As you make this i can't help but get teary eyed...because you're a God sent to so many right now in the world who can't afford Thanksgiving dinner for their family. May you be blessed daily for all your help in this financial crisis for many🥹🙏
I am 50. When i was in elementary school they made us "cowboy hats". We all lived out, my kids grew up living it. It is nothing but fried bologna (fried till the sides flip up from the center a little) with an ice cream scooper full of instant mashed potatos right in the center so it looks like a hat. Add ketchuo and you have a for dollar hot meal the kids love.
Girl!!!! I’m literally contemplating doing this for Thanksgiving! I’m not joking! I’ve been making Thanksgiving dinner for 37 years and I’m tired 😂😂 This was a winner winner 💯💯
I'm taking the year off hosting 10+ as it's just husband and myself this year. I'm relieved to be honest😅 I think this menu is perfect for us to have some yummy leftovers or some extra for a friend who may need a meal. Without exhausting me in the process!
@@tiffanysamuelson9262 I live in my Dollar tree. At least once a month. You did a great job young lady, I was a cook for in a restaurant for years and years and years but yes ma'am that looks delicious I want to make that I want to do that dressing in Turkey thing yeah that's what I want to do. Happy Thanksgiving y'all 🦃
My mom was always impressed when she saw nothing in the pantry, and then my dad would take what little was there and make a meal out of it. They came from opposite sides of the tracks, and my grandma (widow w/ 7 children) taught my dad how to "make a nickel to a dollar's worth of work" ! Great job, lady!
I grew up in a dirt poor family (that fortunately has been blessed with financial security since then), and this video is perfection. We would have to strategize how specific dollars got spent at the dollar store to make sure everybody was fed. There was NO extra money for wiggle room. If people criticize this, it's because they have never been anywhere close to struggling just to pay for their next meal.
My husband lost his job in August and you've given us an affordable option for Christmas (we're Canadian, so Thanksgiving has already passed). God bless you and your family for the work you do to help others. 🥰
I’m sorry to hear your family situation. I hope he finds work soon. The price of food here in Canada is unreal and we need all the help we can. I hope your Christmas is blessed and your future brightens.
I love your accent and with fine people like you, America is already great again. Our country has always come together during hard times. There is a TH-cam video about the Great Depression meals. Your Thanksgiving frugal dinner is what Americans are famous for - resourcefulness, faith and hope. You’ve inspired me to try the turkey stuffing balls!
This is what call ghetto/hood cooking, and I love it. Do your thing sis. I grew up the same way in Brooklyn, my mom took care of us (3 boys), the best she can and dinners were special. She could make a stick to ya ribs meal on a budget and we ate every bit. This brings back memories. Keep doing your thing and dont worry about what many of these 'judgey' clowns wanna say while im sure they themselves grew up just as poor as we did but acting like theyre upper crust.
@CannabaeCG My friends and I used to do "ghetto friendsgiving" and it was the best. Turkey loaf, instant mashed potatoes with gravy from a jar, Stove Top, canned corn, biscuits or croissant rolls, and maybe green bean casserole if we were feeling fancy. Everyone chipped in and it was delicious. Some of my favorite holiday memories. 💕
My mother survived starvation in a work camp. She would have loved this Dollar Tree meal, which Momma made with creativity and love, and for only $20! I remember our Thanksgiving dinners where potato pancakes and stuffed cabbages (made for a few dollars) were the stars of the show. I adored them and never felt deprived. We never ate out, as my parents saved to send their kids to college. To the shamers: please understand that many families eat well and within a budget. I have subscribed and rang the bell -- Momma is a Rock Star!
You did an excellent job! When my late husband was terminally ill and I was chronically ill we found ourselves living in a hotel with our 2 daughters as I tried transitioning from being a stay at home mom to a first time breadwinner with no skills during COVID. If it wasn't for Dollar Tree we couldn't have survived. Good memories of God making a way for us ❤️ Thanks for sharing! 😊
I don’t know why anyone would complain about the quality of the food. That brand of mashed potatoes is sold everywhere and I use them all the time. The green beans as well and they are also delicious. The stuffing is the same as you would get as a known brand, probably made at the same facility. I would eat this dinner and be thankful to have it. Some people have never had to struggle and that’s the problem. I was a single mom of three kids and sometimes had to go to the church food pantry. You learn to make something out of nothing sometimes and are thankful to get it. This meal looks delicious and thank you for sharing your ideas.
You are absolutely right. I worked in a factory many years ago. They made the same items for different companies then put their company logos on them. That is often how it works.
Pretty much every thing she used was a name brand, or a generic that is just as high quality as any typical store brand. Personally I would have made a tweak or two, and found a way to include a can of cranberry sauce, but she did a really great job. And the best part of all, was that not only was this meal really cheap, it was also VERY accessible for someone who has limited access to kitchen gear/fridge space, as well as being very accessible to someone who has no kitchen skills or is disabled. Personally, I am one hell of a good cook, but I am also currently disabled and on chemo. This entire meal of recipes is at a level that could be prepared by someone with very low stamina, or even easily delgated to a helper/child of ~8+yo while supervising and directing from a seat at the table if absolutely needed (or they just wanted to help). This is also a good menu for someone who has to work over the holiday, or can't make it home to be with family and doesn't want a lot of leftovers to deal with. The quantities shown would easily make 4-6 hearty-sized meals to take to work.
@@Jennie-kb4ug I'm sorry to hear that you have cancer. I will pray for your quick recovery. Yes, Dollar Tree has many brand name items and many of their unknown brands are good as well. I do stay away from a few of their unknown brands because I tried them and they weren't good. You have to experiment to see which unknown brands are good and which are not.
True story - worked at a 4 star restaurant ~ they bought alot of their food stuffs from Dollar Tree. Quality was better than Sysco 😉👍🏻and not insanely priced.
So many people are struggling with food insecurity. You proove that its possible to feed your family a delicious meal wven on a budget. God bless you and your beautiful family Brooke❤
What I love most about this, is that there are people who aren’t frugal who waste all of their money and still can’t come up with $20 and put forth the time and effort to make their children a hot meal. You did a great job! The beans looked amazing ❤️
Funny thing is I've tried to give food away that is "Sell By" and no one will take it. I feed $15.00 frozen steaks to the racoons & had to throw hundreds of dollars worth of food in the garbage, I just couldn't eat al of it. All those dates mean is the brand say's it "might" lose it's taste or strength. Canned chicken lasts for years. Pantry foods. When you buy flour put it immediately into your freezer to kill off, and bugs. The government allows for a % of bugs ect in foods.
In today's financial climate, people are finding it difficult to make ends meet, and your video is nothing but positive and helpful! Kudos to you my fellow frugal Mama for being so creative!!!❤
I don’t see anything wrong with this meal at all. What an amazing mama. My grandmother was amazing at improvising as she grew up during the Great Depression. God bless
You remind me of one of my coworkers who was also from Tennessee. She was widowed quite young and single-handedly raised four children on a decent-paying job. And she shops exclusively at Aldi and Dollar Tree and she can make the most delicious meals out of the most inexpensive ingredients.
Aldi is terrific! I shop there and load up on so many great things at decent prices---really helps this elderly woman's food budget immensely. I shop at Dollar Tree, too, because they have quite a few things I can stock my pantry with for a great price.
I grew up poor as hell, this is a good dinner. Doesn't matter where you got it, if you can feed 8 people for $20 that's incredible and something more people should try. Humility is a rare trait
Southern frugal momma, you are a marvel! I've learned in my life of 35 years that the best cooks are ones who grew up poor because they have to be creative. And you are one of the best cooks ever! Thank you for your advice and tips and I have subscribed!❤
Strange but true. As a kid I thought government peanut butter and Kayro syrup mixed in an old metal ice tray after removing the metal sectioning part. Then frozen was homemade candy. Me and my brothers made it up. All our friends thought we were the bomb. As an adult cooking was always my game.

