  • We install the Shadetree 390 Big Block Ford in this episode. Will the formerly rusted solid and locked up big block roar to life? What kind of challenges will my son, JD face as we attempt to put his first Hot Rod, a 1959 Ford Fairlane on the road again?

So, this comment is for JD.
This is the car you keep. You never sell. You fix it when you inevitably crash in it as a teenager. You go on first dates in it. You drive off from the wedding chappal, dragging a bunch of tin cans on strings in it. It's the first car to pull into the first driveway of the first home you buy. You keep working on it with your own kids. Finally, you hand over the keys to your kid as his or her first car.
Why do you do all of that?? Because it's your first car that you and your dad built together.

This is the most real video on working on cars I have ever seen. Not everything gets done perfect in 30 minutes with commercial breaks and almost losing the garage. Set backs, wrong parts, blood has to be given sometime and lots of disappointments goes with that perfect day of driving your project. Dalton, this is the right way to do videos for your channel. Salute for never giving up.

Well done. I watch many channels and you are with many of them in content. That being said Vice Grip garage and Goonzquad were barely above your level when I began watching them and both are well over a million subscribers now. Sleeperdude is striving as well and 3 of those and your channel involve father son involvement (sleeperdude has his entire family involved) and goonzquad is sons and father. See a pattern? You are doing well. I live down in Poplar Bluff MO and am 76. I am looking for a 47 or 48 Chrysler sedan with a straight 8 and stick shift for my final car.

I miss the years of when my son and I did this stuff. We swapped our rusted out frame on my 65 Galaxie 2 dr ht, put the 394FE I built back in 1999 and pulled it out of the truck, put the C6 and 4.33 locker in and the engine/transmission swap in, it was so much fun. I m 62 now and blind and my son is 40 now and really busy with his own family and work. Do these things while you can. They grow up so fast!

Awesome build to do with the kid!! He’s gonna be a hard worker it seems.! My bosses grand son tried to take a picture under water with a cell phone he knew wasn’t waterproof cuz his mother just recently had to dry it out in rice already once!!??? He also likes to pedal mtn bikes backwards while shifting gears until the derailer bends to all to hell.!? The kid doesn’t have a role model at all so he’s all over the place. Your doing a great job! All you gotta do is try and that’s mountains more then most fathers.

🙌. Ure a GOOD MAN, GREAT FATHER. My Dad, who I was doing my apprenticeship with, kept making me , whilst teaching me, completely rebuild a 73 MINI ………….. every ounce, even painting it……. Then, one day I had to go take my driving test, during work time. I passed and came back to work . My Mum was in the office at the time of my arrival….. and they hugged me, ( well Mum did) Dad, shook my hand and said very well done Son…. and threw the mini keys at me…. Best go test your car runs ok. Boy did I cry. Lost for words.

Hello JD & Dalton, I'm three months behind in this vlog but every time I want to comment I'm in trying to enjoy a self made ciggy.
Now let me say I think Chevrolet had a phenominal design with their bat wing '59 Impala with its curved class windscreen and unique laid flat tail fins, BUT....
I can't throw the '59 Ford Fiarlane to the curb being my family owned one in the mid to late '60s.
This car, your first Hot Rod JD, is awesome!
The work you're putting into it will be a memory that stays with you for a lifetime.
Also this classic end of the tail fin years design has its own rad design that I'll always be jealous of any owner of, as it is the first memory of the car my family owned.
The work you and your father are puttng into making it a reliable Hot Rod will remain with you for your entire life. So just know it now, you are a very special young man to your pop and always give him props for this effort he puts out to help you with fostering a love for classic autos.
This '59 is a fine looking and will always be a great car for you as the first car you owned, as they always are, forever.
    p.s.
JD, it's good to see you have become more comfortable speaking in these vlogs, don't be shy JD, you are a natrual, whether you know it or not. And I'm happy to hear you speak more about the 'haps' as things are happening here.

Dalton, you are the best to watch now. Derek has gone to motor trend and you don't get the good bills that he used to do when he was bringing them back to life and I used to watch Kevin and Mook. But now when you watch Kevin, he has infomercials in the middle of his restorations earbuds and other sponsors and I don't think you get the true information anymore. He's too busy backing his sponsors but you are honest about everything and you work with your brother and your son and your wife. It's almost a family show. How my people do I know who tell me "My ol' man was never there for me " or "My ol' man was a S.O.B." many of the people who tell me this are walking turds with arms and legs, hateful wretched excuses for human beings with no direction in life.
Now look at your situation. You are taking the time and making the effort to be there for your boy. He's learning something every time you guys go into the garage, and he's picking up hands on experience that he'll use for the rest of his life. You're also earning his respect, the real kind that is given freely and is from the heart. Thanks to you, he's gonna have a fighting chance in life.
I can see that you two are also having fun and making memories you'll be talking about when you're old,
(You remind me of my Dad in a lot of ways. I was extremely lucky to have him.)
You sir, are doing a great job making sure that there is at least one more good human on planet earth.
You were a very funny guy when you were putting the goat together, and I laughed my butt off most of the time. Now I see from what you've been doing here that there's a lot more to you than just being funny.

Thanks for letting people know what mechanic work is all about
No fancy 10 million dollars cats, just old/new mechanic real tricks of the trade helpful hints and good ole American sarcasm. Awesome work

I click on these videos for the auto repair, but I watch them for the father/son interaction. Take it from someone who never got to do this with his dad: both of you are the luckiest people in the world.

I like the 59 Ford it is a nice old car and it’s extra special when you show JD how to do a repair job he’ll always remember it cause I remember doing things with my dad big Ed coming to you from Central city Kentucky. Have a wonderful day.

Love how your straight forward manner keeps JD interested and learning from you. Your hands on teaching will go along way in future endeavors where the goal is a long way off. Patience is what most kids these days have little of. I have great respect for your knowledge of early generations of vehicles that don't have all these cool electronics but just the basics.

I love this stuff man. I wish I could've had this experience that JD is getting here, but I know for damn sure that I will be doing the same with my kids. I definitely skipped part 2. I knew this would be the gem of a video because everyone knows 80% of the work takes 20% of the time, and vice versa!

Nice job! Who hasn't had a setback or two? It's great that you and your son can work on the car together. My grandfather had a '58 just like that and I was with him the last time he drove it, a great memory. J.D. is going to have a lot of great memories, and it's all because you take the time to work with him. Can't wait for the next video!!

When I was young, my dad never sat me down and taught me anything. He would just wave me off and always made me feel like I couldn’t do anything. It’s so nice to see you teaching and guiding your son, he’s going to grow up to be a great man.

Me and my dad rebuilt an '83 F150 for my first daily driver and dad's hot rod, a lot like you're doing with JD. I wrecked that thing not 5 months after I got my drivers license, totaling it but we managed to salvage the motor. We built several more vehicles throughout the years together, and not a day goes by that I don't wish that I had one of those vehicles to remember him by. Our '93 F350 dually with the 12v Cummins diesel, the '85 F350 4x4 shortbed we made, the '70 Torino we put back on the road, or just working on my '97 Mercury Cougar.

It is great watching you and JD working together on the car and you make it fun. My father was an auto body man that was extremely talented but very hot headed and swore so bad a drunken sailor would blush. Basically you did not want to be around him when he was working on anything.

My friend, I love your channel. I am 61 years old and have been through everything you show. I do own a 65 GTO. I am second owner and a PHS certified car. When I get get stressed I detail it, jump in it with Koda(my dog) cruise around the block and if my stress level is high I get that 3rd gear chirp. Koda loves it more than me. Message me and I will send something your way. Keep up the good work with your kid. That is golden.
