  • The UK will seek to train Ukrainian pilots “as quickly as humanly possible”, Downing Street said, as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky continued his push for European support.
TalkTV’s Mike Graham and Peter Hitchens debated the UK’s position on the war in Ukraine. Peter Hitchens argues that the there should be more support for peace in Ukraine as apposed to sending new arms.
Peter Hitchens: “All wars end .. the sooner they end the sooner the killing stops. I have never seen a war where there has been so little effort to end it.”

Absolutely yes, Putin & Russia threatened no one. How would Britain feel if China was training and arming military formations in Ireland and pushing for Ireland to join a military alliance specifically aimed against Britain. Westerners have zero concept of how Russians think and the suffering endured throughout their history. They have a right to be edgy about their border.

Seriously try looking into the IN archives for all the resolutions Russia vetoed so peacekeepers could go in ...i suggest talknradio gets an independent person in like dame Barbara Woodward and ask the right questions not listen to Peter Hitchens self interested hype Hitchens wants and does travel in and through Russia he has to plead *Russians don't mean no harm and it's all the West fault ..or else his trips to the motherland would be risky didn't Putin declare a fifteen year prison sentence for anyone critiquing the war....Hitchens has every right to an opinion but at least challenge his motivation...

      Russia is not Left-Wing.
Relax, I am Left-wing and I agree with Peter. There were maybe tens to hundreds of times in the last 10 years to avoid this war, and all the West/US did was to double down and provoke it more. That said, Putin started it, and either blew it bigtime, or doesn't have the media power some say he does in the West, or just plain doesn't know what he's doing.
So many good debates on this, and the logical factual narratives are always on the Hitchens, Mearsheimer, Cohen, Kennan , etc side -- yet in these Oxford-Style rigged debates they always lose to the establishment line.
Both sides have to find a way to detach from their irrational extremists and find a way to realize that both sides are being played just as well as Putin was played in order that there be no social concensus on how America is broken and how to fix it.

The EU have just unveiled their so called EU defence force, but in reality it will become the EU army. An EU politician a few years ago mentioned the set up of this army. A comment they made was that it would enable the EU to be capable of taking on the USA. Nothing about the EU's mentality surprises me. The UK have been at war with most of its countries for hundreds of years.
Regarding Ukraine, a lot of people, husbands, wives, sons and daughters have lost their lives for the sake of someone who us deranged and suffers from psychosis. He believes rightly or wrongly that the west wanted to take over Russia. So he has invaded a country which supplies the most grain to a large part of the world including the UK. He wants the country because it has large deposits of rare earth metals and these food sources.

It would not surprise me that the powers that be, would so dispassionate to allow such an appalling loss of life on both sides, in order to expedite their vision of 'a great reset'.

Western weapons cannot eliminate Russia's strategic dominance in Ukraine, which is why negotiations and a peace deal is the only way out of this horror for the Ukranian people.....
The problem with Nato military support for Ukraine is that while it might give Ukraine a localised tactical victory here or there it doesnt make a dent on Russia's unassailable strategic advantage over its neighbour.
This essentially means Russia in Ukraine has an 'escalatory dominance Ukraine can never hope to achieve, a strategic supremacy that all the tanks and missiles in western inventories simply cant eliminate and for a very simple reason. Russian tanks and missiles can attack anywhere in Ukraine, at will.
Ukranian tanks and missiles cant openly attack an inch of Russia. Russia attacking Ukrainian soil cant start a world war. Ukraine attacking Russian soil can. This means regardless of how advanced the weapon systems the US sends the Ukranian army the scope to unleash their full power is severely constrained. Russia on the other hand suffers no such limitations as to the punishment it can inflict on Ukraine
Put in another way if Ukraine launches a missile attack on Moscow that destroys Vladimir Putin and the entire Russian government, the consequences are - we are in World War 3 territory. On the other hand, If Vladimir Putin orders a missile strike on Kiev that kills Zelensky, the consequences are - Nato will call a press conference! And possibly tighten a few sanctions making it more difficult for Russian housewives to get hold of their favourite gucci hand bags.
On the battlefield itself strategic weakness detracts from tactical advantage. Whats the point having the best tanks if they cant cross the Russian border to destroy the logistical systems and arteries that enable the Russian armies occupation of the Donbas. Where is the sense in having advanced F -16 fighters if they can be shot down by Russian air defences based in Russian territory which the F-16s are prevented from attacking. A constraint Russan jets dont face in attacking Ukraine.
There is no example in millitary history where tactical acumen has ever overidden a wholly unfavourable strategic situation similar to the one Ukraine currently faces How can the 300,000 Russian troops currently occupying eastern Ukraine be pushed out when the strategic situation prevents Ukraine from attacking their supply bases, logistical centres and command posts which are situated beyond their strategic reach in Russia.
If the allies had not been able to bomb, at will, the entire breadth of Germany during the second world war, destroying bridges, dams, railway hubs, supply bases and the entirety of the conplex network of production and supply nodes and routes that make modern war possible, the Normandy invasion would have ended up at the bottom of the English channel.Ukraine has not got the ability, the strategic depth to do to Russia, what Russia is doing to Ukraine.
This means all it can do is give its assailant a bloody nose, which might be enough if Russia did not see this struggle as exustential. Unfortunately for Ukraine they do. Which means defeat for the Kremlin is not an option
To win a war you need more than weapons. You need a strategy. Supplying weapons regardless of how advanced is not a strategy. The west currently has no serious strategy in Ukraine, a critical weakness being concealed by Churchillian bluster and endless weapons supplies from its dwindling stocks.
The war has consumed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ukranian soldiers lives as the Russians sit back to preserve their soldiers while using its overwhelming advantage in long range firepower to bleed the Ukranian army white.
Russias strategic dominance has not been seriously affected by western support for a nation that cant match the blows of its enemies, so is forced to sacrifice its youth in a futile struggle that increasingly seems to be serving the geo political objectives of its backers, stress Russia and test new weapons rather than preserve the sovereignty of a country that has become little more than a pawn on the international chess board of power politics.
A peace deal is the only way out of this horrific ordeal for the Ukranian people.

Thing about war, and no one seems to have learned this lesson from the history of violence is that it's a deeply ironic enterprise. You very rarely get what you expect. Additionally, has anyone thought about what exactly victory looks like? I've heard some people in Washington talk about wanting to get rid of Putin. Great. Whom do you think would replace him? Can you guarantee that they're better? In sum, we're careening full speed in the dark, and I pray that we don't trip into life ending catastrophe.
I've gotta be honest. I don't think Ukrainian sovereignty is worth risking all organised life on this planet. There. I wrote it. Call me a white nationalist or homophobe or whatever other nonsense now...but that's what I think.

The UK support for Ukraine is an exercise in bleeding Russia; politically, economically & militarily -- to include both material, as well as manpower. It's part of a game that has been in progress for hundreds of years. In fact, funding & support for our enemies in the middle-east has been coming from Russia and what you are seeing now is payback.
