Thanks for watching! Let me know what kind of extreme budget challenge you’d like to see next! $10 for one person? $50 for a week? Multiple stores, Dollar Tree, Aldi? More Walmart? You are all amazing thank you!
Bouillon! Chicken bouillon in your pantry is a must. When a recipe calls for broth, you have it in a cube for pennies. It's handy for sipping if you have a sore throat or if you've been sick and trying to get back to eating.
I am glad that you allow your children whatever they want to eat. Alot of parents would allow them to eat what they want & then lie about it. It's nice to see someone who is honest. That is a quality that is missing now a days. I love your videos.
When I was broke as dirt and the family was craving sweets, I made no bake chocolate/pb oatmeal cookies. Pennies to make and would last the week in the fridge. It helped to not feel so drab. And most families always have oatmeal/cocoa/pb and sugar around.
I am by myself also and I like to watch these as it gives me ideas of stuff I can make and put in my freezer! They make great grab and go meals for me to take to work
Yes and you can grow all your spices. Recipe for egg rolls: 2 cups water,2 beaten eggs, slowly a 1 cup flour& 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cook 1 tablespoon of batter in a greased 6" skillet on low heat spread around rolling into a pancake turn out on a plate and cover with a damp clothe til ready too use.
I watch all these types of videos. It’s crazy to think pre pandemic how even Walmarts great value brand let alone the cost of a dozen eggs went from $1 to over $3 a carton. I live in the Midwest when I was placing my Walmart instacart order and last week eggs went up again to $3.12 for a dozen when they were just $2.88 the previous week. I am 42 years old and I live alone, I can’t imagine having to cook/meal prep for a family. God bless you and your family, Maria. 🤍
Love your grocery budget challenge videos! One thing I wanted to mention is I use my black bean broth as my soup broth. My family loves it. I also save my veggie peels and freeze them in a baggie, and when I have a lot and a good variety I make veggie stock! ❤️
Yes yes! I kept telling myself I was going to mention freezing the scraps. Then of course 🤦♀️ great mention! I appreciate it! I really think so many people read these comments and it’s so helpful when you make recommendations! I love the community aspect and helping others!
@@frugalcampermama I do this too - I slow cook the veggies when I have enough for a pot (and good variety as mentioned above), I usually throw in a whole onion, some spices/herbs and chili garlic sauce.. I like my broth to have bite!
One idea for how to use bean liquid is to add it to any savoury rice dish. I saw the girl from Spend Savvy do this and recreated it and it adds so much flavour, plus then you're retaining the nutrients from the beans, really yum! :) You just put the bean liquid in instead of water and cook as usual, can fry off some onions first and then add everything else, just boosts the flavour so much and is a great way to repurpose the liquid instead of it going to waste. :)
I recently learned how to regrow my green onions in the mason jar with water and a tiny sprinkle of salt I use the same ones for about 2 weeks before planting them into soil in a pot on my patio
@@laurenzolinski3308 I cut them down til there’s a tiny bit of green and set them in a mason jar on my counter until their roots are about 1.5 inches long then plant them in a pot with potting soil and let them grow
This all looks great, but I am mostly impressed with the pizzas. I never seen that dough mix at Walmart before. My nephews would love that definitely gonna try that. Thanks for the great ideas 🖤
Every time I go to the dollar tree I get a bottle of dried onions, and chopped garlic to have on hand if I don't have fresh ones. I also buy carrots onions and celery and if I don't think they will get used quickly enough I chop them up and freeze them. They are great a soup starters for for casseroles. I also buy basic spices there or at a grocery store if they have them for about a dollar. I keep a large bottle of beef broth powder and chicken broth powder to flavor things as well.
I LOLed when your husband started talking and then I felt bad for laughing. I'm glad you said he was joking. My husband has a strong Boston accent (we now live in NH)...so I get it. 😂
If you are not msg sensitive dollar tree has small containers of Badia everything spice it has a great mix of spices and you only have to buy one thing. Another great one if you like things just a little spicy is Uncle Tony's creole seasoning and it is a larger container. The Festia ground turkey also comes in taco flavor or Italian flavor so you can save on some spices. In my experience little kids would like the chili better mix with rice.
bean broth uses: soup base; cook veggies in it instead of water (grean beans, brocccoli, zucchini, etc)...full of protein--also use in a lot of places where you would use oil or water--use it to make bread, pizza dough (instead of water), etc--adds extra nutrients and protein...dts