That was my initial reaction as well. I had it on simply while working on something else - not even sure why YT recommended it sicne I don't watch many cooking videos. So, out of one eye I had that one while doing something else, but when she started on the veggies - I was intrigued....the pie had gotten me interested, but the veggies...impressed.
I dont know why but im crying as im watching this for a second time... I just fell a few days ago and fractured my spine. I used the ham trimmings in my pinto beans this week. They were delicious! Tasted like what my momma used to make. Bag of pintos + ham trimmings…..awesome meal for $2.50
What a lovely idea for a video. Social media is full of people who want everyone to believe that they're leading an unachievable, unrealistic lifestyle. You are doing the complete opposite of that! PS: Those turkey stuffing balls look amazing!
My family’s Thanksgivings are big…usually 40-45 people and I make the mashed potatoes. Always a chore because I have to prepare 20 pounds, ugh. About 10 years ago I got smart. I made 10 pounds of mashed potatoes and then combined those with a box of instant mashed potatoes. It saved me so much time and they tasted so good and everyone loved them. I’ll never go back. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
@@karenhofer8072 Cooking, draining and mashing enough potatoes for almost 50 people is a lot of work, believe me. So buying 10 lbs and then supplementing them with dried potato flakes was a GOD SEND. Add milk, butter, cream cheese and s&p, and everyone loves them.

