components
Cheap component parts.

That looks like pre-Whirlpool Maytag. I'm surprised that the digital display still works.
This was still the original maytag

And arguably the best.
You don't know nothing about washer companies during this time which is the 80s it's the original Maytag company
A True Maytag, neither a Norge nor Whirlpool.
Is that one of the load sensor agitators?
Unfortunately I had to condemn a 30 year old Maytag washer because the tub seal kit is no longer available. 😢
It is not a Load Sensor agitator, those have an auger ... dual-action style.
If someone could make aftermarket parts for restoring vintage\older Washing Machine (Whirlpool Wigwag Belt-Drives & Direct Drives, Maytag's Pittman & Orbital Dependable Care, and GE Filter Flos & the 1996 GE Profile Washer design with the small transmission and the plastic inner tub).
Bombomaytag
The modern Whirlpool commercial would be able to handle 5 comfortably and even 6 with turnover but 7 is pushing it for lined work pants .
Thats how top loaders should spun out the water
This washer … does not seem to wash.