That's funny, I just found I missed your extreme from Oct and just watched it right before this video. Such fun. I'm so excited to see you're still doing videos even during your kitchen reno. Thank you.
I can’t remember the last time I made “grilled” cheese. It was easier to make” toasted “ cheese sandwiches for kids..they certainly didn’t miss all the butter. I still make toasted- grilled cheese for myself😌
I will bake a bunch of sweet potatoes on a large sheet pan. Wash potatoes and rub oil over sweet potatoes skins. Then lay on sheet pan and bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes. Let cool and place baked sweet potatoes in a vacuum seal bag and seal. Can place in freezer. Use sweet potatoes as needed and reseal vacuum bag and place back in freezer. I also chop fresh onions up when they are on sale. I then lay them out on a sheet pan in single layer. Then place sheet pan in freezer. Freeze onions and after frozen remove onions off sheet pan and place frozen onions into a vacuum seal bag and seal up. Can use onions as needed. Then reseal bag up and place bag back into freezer. I guess that’s true! Didn’t really think about it that way 🤷♀️ the only thing crucial with what I purchased was the muscle milk which could be exchanged for a small $1 milk. So it might be closer to $32 in total without the Ibotta deals.
@@MealsWithMaria I've always put a plain pot with beans (navy beans) and cold water on the stove overnight to soak and then boiled the enxt day. I haven't tried other beans, I'm not a bean person except baked beans lol. I have however gotten to like refried beans so I'll have to try making my own. With these fun times we're in I stocked up on all kinds of beans and rice so maybe I can get used to them and like them.
Unless your DT is near Walmart you probably saved money on gas. If you got sausage it pretty cheap you could have made pancake breakfast sandwiches. Egg cheese sausage and used sausage for pizza too.
So my mom is not impressed with the vendor. Says she’s still waiting on things she ordered in early December 🤷♀️ however, with that warning, this is the site and sweatshirt: lilicloth.com/products/in-a-world-where-you-can-be-anything-be-kind-hoodie-9786041
Hubby was funny.. spice yes plz.. I'm hispanic so we eat alot of cheap meals.. but I had a question as a parent what do u think with children being picky? I get ask this alot in my fb group page and it's not something I can answer cuz I told my kids from going young ages that u eat what u get and I make them try something are please 4 different ways before they say they don't like something. Which most the time get them to eat it some way or another.. Put I don't substitute nothing.. like if make beans and rice which they love and they won't eat the beans when them they will only eat the rice or vice versa normal not a big issue and may sound extreme to some but I want them to be open minded and greatful to all they have no matter that it may be!! So what ur advice cause I'm open to a different mind sets
I try my best to make them try everything! I only worry when something is really spicy. Lately we’ve been a lot better about sitting as a family and making them eat what we eat. It takes consistency but they are becoming more adventurous!
Two of I'd say my top five meals my family liked were recipes I started to make and somehow I didn't have the ingredients. Well, I've committed myself with the onions, beef, how do I fix this? Enter ketchup, little mustard, paprika, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce, some water, thicken with flour and water. Basically, what should have been authentic Hungarian goulash (the US stuff is not even close) turned into a bbq noodle dish. Lucky for me, now that they are older, they like the authentic stuff. If you have a good spice rack, you can change up anything.
I started a program that supplied a meat flavored spaghetti sauce and spaghetti to a friend that takes food vouchers to people in dire need through her church. This is in a food desert area. I was thinking if they really need food and they are in the food desert, having something to eat right away would help. It is so cheap and almost everyone eats it,

Do $50 for the week for a family! ✌
$50 for a week for a family! I prefer Aldi and Walmart because the sizes at dollar tree tend to be less of a deal than Walmart or Aldi
Yes! 😂
Yep I like that too. Sometimes it's not practical to hit up more than 1 store either so Wal-Mart for $50 would be great to see.
Would love to see a budget challenge at my most favorite store... Aldi! 💖

If you have a food processor or blender, you can sneak in some frozen veggies in your spaghetti sauce too. 😊
Yes, that’s a great idea!
Such an accent! Love it! Twist lift pinch pull. Lol
😂😂😂 that and when he says it’s not rocket science, but it ain’t easy either 🤣
Your husbands accent was a surprise! Love it!!
Haha!! He doesn’t always sound like that 😂😂
Boston at its finest!!!
Chili over rice is delicious
Yum!
The ibotta deals add to the amount out of pocket. Most people who need to take advantage of an extreme cannot do that.
I guess that’s true! Didn’t really think about it that way 🤷♀️ the only thing crucial with what I purchased was the muscle milk which could be exchanged for a small $1 milk. So it might be closer to $32 in total without the Ibotta deals.
@@MealsWithMaria So, this was not the $30.00 challemge you thought. You cheated...
@@Babsonthego4 oh my gosh. Don't watch if you don't like her content. You really can't please everyone 😒
@@Babsonthego4 so petty
Always use a pot to soak ya beans! They suckers plump up so big!
You could use the bean broth for making soup.
Yes! I normally use my Instant pot with no soaking, so I had no idea!!
Yes, prob not worth going to both
I want your hoodie love it
My mom gave it to me as a Christmas gift 🙏 I just asked her where she got it. I’ll post the link if I can ❤️
So my mom is not impressed with the vendor.
Well done! tfs ❄️☃️🏜️💗❄️☃️🏜️💗❄️☃️🏜️💗❄️☃️🏜️💗
You’re welcome!
I’m super impressed! I’ve been seeing a lot of these challenges lately. Maybe I’ll try one coming up. :)
🤗🤗 thank you! I noticed that too! Everyone is doing an awesome job! I bet you’ll nail it too! I’d love to see what you come up with!
100%! Improvising in the kitchen is what it’s all about!
❤️❤️
Knocked it out of the park! TFS 💖
😊 thank you! So glad you enjoyed!
I started a program that supplied a meat flavored spaghetti sauce and spaghetti to a friend that takes food vouchers to people in dire need through her church. This is in a food desert area. I was thinking if they really need food and they are in the food desert, having something to eat right away would help. It is so cheap and almost everyone eats it,
So wonderful! Thank you for doing that!