Love the spirit of your home! You've got a good husband and kids and they've got a creative momma who can stretch a dollar and cook with love. I grew up poor and my mom was a master of 'poor man's meals that tasted absolutely fabulous. She was able to stretch 'peasant food' and fed half the neighborhood. There are some great ideas here, especially how you made the beans! But since you love good tips and saving $, I wanted to share with you that usually during Thanksgiving time, you can get a whole turkey (which can feed your family for a week) at any of your local grocery stores for as low as .39/lb. (So a 10 lb turkey is less than $4!). And you can get 5lbs of potatoes for $1.99! So you could nix the cans of turkey, gravy and potatoes and get everything else at the $ store and still come out ahead! Just a tip! But truly, you're a lovely mom with some great ideas that I'll be borrowing as well. Thanks for sharing! And Happy Thanksgiving!🎉
What a nice dinner! As a couple that had to retire very early due to my husband nearly dying from a “widow-maker” heart attack, our budget was greatly reduced. I start saving for our grandchildren’s gifts for the holidays in September. This Thanksgiving, my husband is recovering from a bad fall, long stay in hospital and major surgery on his shattered knee, so it’s been super tight. We are taking dinner to an elderly couple’s house since they are pretty much housebound so this meal will be perfect. Here in Canada 🇨🇦 I shop at a DollarRama. A transplanted Bluegrass girl to boot and I love introducing our neighbours to Southern cooking! Thank you!
Ma'am, I'm an elderly woman of 72, living on SS and a small pensiion, so I know about having to be frugal. I'm saying this next bit only as what our family did around 25 years ago; my parents handled money intelligently, though they were never rich. In 1999, Mom finally said "We (she and Dad) aren't going to buy Christmas presents anymore. All the grandchildren are plenty old enough to understand this, and we're not going to keep spending money that WE need on useless things nobody really wants. However, all that said, we want all of you to come here and have Christmas Eve dinner and play games." All of us women happily cooked and baked and took a huge "potluck" out to Mom and Dad's little farm, and the whole family always had a great time. There were three younger grands at the time (my own son was an adult by then), but the youngest was already 17, so no little ones. It was the best thing Mom could have done, making that announcement, and my brother and his wife, my sister and her husband, and I were all very glad to hear it. None of us was rich, and all of us really needed our money for our own expenses. That's all, just a telling of what our family did 25 years ago, and that it was a terrific thing for all of us.
Miss BROOKE!!! OMGOODNESS!!!! I watched this last night. I couldn't get it off my mind!!! So , I paid a visit at one of my local dollar tree! ( I'm surrounded by three of them) Girl!!! Girl!!!! Those turkey stuffing balls are the 💣💣💣💣💣! Thank you for that!!!

This is awesome, talk about pulling a rabbit out of a hat, I was just talking to my husband about the Thanksgiving dinner we almost didn't have, we had just bought our house and money was very tight I went to CVS drug store and bought a canned ham,and all the trimmings, but to get to the cash register and my debit card wouldn't approve, I went home empty handed, and sad, but my mother in law came through and showed up with turkey enchiladas and everything else we needed to make an awesome day. I thanked the Lord over and over because I had never been in that situation before or since, but I certainly appreciate you for doing this video, that not everything has to be expensive thank you again

I agree, this video gives people hope!
Right! I think she did a fantastic job!
It's cancer, though. These are cancer foods
Girl!!!! I’m literally contemplating doing this for Thanksgiving! I’m not joking! I’ve been making Thanksgiving dinner for 37 years and I’m tired 😂😂 This was a winner winner 💯💯
@tiffanysamuelson9262 yep u should go for it momma, they all just happy to eat thx u momma 😘 💓 happy t day 💗
I'm taking the year off hosting 10+ as it's just husband and myself this year.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all 🦃
I've been doing it 47 years and am also tired but I. Will once again cook
@ I will as well 😂😂 A girl can dream 😂😂
My mom was always impressed when she saw nothing in the pantry, and then my dad would take what little was there and make a meal out of it. They came from opposite sides of the tracks, and my grandma (widow w/ 7 children) taught my dad how to "make a nickel to a dollar's worth of work" ! Great job, lady!
Same with me grandma 🥰 and me
I grew up in a dirt poor family (that fortunately has been blessed with financial security since then), and this video is perfection.
We must start to grow alone our food...
Praying for you and your family 🙏!
@@SongbirdCollageArts it's too bad out Dollar tree doesn't have frozen veg or ham.
Ill be honest, if you served this to me at Thanksgiving, I'd be more than thankful. Looks and sounds delicious!! Thanks for sharing this
The Stuffing balls have everything included and look delicious! I’d rather have this❤
This is what call ghetto/hood cooking, and I love it.
❤❤❤❤
@CannabaeCG My friends and I used to do "ghetto friendsgiving" and it was the best. Turkey loaf, instant mashed potatoes with gravy from a jar, Stove Top, canned corn, biscuits or croissant rolls, and maybe green bean casserole if we were feeling fancy. Everyone chipped in and it was delicious. Some of my favorite holiday memories. 💕
@misskilmister4072 100%
Facts!! You said it all bro!
Exactly, this how someone special to me feeds her kids and I adore her for all of it.
I love this.
There are always going to be people who are caustic. Your info was helpful. Thank you for your beautiful heart.
@sandysmith7507 the only thing they forgot... is to say grace. isn't that what Thanksgiving day all about?
Thank you for sharing and giving God the glory.
@@wmor2449 Beautiful support for the video. Where there is a will their is a way. Thank you for sharing.
@@susanjones2723 I want those green beans. She did not pick cheap green beans either.

I like dollar tree but I prefer fresh potatoes if some one is on a budget there are food shelf In most cities for family this large
@dianeyoung3752 those instant potatoes are yummy though.
What I love most about this, is that there are people who aren’t frugal who waste all of their money and still can’t come up with $20 and put forth the time and effort to make their children a hot meal. You did a great job! The beans looked amazing ❤️
Thanks for reminding me about bad parents. That's a downer.
I LOVE Glory brand products. 🙂👍
