    Every year me and my brother is looked forward to getting our food basket from the food pantry for Thanksgiving. It was the best one of the year. People do not realize what does donations mean to a family he needs it. We would not have had a Thanksgiving if it wasn't for these boxes. My dad left. My mom tried her best but she had her own demons oh, but she did put on a good Thanksgiving. And we were all very thankful. So I do highly encourage people to donate. I donate as much as I possibly can. And I hope that anyone who is struggling not only takes advantage of free food but take advantage of a free education oh, I found that to be my ticket out of poverty. My children do not need to live the life that I did due to the education I got. Please people this holiday season do not forget to give that extra toy or that extra food it is appreciated much more than you know

      This is why I am happy to contribute. My husband has passed and he's the only one that liked turkey. I buy the year's worth of food that is on sale this time of year and store it. When I spend that much I get free turkeys. They go straight to the food bank. Happy to donate the fixings too. We (older kids and I) try to spend a certain amount each or donate cash. It's worth every dime.

    Deviled egg tip:
    I put a small ziplock bag into a glass, fill it with the deviled egg filling, let out air, zip it up, cut off the tip and fill them that way. Way less mess and looks a little nicer plus you don’t have to buy a pastry bag!

    the little pies and cakes is what i served for both our Thanksgivings this year. no one could come to a consensus so i got individual ones...which ended up cheaper. then sent hubby back the next day and got the marked down from .50 to .34 for the freezer to have a dessert or breakfast for the next few weeks. we still have pumpkin, apple, cherry, pecan, peach and the chocolate and cinnamon cake. can't pass up 34 cents for me its 2 servings but only one for the guys. should have been doing this before.
    edit for dont forget frozen pearl onions. can be used anywhere cooked onions are used. or leave whole and heat with canned veggies. makes them look fancy and if you have flour and a little milk make white gravy for "creamed peas and onions". $2 for 12 oz and they go a long long way.

    Ibotta Rebate - if you don’t have a computer, scroll to the bottom of your Ibotta offer and check the box that says I don’t have a computer. Ibotta will send the offer rebate to your email address allowing you to get a FREE Walmart thanksgiving dinner.
    I decided not to get the free meal to allow others in need to use this limited offer. I challenge those who are not in need to forego the offer. God Bless and Godspeed!

      @@MealsWithMaria too not get stressed about being on so tight of a budget, I turned my whole money experience into a game/competition. It was Me against the System, like a board game. It worked making the experience fun. But a side effect is trying to “get the deal”. I have to remind myself that others need something like the “free” meal way more then I do. In addition to deals I built experiences into the game. Thanksgiving day - morning Macy’s Day Parade, start turkey, lunch, football game with those unable to play watching and cheering, then back to kitchen to cook, serve and then eat Thanksgiving Dinner. Before the start of dinner at the table, everyone gets a candle 🕯. A prayer of Thanks is said then one candle is lit. That person says one thing they are grateful for, or two, then lights the candle of the person beside them and that goes on around the table. The last person says a closing blessing and everyone blows out their candle. The lights are turned back on and we eat. After dinner we, chat, watch football, then eat dessert. I close my night with the original “Miracle on 34th street”. The next Morning I sit with whoever is interested and do our Christmas 🎄 Event Calendar. Sort of like Advent calendar but for activities. This was popular as we decided what to do when.

    WOW!! I am in AAAAWWWEEE of you and this video. The big Thanksgiving Dinner you created with $20 is INCREDIBLE and INSPIRATIONAL for sure!! I really appreciate the tips, ideas, and all the information you provide for folks to remember to donate and help when they can. Growing up I remember all too well the struggles. But, you learn to appreciate every single thing in life large or small, to help others, and be humbled. My Mom did her very best and we were 7 children, so it was no easy task. She worked hard to make thanksgiving just that, a day to be thankful for all that we have, don't have, the good and the bad and reminded us, besides being grateful, being together was by far the most important. So, THANK YOU!! I learned so much from your video. God Bless and Stay Safe!! Hugz Arlene

    That’s nice of you to provide appetizers for your family before turkey time, we make breakfast, watch the parade and then get the turkey and everything else done. We don’t eat too much until dinner which we have in the late afternoon. We have a large family so Thanksgiving dinner gets started days beforehand, with the baking of the breads, pies, desserts and anything that needs to set in the fridge.

    I know this is an older video, I have been going through your channel trying to catch up because I am a new subscriber. Every time I think you can’t be more compassionate, thoughtful and giving to people I am reminded that I need to up my game. Thank you for a fun video to watch and a reminder. You often mention people if they buy an extra can of vegetables or something they can donate it to the food bank and that is wonderful. For people like myself who are in a position that we can give more, if you donate cash they can use the money and buy more food than we would be able to with the same amount of money. Something else that doesn’t often get mentioned is food pantries desperately need personal and feminine care supplies as that is something that people suffering from a food shortage can’t afford.

    I thank Heaven for every humble crumb! You could add a little fruit and nuts to the stuffing. Also a bit of paprika and scallions to the deviled eggs. 🥚

    You can use a plastic bag in lieu of a pastry bag to fill deviled eggs.
    Beautiful meal!

    Great job, as always, Maria! If you have a plastic baggie, you can put your egg fillng in that, snip the corner, and use that to pipe the deviled egg filling into the egg whites. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Maria! This is so well done! What a fabulous spread. My son is coming home with his lovely girlfriend from British Columbia for thanksgiving and staying for a week and I’m so excited. I was a little worried what to cook, because I am on a pension. Here in Canada we can get turkeys for 99 cents a pound. And there will be leftovers for days. Thank you Thank you Thank you. ❤️❤️ now I’m going to head over to your leftovers video. Love you ❤️

    Great video! I wish our Walmart was this cheap but here in Canada its definitely more pricey. I'm not looking to do a low cost dinner per se but this is such a blessing for ppl who are needing to stretch their dollars! I thought $20 was a typo but you killed it! Oh and remember you can always use a sandwich bag with a corner cut off for piping anything!

    Maria hi. I’m a new subscriber from 🇨🇦 Canada. . And I am very much enjoying your channel.
    In order to prevent your cutting board from moving around , place a tea towel or slightly damp paper towel underneath your board Prevents any sudden movements while you are cutting up things. That’s a great thanksgiving dinner you created for very little money.

    • @MealsWithMaria
      @MealsWithMaria  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @MealsWithMaria
      @MealsWithMaria  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Running the eggs under water while you take the shell off is the best method I’ve tried!

    • @Dindasayswhynot
      @Dindasayswhynot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trust Maria. She has shown you the perfect way to make them. If you take your pot completely off the stove or are using gas or an Induction cooker where there isn't as much retained heat, or if you are at high altitude, let sit 15 to 20 mins before the ice bath. (no longer than 20). After you get them out of the ice bath, or at a minimum, ice cold water, smack the pointy end on the sink. There's an air pocket that helps get you started.
      The only other tip is don't get them from the hen house that day and make deviled eggs with them. LOL Just like at Easter, they'll be too fresh and they will not peel well no matter what you do. A little older eggs are easier to peel.
