    "Often imitated, never duplicated"
    MGA giving Bratz the slogan "Only Bratz are Bratz" and changing their main one to "The *Only* Girls with a Passion for Fashion" was the perfect not-so-subtle jab at Mattel's clear desperation to capitalize on the success MGA was having lol

    The whole look of the Mattel Bratz remember me of the jade's dream episode where they turn into Tweevils "it was supposed to destroy not desfigure" I can totally see Mattel saying that after putting the lawsuit

    Honestly this is was gets to me about Mattel. Instead of when they saw what the release of Bratz did to the doll market. They could have taken a step back, analyze what isn't working for them for Barbie. And then come out with a revamped new look for Barbie. Instead they did what so many companies from that Era do. If they can't be a monopoly, sue like crazy. Cause that makes sense 🙄. Like MGA is healthy competition for them, and was making Mattel think out of the box in like over 40 something years. As the target demographic at that time, the reason I went so heavy after Bratz. Is because I a person of color. With Barbie I always felt like POC was an after thought. But with Bratz not only were we pushed heavily but also each doll felt different. They all came with their own unique fashion that fit their personality. Also they did Alternative fashion, which was amazing since Punk/Emo fashion was on the raise in the mid 00s.

      Ik I'm 1 year late but yes! If there's a doll monopoly, what forces them to be better and creative? Because all the sales would be for them and naturally they'd start selling mediocre product. It happened with so many lines, Barbie included! But they reevaluate what doesn't work, figure out new ideas and usually start selling again.

      😂😂😂😂 no, it’s because the dumbass that created Bratz did so when he worked at Mattel

      Honestly that sliver of time from the early 2000s to about the dawn of 2010 where they cvuntified Barbie up SO much is the best era they've ever had and they'd be eating good if they still focused on that. I might be biased bc it's what I grew up with but I feel like they balanced the fierce look with the iconic Barbie pink very well. It's a shame that Barbie's fallen to the wayside the way it has... But that's Mattel for you.

    we really dodged a bullet. they just lack a lot of personality.
    some of the Mattel Bratz lines seemed very Barbie like, which obviously makes sense.

      @@sugarsoftwareme too I think that's why kids now prefer rainbow high and lol dolls over Barbie. They just look cooler. We preferred Bratz back then. Don't get me wrong barbie is amazing and paved the way for all dolls and iconic and the kids still love Barbies too but they always pick the super exaggerated features and cool hair and bright colors. Monster high is cool looking too though.

    • @straawberryfieldsforever

      @@emilyinspace2255As a kid, I never liked Barbie because she was too human. Small head, really tall (seriously I think she'd be 6ft irl!) And in general just looked like a human doll. Groundbreaking, absolutely but I was born in the era of stylised dolls, Bratz were nice with their big heads so you could see the faces better, big shoes and cool clothes. I quickly switched over to Monster High and all my Barbies were ever used for was to be undressed and have their clothes on my prefered doll lines😂

      The Mattel Bratz sculpts are SO fucking weird, they genuinely look like some weird alternate universe where we got MH but instead of being monsters, it was just another boring teen girl line.

    Honestly I wish it didnt have to get into a lawsuit messiness, I think competition can be good in creating a drive for innovating products. I loved both Bratz and My Scene honestly. I think both monster high and rainbow high are beautiful in their own ways. Both have space in the doll world but that just might be idealistic of me.

    The Mattel Bratz that were made were made to flop on purpose so that it would be short lived to then have them be gone shortly after releasing. Barbie would have been on top again after the Mattel Bratz flopped

  • @4everbratz

    *NOTES:* I made some mistakes that I never noticed when I made this video and it’s my responsibility to address these issues.
    At 13:07 I meant to say "Inbox prototypes of Isabel and Jade have not resurfaced as of the making of this video," but instead I said "Nia," when I was really referring to Jade. This was a minor mistake, but regardless, it’s still a notable mistake that was worth pointing out.
    At 16:23 I showcased a “post” by Isaac Larian where he allegedly criticized Monster High creator Garrett Sander over an Instagram post where he threw shade at MGA’s Shadow High. It turns out that this post was fake and was actually created by Twitter user @CloettaTheWitch as a joke.
    I deeply apologize for making these mistakes and I will try to double check my sources next time when doing research for future videos. Thank you guys so much for the support and I hope to see you guys again soon!! 💖

    Honestly, Justin, I am astounded with the amount of information you have every time I watch one of your videos. I always learn something new, so now I'm really looking forward to seeing what you're gonna teach me next! lol
    The Mattel Bratz were...interesting. I'm not gonna lie, they looked really cheap like dollar store quality, so I'm glad that the Bratz name finally made it's way back to MGA. On a more positive note though, they did have some cute accessories. I actually wish they had come with more. I actually really like the blackberry phone being added, because it was very iconic for the late 2000's/early 2010's. The only way I know that is because that was my mom's favorite phone back in the day before iPhones really took off and I want to say it was the first budget phone that had a full keyboard. I do remember these things being really popular as well as the razor phones.

      @4everbratz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I really appreciate the support! It was a lot, since the lawsuit between both companies lasted for a long time.
      The Mattel Bratz weren’t great. The bodies look really stiff, and honestly, the quality was fine, but nothing compared to MGA’s Bratz. The accessories are cute, I wonder if they used them for other Mattel doll lines?

      @@4everbratz One of my first majors I took was criminal justice and obviously we had to look over official court cases and report on them. With a messy case like MGA vs. Mattel I bet it was a bear to get through, but good on ya for doing it!
      Interesting thought though about the accessories, yeah maybe they did. I don't remember Barbie ever coming with a blackberry phone. Though the generic accessories like the bags or the cups I could see being recycled. I want to say one of Mattel's lesser known brands might have used the MP3 players though. Not entirely sure.

    Not the biggest bratz fan but the mattel bratz remind me of the “mom can i have-?” “We have - at home” meme so much. They’re just weird and generic to me. Like i get why bratz is popular despite not enjoying the dolls but i am SO glad mattel never got to release these jeez.

    • @4everbratz
      @4everbratz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. The Mattel Bratz are really forgettable to me. I like the head molds and screenings, but that’s really it. Again, I’m glad MGA gained the rights back to Bratz, because, if Mattel had released them, they would’ve been a massive failure.

    I first saw the line at work back when I first started working retail. (Nostalgically, i like walk barbie shelves on occasions just to see what has been created over the years) I didn't really care for them at first but I felt that they would give barbie a run for their money.

    The issue with the ‘You Don’t Own Me’ book is the obvious bias from the outset of the author in MGAs favour. The reason that the case was such a mess and across so many years is that whether or not Carter Bryant was on sabbatical when he designed Bratz he remained a Mattel employee hence the cover up by MGA at launch of the Bratz line & the CEO trying to pass his daughter off as the inspiration/ designer for the dolls. 🤔
